Why did I buy the sponge?
I have heard many good things about putting on make up using a cosmetic sponge. Apparently if you are using a sponge then no grease or dirt etc from your fingers can get into your pores. I'm not entirely sure how this would work out, though. I mean you're putting grease into your pores already as you're putting on foundation, and the sponge will surely pick up as much grease as your fingers. But as I am suffering from acne at the moment and hate going without foundation I thought I might as well give this a try. Even if it didn't work I could still write a review about it, so all would not be lost.
How much was the sponge?
I bought this from Boots, and it cost me £2.50. There were no offers or deals on this particular product at the time of buying, unfortunately. For just one sponge you might think this seems expensive, as I did at first. But this promises good lasting quality which I was willing to pay extra for.
Was the sponge worth buying?
I'm glad I bought this, because I do sometimes prefer using this sponge to using my fingers when it comes to applying foundation. I find this works well when applying both mousse and liquid foundations, but isn't very good for applying mineral or any kind of powdery foundations. This is only really suitable for applying foundation by the way, and not blusher or any other kind of make up.
You probably should wash this to stop it getting dirty. If you leave this for too long without giving it a gentle wash the foundation does dry up on it which then makes it harder to use the next time you want to apply foundation with it. But you do have to be gentle when washing this. It can ruin the quality of it a little bit if you scrub at it too hard.
Would I recommend this sponge?
Overall I would recommend this. I think it is a good quality sponge. The only disadvantage really is quite cynical of me, but I have to say you don't really NEED this to put make up on. You're not missing out on anything if you don't buy this. If you want one then fair enough, this is a good one and I recommend it to you. But if you're not that bothered then I wouldn't advise you to waste your money on it. And this hasn't made much difference to my slight acne problem, and it is a bit more costly than some other make up sponges on the market.
Boots Premium Soft Cosmetic Sponge - Latex Free
What are they?
Cosmetic sponge from Boots.
These large sponges are latex free made from polyeurethane foam and is ideally used for applying and blending cream or liquid foundation.
What do I think?
I think these are great, I actually don't use these for blending foundation, but rather use it to apply compact powder to my face. This sponges are fairly huge so there is a lot of room for holding and manipulating the sponge at various flexible angles. The material is very soft to the touch and strangely stays very cool and somehow seemingly moist. I really like the fact that the material retains some kind of moisture so that when you are applying the make-up onto the face, the effect isn't too dry and matt looking. I also find that the soft sponge combined with the slight moisture also prevents 'dragging' when you're trying to blend in the powder or cream therefore prevents the possibility of sagging skin or wrinkles at a later date(!).
In each pack there is only one sponge, as mentioned already, it's huge and very flexible to use, I find that I get several uses out of the one sponge, using different areas of the sponge for different purposes, however, I do recommend washing it out thoroughly after each make-up session. The sponge also happens to bb latex free, touch wood, I don't really have a latex allergy, but I have quite sensitive skin anyway, and so far I haven't really had any problems using this sponge, except for when I haven't cleaned and washed it out properly before the next use, in which case, I break out in big spots and boils!
This is a very good quality sponge but at a price - £2.50, which is a bit high really for just one bit of sponge. Mine has lasts several months so far, but still, sponge should be this expensive (!) well, that's just me anyway....
A good quality sponge, very flexible and convenient to use. No probs!
Thanks for reading.
