I got this as a gift for Christmas and loved it!
It made it easier to do my makeup with the lights. The magnifying side of the mirror is great to pluck my eyebrows too. And for anyone who plucks their eyebrows, I'm sure they would appreciate anything that would make the pain a little easier!
The mirror itself plugs in and lights up on both sides. The cord is pretty long too which is handy if your dressing table isn't directly next to your outlet. I do think if there were an option for batteries too, that would be great so you could travel and move around with it a little more easily.
My biggest downside was the fact that the bulb in the mirror seemed to die really quickly and stop working. If I'm paying for a mirror that lights up, I'd like it to stay that way!
It's also a little bulky and that stops me taking it on holiday. It's such a good mirror that I'd love the option to pack it in my suitcase! The weight and size don't really make it an option unfortunately.
The other downside is that (when it did light up) it used to get hot really quickly. It used to get so hot it would make my face hot while I was getting ready. That's never good when you've put on a fresh layer of foundation and you start to get a little sweaty!
Now that it's broken, it's still a really good mirror that I use all the time but it's just that, a regular mirror, which is not what was paid for.
Overall I think it's a great product and I would recommend it but I'd also recommend keeping the receipt incase you run into the same technical difficulties. Learn from my mistakes!
I bought both my girls the Boots No7 Illuminated Make-up Mirror for Christmas last year and they have been in constant use ever since. They are currently on offer for £24.99 online (23/07/13) the regular price being noted as £49.99. I bought them when they were on offer before Christmas.
This illuminated make-up mirror has a light around the entire mirrors edge - giving 360 degrees of consistent and even lighting. The product description says the mirror is designed to eliminate shadows and glare. There are two mirrors - one on each side. One mirror is for normal viewing - one has 5x magnification. The mirror tilts as required for angled viewing. The 'normal' view mirror has the No 7 logo on it.
The product is metallic in colour, and stands approximately 35cm high. The mirrors are approximately 20cm across. It stands on a sturdy pedestal base on which there is an on/off switch. The product is mains operated. The cable is 156 cm approx.
Experience with the product:
The product is aesthetically pleasing and adds a welcome touch of chic to the makeup table. The light does what Boots claim it does - gives an even illumination which gets rid of shadows and doesn't create glare when you are putting your make-up on. The choice of two mirrors is helpful. The normal view gives a good overall view of your face. The close up view the second mirror gives you, helps when doing more detailed and careful applications. I find it a boon when putting on mascara and eye-liner - especially as I am a little short sighted. The tilting aspect of the mirror is good for giving different angled views and the tilt stays put whilst you are doing this.
Personally, I am not fond of the No7 logo being so prominently placed on the mirror but after a while you stop noticing it. The chief downside to this product is that it is mains only. It would be nice if it were a little more portable around the house - but plug points dictate on this item, I'm afraid. The length of the cable also dictates where it is placed unless you use an extension.
Overall, however, I am very pleased with this product. It adds a special touch to the daily chore of putting make-up on. It is good-looking, robust and useful. I would not, however, pay the full £49.99 price of this item. This seems too much. In my opinion, £24.99 is a fairer price. (online price noted)
I am giving it 4 dooyoo stars - it loses one for the high 'usual' price. Would recommend you snap this up when it's on offer. It is a good quality product to either keep or give as a gift.
I got this No7 Illuminated Makeup Mirror this Christmas. It was rather expensive but I think it has been on offer from December so it was definitely a bargain.
Packaging - The mirror came in a large, purple and clear cardboard box with efficient protection to hold the mirror stable whilst inside.
Look - The mirror is metallic silver which is very shiny, a white fairly long cable leading to the plug, a swivelling axis to flip the mirror round to normal or 5x zoom. It has a black button on the base which turns on the circular band around the edge of the actual mirror. 'No7' is visible on the actual mirror. It has a thick base and the swivel mirror is very thick too so the whole thing is really sturdy and stable.
Use - It is fairly easy to turn the mirror round but stiff at the same time so it won't swing back, it'll stay in place. The lights aren't too bright to look at closely but light enough to show every imperfection you'd ever wanna see! The zoom mirror is brilliant, especially for tweezing eyebrows, (you can see every hair and tweeze every hair individually) & removing and applying make up - before I used this mirror for make up I must of gone out unknowingly with make up streaks etc, and now this light allows me to see every detail. Also you can easily make sure that you have every scrap of make up removed at night.
If you have dark lighting in your room or can't use the light then you really need a mirror like this. Because of the light, there is no shadows blocking your light.
Overall - Good lighting, clear mirrors and easy to use, and sturdy. I would of liked the mirror ace to be bigger as its only enough for your face, so you do have to lean in a bit to see properly. Not sure how long the bulbs last as I've only had it for about a month. Also I don't think it's worth £50, but the half price offer is really acceptable for this handy mirror.
I received a few Boots vouchers for my birthday 2 years ago and knew exactly what I was going to spend it on-a mirror that was actually big enough to be able to do my hair and makeup without squinting into a compact mirror as I had been doing for months since my old mirror was chucked out after moving bedrooms!
The mirror I chose was the No7 illuminated make-up mirror. The mirror stands at about 40-50cm so it is quite a big mirror but it looks great on my dressing table. It has a solid, silver stand which has a silver pole attached in the middle and then there is the mirror attached to the top on a matching silver axel.
The mirror has a 'normal' side which is just like your average mirror and then you can turn the mirror around to a more magnified, intense mirror which is perfect for doing eyeliner!
The mirror also has lights running around the outside of the mirror, they are no good during the day as they are barely visible but at night the light illuminates the mirror and surrounding space well and reminds me of an old fashioned dressing table: the ones with the lights all around the big mirrors.
There is a mains plug attached to the mirror which is used for powering the lights and the power cord is around 1m long which means that you don't have to be too close to a plug in order to take advantage of the light function ability. On the base of the mirror you will also find an on/off switch which is also used to control the lights.
I don't tend to use the light as my plug socket are usually taken up by hair straighteners and Ipod chargers etc but I find the mirror very attractive to look it and very much fit for purpose. The fact that there are 2 mirrors in 1 is very handy indeed.
A down side to owning this mirror is that it is not compact so you cannot take it anywhere with you unless you buy it its own suitcase! But, as I said, it looks great on dressing tables as you can tilt the mirror on the axel if you are sitting or standing to get the best view.
I would definitely recommend this product for anyone who needs a mirror for their dressing table, especially if you need a mirror that magnifies as this is great for eye makeup and highlighting any imperfections you may otherwise have missed.
I paid around £25 for this mirror using my vouchers. I think this is very reasonable given that it incorporates 2 different mirrors which achieves 2 different effects. Long length mirrors can retail for in excess of £100 so for a quarter of that price I think I got myself a great product that will last, well.. forever!
I have wanted this this No7 Illuminated make up mirror for several months now after it was recommended to me by a mate, but the £49.99 price tag put me right off!! Thats why i was very happy on christmas day when i unwrapped this mirror as a gift from my mom. Heres what i think of it so far...
The mirror is a par of the No7 cosmetics range which is exclusive to Boots ,those of you who have read my other reveiws will know i am a huge fan of this skin care range, and this mirror is no exception. Like many people i struggle to find the right lighting when applying make up especially during the winter when there is very little natural light in the mornings and applying make up with just the big light in your room just isn't the same. Whilst i may think i look gorgeous in my bedroom mirror as soon as i leave the house and catch a reflection of myself i realise i actually look like a clown!!!! NOT the look i go for!!! Buit thaks to this mirror i no longer have that trouble :)
The mirror itself is round with a silver stand, the round mirror spins around so you have the option of a regular mirror or 5 x magnification. The mirror is mains operated so theres no need for batteries and when its plugged in and switched on there is 360 degree lighting all around the outside of the mirror to help eliminate shadows and glare.
I have used the mirror every day since i received it and it is brilliant! It is definitley ALOT easier to apply makeup evenly and you can definitley see what you are doing alot better. The 5x maginification side has also been perfect for plucking my eyebrows as it really would be impossible to miss any so my eyebrows are now looking better than ever!
As i mentioned the mirror is exlcusive to Boots and has an RRP price of £49.99, but it is currently reduced to £20 which i think is a bargain as it is worth every penny. I would definitley reccomend!
X Thanks For Reading :D X
I received the No7 Illuminated Make-up Mirror as a Christmas present the Christmas before last. This was a present I requested from my boyfriend who was struggling for ideas. There were a few reasons why I wanted and needed an illuminated mirror. Firstly, I have quite a poorly lit bedroom. Secondly, I do already have a large wall-mounted mirror but wanted a mirror that I could use sat down enabling me easy access to my make-up products which I thought could be time saving.
I looked into the different types of illuminated mirrors that were available at the time and really liked the design of the No7 Illuminated Make-up Mirror. The mirror is a very attractive design made of chrome. The No7 Illuminated Make-up Mirror has two mirrors, one of which is a normal mirror and the other has a 5x magnification. You can swivel the mirror to use either side. The outer edge of both mirrors illuminates. The particular design feature that I really liked that made this mirror appeal more than any other was that the mirror was on a stand. It has worked out that the mirror is at exactly the right level for me when I sit down to use it.
I predominantly use the normal mirror on the No7 Illuminated Make-up Mirror. I use it for all manner of skin care and beauty routines. This ranges from applying make-up and make-up removal, applying face masks to moisturising. I also find the mirror very useful when I am styling my hair. I do generally use my larger wall-mounted mirror when I am styling my hair but the No7 Illuminated Make-up Mirror is great to use to style my fringe.
Although I didn't necessarily want this mirror because it has a 5x magnification mirror, it has been a really useful tool. The magnified mirror is fantastic for using when plucking your eyebrows and I certainly have better looking brows since I got this product. I also find it useful when applying eyeliner particularly liquid liner. The only criticism I have of the mirror is that when using the magnified mirror you can get hot in the face when the mirror is illuminated. You need to be careful! I have also noticed that there is a warning sticker on the mirror that warns of the danger of fire if placed in direct sunlight. I had never thought of that risk but I am careful to never leave the mirror switched on or even plugged in.
This mirror obviously needs to be plugged in to illuminate. The wire is long enough for access to a plug in my room but might be a little short for some people. I have had this mirror for quite some time now and the bulbs have managed to last but having read the instructions it seems quite easy to replace the bulbs. Replacement bulbs are not supplied.
This product was purchased from Boots which seems to be the only place it is available. Another advantage of the No7 Illuminated Make-up Mirror is its price. It was on special offer when my boyfriend bought it reduced from £49.99 to £24.99. I think that considering the attractive design and the amount I use this mirror that was a very reasonable price. I do wonder whether this mirror is actually worth £49.99 as it does always seem to be on offer.
I would recommend this mirror to all women - It is fantastic!!
I'm one of the many people who got this when it was half price at £24.99 instead of £49.99 - I got it on my birthday last november so I've had it quite a while now.
The mirror comes in a box with a clear part on the lid so you can see it, it also had packaging to keep it in place. The box is white on the front and the sides go from purple to green, so not unattractive. It also comes with a small leaflet with the usual safety information etc.
I still kepe it in the box (minus the cardboard packaging inside) as I don't have room for it to be up constantly unfortunately - after a few months the box sides showed some wear and tear so it's not got clear packing tape around to keep it together, but this is with bring shunted around almost daily.
The product itself:
As shown on the picture, the stand is a nice basic silver one, it's clean and neat, the on/off switch is on the base and so easy to get to always, it plugs in with the wire running from the base (the opposite side to the switch so it's not wrapped around in front of you). The mirrors are a standard mirror and a 5x magnification. The light is a halo light all around each side, helping to prevent shadows etc when applying makeup.
The construction is generally sturdy, feels lovely and solid. the bulb is replaceable if needed (it says "the bulb used is a 15W type E14 240V, if anyone was wondering).
The standard mirror I use when applying most of my makeup, or further away for doing my hair and such (it's not enormous after all), general everyday things - it does the job well. The illumination isn't the brightest ever but it's bright enough you can see what you're doing, and isn't so bright as to hide blemishes you may want to conceal.
The 5x mirror I tend to use when plucking (would also be useful for waxing or bleaching I imagine), or sometimes when wanting to conceal blemishes and spots, it just makes it easier to see what you're doing. Any delicate work it's invaluable for.
I've had it now as said since last November, about 9 1/2 months to date, and the bulb is still working, in fact it's all still as new bar perhaps needing a quick clean. This has over those months had use between around 2 and 7 days a week, I'd guess averaging at around 5, often for quite long periods of time, so I'm pleased with how it's staying.
I suppose the ultimate question with a product of this value - is it worth it?
Well if I broke mine or something I'd not hesitate to hand over the full £49.99 for another one. It really is a fantastic item and I can't actually find any bad things surrounding it. Obviously if it's not a rush purchase you could wait and hope thye have it half price again - even now they're doing 10 points at boots for every 1 spent so you'd get £5 back on your advantage card.
Well worth it and it gets 5* as I can't find anything bad!
Was looking for a handy but decent sized mirror and found the No7 Illuminated Make-Up Mirror in a larger Boots store. It was placed with the electrical items in store, set amongst the other No7 electrical products.
On the day when I first saw the mirror it was priced at a hefty and jaw dropping £49.99. I thought that was way too much for a cosmetic mirror so left it where it was.
However when I went to look at the mirror the following week it was reduced to half price at £24.99 which was a much better deal. There were also £5 off vouchers for any No7 item and although it stated that electrical items were excluded, the voucher went through ok, leaving £19.99 to pay.
Since then I have noticed that the mirror is on and off on a half price off deal in store, so if you do think that you want to get one of these, make sure you wait till its reduced.
Its a nice sized mirror which comes attractively packed and so would make a nice gift for some one. The fact that its also illuminated is a real bonus as it means you can see much more clearly. Boots say that the make up mirror has been designed by them to eliminate shadows falling on on the face and also reduce glare and it does just what they say.
The range of manification offered by the mirror ranges from normal to plus 5 times magnification. This means its great for doing those tidy up jobs like eye brow shaping (ouch!) as you can really see close up and personal what you need to get to grips with. However at 5 times magnification, you do need to be prepared to see that warts and all natural look.
The mirror does also benefit from being illuminated, with its optional all round lighting, at a flick of a switch. It has a handy mains powered plug that comes with it. Its quite modern looking too and comes finished in a smart silvery finish.
In summary the mirror is a handy size, illuminates well and is a really helpful and useful thing to have. Just make sure that you buy when its reduced, so that you can save a few pennies along the way.
This is a mirror from Boots' own brand No.7. No.7 offer a wide range of skincare, make-up and various other cosmetics, so I was very surprised to be walking down the aisles of Boots to stumble across this mirror. I've always needed a mirror to use when applying my make-up in the morning as my current one is just too small and fiddly to be using.
The cost of this is retailed at £49.99 which I feel is fairly expensive, however since December it has been on a half price offer at only £24.99 which is very reasonable and is why I picked myself one up, because had it of been £49.99 I wouldn't have looked twice at it.
The mirror comes very well packaged and is easy to set up. The mirror itself is plain silver as shown in the image. It has an illuminating light around both sides of the mirror which gives off a bfairly bright light. You can turn over the mirror to the other side really easily and it isn't in any way awkward to manuovere unlike others I've had in the past.
The thing that I loved most about this mirror is that one side is a standard mirror which is like any other, however the other side is a 5x zoom. This is excellent for when applying your makeup and needing precision to do so. I find it great when applying mascara and any other make-up to the eyes as it can often be quite a wobbly task when you can't clearly see yourself. Another reason the 5x zoom comes in so handy for me is because it makes plucking your eyebrows a lot easier! It gives a perfect view of all the stray hairs that you normally can't see and means you can achieve the best results possible.
The illuminating light also adds to the effect and helps you to see more clearly. Unfortunately the light isn't a bright white like you would see in makeup studios, however it is bright enough to see what you are doing efficiently. The mirror simply has to be plugged into a socket for the light to be used, and can be switched on and off with one click of a button which is located at the base of the mirror as you can see in the picture. I have noticed that once the light has been left on a while, it can start to get a little hot so watch out for this!!
The product itself is also fairly heavy for just a mirror. This is great as it means it can stand alone well without falling over, however just make sure it doesn't fall anywhere near you.
I certainly don't think this product has any downfalls, the only thing I wasn't too happy about was that when you use the 5x zoom side of the mirror, you really have to move in close for it to focus on you. This can be quite difficult if you are seated a considerable distance away from the mirror.
All in all I am pleasantly surprised with how well this mirror works, and I am definately pleased with the results. It is a complete bargain at £24.99 and would recommend it to anyone. Don't forget to use your Advantage Card if you have one of Boots' loyalty cards if you purchase this because you get around 100 points (£1)! Thanks for reading the review!
This mirror was recently reduced to half price in Boots (as part of a half price sale on Number 7 electricals) and because I spent over £22 on No7 products I got a free clutch bag with some No7 products in it. All in all it seemed like an offer I just couldn't resist.
I was attracted to the mirror as it was illuminated and to me that just made it look classy when it is all lit up on your dressing table. The mirror is quite big, so I wouldnt recommend it if you are short for space. It has a silver coloured stick on top of which is a round mirror, again encased by silver. The mirror can rotate on the stick, as it is double sided. I did have a rotating mirror before that never seemed stable, it seemed to always want to move or swivel, but luckily when you turn this one it stays where it is.
On One side the mirror is normal and on the other it is magnified, approximately five times. This is only necessary if you want a really close up look at yourself, to be honest I dont use this side of it.
The mirror itself is very clear to look in and allows acurate application of make up that isnt biased by the amoutn of light you can see to put it on, which of course is great, and for me this was the most useful thing about the mirror, as you could carry it around the room until you found your ideal spot then it would prop itself up while you applied your make up.
I really like using this mirror. I wouldnt pay full price for it, but at half price it is well worth it and I will get a lot of use out of it, and I have just checked the boots website and as I type it is still half price.
The Boots No7 Illuminated Make-Up Mirror is a recent addition to our household. My daughter had been looking around for a new mirror to use when doing her hair and make-up. She does prefer to apply make-up using natural light, but was fed up of trying to find a decent amount of light in which to apply make-up, especially in the winter months when there is not a lot of natural light in the house on dark days and evenings.
It was because of this, she opted for a mirror which illuminates, as lamps and ceiling lights in the house often cast shadows.
After she bought this No7 Illuminated Mirror, I was keen to try it out and have been using it regularly since.
About the Boots No7 Illuminated Make-Up Mirror :-
The mirror comes well packed in an attractive box and of course can only be purchased in Boots.
It is quite attractive to look at and consists of an illuminated plain mirror, which swivels over to reveal an illuminated 5 x magnifying mirror on the other side.
It is an ideal height to sit nicely on a solid surface such as a dressing table or chest of drawers (as long as it is within easy reach of a socket, as you need to plug it in!), the mirror and stand is chrome, with an on/off switch on the front of the base.
When switched on, the complete rim of the mirror illuminates. You will need to buy replacement bulbs for the mirror which are available in supermarkets as well as lighting stores, so they are easy to get hold of and not expensive to replace.
Full instructions are provided on how to change the bulb. It seems pretty straightforward using a crosshead screwdriver to unscrew two small screws either side of the mirror, then simply remove and replace the bulb inside and screw back into place.
An important thing to remember is you must take care not to use this mirror or place it anywhere in direct sunlight, because of the magnifying effect on one side of the mirror. Leaving it in direct sunlight poses a fire risk.
Using the mirror :-
I have read the handful of reviews available of this mirror on the Boots website and it seems to get a mixed reaction, with some people loving it and others saying the mirror does not illuminate enough for their needs.
Both myself and my daughter find that the amount of illumination it provides is perfectly adequate for our needs, so we don't have any problem with that.
Applying make-up, creams and moisturisers is easier, as it does not cast any shadows, enabling you to apply your make-up evenly and achieve the right amount of coverage.
I think personally I would have liked the mirror to have been a little bigger, but having said that, I have no problems using it and can see what I am doing, so that is just a personal niggle which does not interfere with the suitablility of the mirror for your facial needs.
I think it is because I am used to using a larger mirror where I can see to do my hair also. This mirror is intended just for your face only.
Flipping it over to the 5 x magnifying mirror was scary - I can't say I liked what I saw! To be honest, the 'normal' mirror is perfect for my needs and also my daughter's, so neither of us will probably use the magnifying mirror. If you do like to use one however, it is very powerful.
It is ideal to have in your bedroom. Of course it cannot be used in the bathroom as it is electrical.
The price of the mirror is £49.99, but it is available at half the price at the moment and you can buy it for £24.99, as Boots have a half price offer available on No7 electrical items.
I really do not think it is worth paying fifty pounds for this mirror in my opinion, but it is worth paying half price for. Fifty pounds for a make-up mirror seems a lot to me, but others may disagree of course.
Overall this is a good mirror, attractive and perfect for using for your skincare routines. The illumination is fine in my opinion and it is a bargain at half-price at the moment. It would also make an ideal gift.
