Good quality tissues coated with a 'Protective Balm' from Boots...

I have had a bit of a cough and a sniffle recently, so headed off to my local branch of Boots to stock up on some vitamins and cough remedies. I decided to purchase some paper tissues for myself too, as my nose was running and I was sneezing quite a lot. When I feel a cold or flu coming on, I do prefer to purchase tissues with some sort of 'Balm' contained within them, as I find they are generally much softer, and so are kinder to the often inflamed skin and tender nasal area during these times. The tissues that I purchased on this occasion were a Boots own-branded product, namely the "Boots Ultra Balm Tissues" which cost me £1.99 for each of the regular-sized boxes. I also purchased a 'pocket pack' of these particular tissues too, to take out and about with me, with their petite size being ideal to pop into a handbag or packet. The boxed Boots Ultra Balm Tissues is the item I am reviewing here, and I was able to purchase two boxes of these tissues for the sum of £3, as part of a promotional offer available in store at the time of purchase (as @ May 2013). I thought this price reflected really good value for money as the usual price is £1.99 per box. The packaging is fairly simplistic, I have to admit, comprising of an oblong-shaped box that is made of thin cardboard. There is something of a little eye-catching detail to be found, I suppose, by way of the blue and yellow colourings used on the outside, but I couldn't say it was the most attractive item I have ever encountered. It is more than fit for purpose, nevertheless, providing a sturdy enclosure for its paper contents. I like too that the cardboard box can be recycled after use. To 'open' the box, I simply had to remove the perforated section on top, which was easy for me to do by myself, without help, even though I suffer with the strength in my hands at times. Removing this section revealed an oval-shaped 'gap' in the top of the box which allowed me to pull the tissues out one at a time, when required. I do think the tissues were packed quite neatly into the box as I don't recall ever having issues with a bunch or handful of tissues coming out when I pulled on the top one. This might sound like a minor point but it is something I have encountered with other tissues that I have purchased before, and I have found that it causes some tissues to be wasted. I was pleased that the Boots Ultra Balm Tissues posed no such issue. The tissues themselves are white and rather plain-looking, but more than fit for purpose, I have found. They are a slightly oblong shape, being slightly less 'square' than other tissues I have purchased recently. This is an observation on my part, rather than being a criticism, and I have no issue with the shape or size of the Boots Ultra Balm Tissues. They are less 'stingy' in their size than some brands I have used before, without being so large that they feel cumbersome or fiddly to use. Their length is approximately 25cm or so, and I find this is more than ample for my own requirements. The Boots Ultra Balm Tissues are 3 ply which makes them feel slightly better quality than the previous items I was using, which were only 2 ply. These were considerably thinner than the Boots tissues, which of course is pretty useless when dealing with a running nose or head cold. I was happy that the Boots Ultra Balm Tissues seemed more than capable of dealing with my runny nose (!) than my previous brand, and I have never encountered any issues with the Boots Tissues disintegrating or coming apart during use. The quality is pretty good, in my view, with the tissues coping very well with my running nose and sneezes. The paper used in the Boots tissues appears to be of a good quality too, and certainly it is soft to the touch. This is a vital point to note, I think, particularly for those times when I am suffering from a running nose or head cold, during which it is often the case that the nose and surrounding sensitive nasal area will feel - and look - quite sore and inflamed. I felt that the use of the Boots Ultra Balm tissues at the area didn't cause any further irritation or inflammation, with the paper and 'Balm' effect both providing a little TLC to the sore, tender area instead. This result in itself is probably enough to warrant a repurchase of the Boots Tissues during my next head cold or bout of hay fever. There is no scent present during the use of the Boots Ultra Tissues, even though I am informed that they are "Coated with a protective Balm." This Balm effect is, I think, purely evident through the tissues texture and, again, the fact that they provide a little TLC to inflamed skin and noses. I have used 'Balm-infused' tissues before and found they carried a scent of some description which was not particularly to my liking, particularly when my nose felt so sore and 'fragile' during a bad cold. I much prefer the fragrance free Boots Ultra Balm Tissues, with another definite plus point being evident from this result. Taking everything into account, I don't have any negative experiences to share regarding the use of the Boots Ultra Balm Tissues, and would have no hesitation in repurchasing them again in the future, particularly during a nasty head cold or bout of troublesome hay fever. I have found that they coped very well with my requirements, particularly for the good value price paid, and therefore feel an award of top marks in the Dooyoo product rating score is appropriate, on this occasion.

        Really good tissues from Boots

I seem to have suffered more this winter from colds than I normally do. It seemed like not a few weeks had passed before I had another one. I think good tissues are essential when you have got a cold and runny nose. Yeah I suppose I could just use toilet paper but this ends up making my nose all sore and red and is a bit too scratchy for me. I picked up some Ultra Balm Tissues when I was in boots stocking up on medicine. They are from Boots own brand and were on offer hence why I bought these over some others. I would definitely think about buying them again however as I thought they offered really good value for money compared to some of the other more expensive brands. They cost £1.99 for a bog box of tissues but with the offer I got two boxes for £3. As I had been paying £2 for a pack of three small pocket sized tissues I thought these would work out cheaper as the box certainly had more in them than what you get with the small pocket size packs. The tissues are enriched with a protective balm which is supposed to stop the skin around your nose from drying out and going red and sore. You can't actually feel the balm as they aren't wet or anything but they do have a slight silky feel to them when you touch them. They are really soft and even in compared to expensive toilet paper there is no comparison in the softness as these feel so much nicer when using them and they make a huge difference when it comes to blowing your nose and stopping it from drying out and getting sore on the outside from rubbing it with tissues. They are also 3 ply so are really nice and thick. I have used cheaper tissues where they have broken apart when I have blown my nose because they are so thin but I never had that problem with these ones as they are so much thicker and just that little bit more luxurious. I really cannot fault these tissues as they made a big difference to the skin around my nose. Often when I have the cold and I have blowing my nose a lot the skin goes red and sore and even when the cold has healed the skin can still look and feel sore for days afterwards. This is just from the friction of the tissue paper on my skin but it doesn't look very good. I can honestly say that these didn't do that to my skin and once my nose had stopped running the skin looked back to normal straight away. I will definitely be buying these again as it worked out cheaper for me as the box lasted such a long time and I really liked how they felt against my skin and when you are ill with a runny nose you want something that isn't going to end up wet and breaking to pieces and these tissues did that for me.

Great quality balm tissues that work!

Boots Ultra-Balm tissues Due to the flu season taking hold & with me having colds ever since November after my flujab (side effects taking hold definately) I've gone through a few boxes of tissues. I've tried Kleenex (normal, mansize & those little cube boxes), little rubbish pocket packs that were 3-ply but kept on breaking at 1st use (cheap brand), Tesco Value ones & kitchen & toilet roll! The reason I'm reviewing these is because all of the above have made my nose so sore & red! You know what it's like! You look like Rudolph & all of the skin has dried up & cracked! Then it's so sore even the softest tissue acts like sandpaper! Anywho, nipping into Boots today, I thought I would see what tissues were on offer. They had a vast array of Kleenex, including Balsam & Supersoft. I thought I would get the Balsam ones, until I saw these Boots Ultra-Balm ones on offer... Price & Appearance: Kleenex were priced at £1.39 on offer, but these worked out better value, at £1.95 a box, but all Boots tissues 2 boxes for £2. So I got Ultra-Balm & Mansize. The box of Boots Ultra-Balm tissues, is quite colourful, with green, yellow, blue & purple inserts with the FSC logo on the side. The name of the tissues is on the opening. The information on the tissues can be found on the bottom of the packet. The tissues themselves are the normal tissue colour, white. No patterns on them nothing. I was'nt expecting them to really. They all get thrown in the bin at the end of the day. Do they Work?: Quite francally, yes, they do work. The balm in them soothes my nose & helps prevent dryness & stops my skin from cracking. As all tissue boxes have, this one has the oval-shaped opening in which the tissues can be found. With most cheap tissues, the opening only allows one tissue out, with the other not being pulled ready for the next use. I was worried about this, especially as I sneeze a lot & need to very quickly grab a tissue, & end up pulling out 4 at a time! Even though this box has the big opening hole, the tissues do follow on from eachother & are able to be grabbed easily! Summary: Do I recommend them? Yes, I do :) because they work and the balm soothes your nozzel from the harshness of flu! These tissues in my opinion work better & are cheaper than the likes of Kleenex. They are cheaper too! I will continue to buy as long as they are on offer for!

          A good tissue

I tend to buy my tissues from boots as they seem to often have a two boxes for two pounds promotion running on their tissues and considering that their own branded tissues are often £1.90 per box it makes a very good deal. We don't seem to go through many tissues at home so a box can last us a long time but I do usually buy two at a time. When I buy tissues I always look out for those which claim to be super soft or contain a balm and will buy those over the standard tissues. I currently have two types of boots tissues on the go at home, one is the ultra soft brand and the other is the ultra balm tissue which I am reviewing today. The tissues come in an average sized rectangular cardboard tissue box. The box is predominantly blue and is made from a minimum of 75% recycled fibres which is nice to know. The box contains approximately 90 tissues which I think is about average for this type of product. The box, like most other tissue boxes, has an oval shaped section which is perforated for easy removal. When you do this you have access to the actual tissues. I find that when you pull out a tissue just one comes out of the box which is great as it really annoys me when you need a tissue and all of a sudden you end up with about four in your hand all clumped together! The tissues themselves are an average sized square. The size is fine for us as a family and I much prefer the tissues to be this size than those huge man sized tissues which are big enough to cover my head! The tissues are just plain white, there are no frills but again I like them this way. The tissues are three ply and as such they do feel lovely and soft to the touch. I can't say that you can notice the balm but I am sure this adds to the softness of the tissues. When it comes to blowing your nose I find that these tissues do live up to their ultra balm name and they do not hurt the nose in any way. I also find that these tissues are quite strong, despite being so soft and so I can also use one of these slightly wet to clean my sons face if he has a little chocolate or something on there. They come in handy when I don't have a wet wipe to hand! In my experience these boots ultra balm tissues are as good as the Kleenex brand and of course they are much cheaper....you can get two boxes of boots for the price of one Kleenex! As the tissues are made by boots you can only purchase them in a boots store or on the boots website and as I already mentioned one box is £1.90 or you can get two for £2.00 which seems to be a promotion which is often running. I give these tissues a full five stars and a recommendation! Thank you for reading my review!
