Advantages: Smells YUMMY, natural nourishing ingredients, reasonable price considering how long a tin lasts

Disadvantages: Makes me sniff my fingers in public!

Cuticles are one of those things that I just don't really think about. I mean, in an ideal situation we shouldn't really see too much of them anyway and I, like I hope most of you, have much better things to worry about than skin on our nails. So I'm not entirely sure what possessed me to add a tin of Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream to the cart during my last Amazon shop.

Okay so one deciding factor was the brand, Burt's Bees. Although I will admit that I don't have one product of theirs in particular that I'm totally go-shout-it-on-the-street in love with, I still always feel somehow compelled to try out more.

At the time the price was a mere £2-odd, which is less than half price so what a good time to try it out! I expected a much smaller tin for that price, but 17g is really a lot, and its waxy balm texture means that even with daily use this will last a really long time. The tin is stylish and small enough to slip into a pocket or bag, but I'm not sure why a lemon product has a picture of a lime on the front!

So, cuticle cream...what is it? I already told you my feelings towards cuticles or lack thereof. However I do like my nails. Not in an "Oh my God I broke a nail!!" kind of way, but they naturally grow quite long. Eventually, this leads to the inevitable split down the side, and I was hoping that I might be able to make them a bit stronger.

Burt's Bees claim the cream will "nourish and moisturise nails and cuticles" as well as making them smell great. Let's talk about the smell....WOW is all I can say. It is the strongest, freshest lemon scent I have ever come across without venturing into cleaning product territory. It reminds me of Lush's "Lemslip" buttercream. I will admit to getting this product out just to smell it every now and again!

To use, I rub my finger onto the cream once for each nail and push the cuticle up before smoothing the remainder over the nail itself. My nails do smell yummy afterwards, but only for a few minutes. They also feel mildly greasy, but again only for a few minutes until the product sinks in.

I have been using this product intermittently for about three weeks and I've noticed some slight results. I definitely think if I built it more into a daily routine I would notice more. My nails have always been pretty strong, so it's hard to judge if this helps. It only claims to nourish and moisturise, not actually strengthen, and how do you measure health of nails other than whether they're breaking or not? I think my nails feel about the same if I'm honest, but my cuticles do look less pronounced and don't creep down the nailbed so much.

So the big question...is this product worth it? Well, I'm happy I bought one while the price was down a bit, and I definitely wont need to repurchase for quite some time. If I do. For me it's not a completely necessary product, my nails are okay to begin with and I'm not constantly damaging them or my hands with nail varnish or, God forbid, washing up bowls! And I couldn't care LESS about the appearance of my cuticles, if I'm totally honest.

However if you have weak nails and are trying everything to help them, you could do far worse than try this. I'd also recommend if you enjoy lemon scents so you can sit there sniffing the tin like an idiot as I do!

You can pick this up at Amazon, and anywhere on or offline selling Burt's Bees, including larger Boots stores, for around a fiver.

Summary: A nail nourisher that smells good enough to eat...but don't. (I licked it and it was bad).
