You only have to click onto the Cath Kidston website to see what they specialise in-girly bits and bobs in floral patterns to rival kitsch products.
Around 8 months ago I purchased a makeup brush set from Cath Kidston purely because it looks so cute and I was going on holiday and this looked perfect from the website product description.
The brushes come in a wipe-clean pouch which wraps around the brushes to keep them together, safe a secure. I have a tendency of losing makeup brushes, especially the small eye shadow applicators so this pouch is really hands.
It is about 10cm long and perfectly fits the makeup brushes in but is still compact enough to fit in makeup bags. The pouch has 7 floral, slim pockets which house the makeup brushes perfectly and stops them from falling out. It also has a zip compartment which you can keep other brushes in or other flat items you may need to store.
The pouch itself is in the Cath Kidston-esque design which is blue and floral it looks so cute and girly which is what originally drew me to this item. Matching items such as bags and umbrellas are also available in this print. I find the Catch Kidston items are perfect for gifts.
The pouch comes complete with seven makeup brushes all of different shapes, sizes and designed for specific purposes. The biggest brush is designed for applying blusher. It is a very reasonable size to cover a big surface area and the bristles are just the right rigidity-not too soft but not too hard either. There is also a brush with a flat edge, I have never used this brush as I wasn't initially sure what it is used for but I think it is for your eyebrows! There are 3 eye shadow applicators: 2 are thin brushes and the other is a soft foam applicator. I usually use all of the brushes as the brushes are great for blending and the foam brush is a good initial applicator. The other brush in the collection is a double ended eyebrow and eyelash brush which can be used to remove clumps of mascara and fix your eyebrows neatly.
At £22 from the official Cath Kidston website I'd say this is average value, a great treat and perfect for taking on holiday. Even if you don't like the brushes you can always use the pouch for other makeup brushes.
I do not think I would of picked up this brush set from the shop myself because I already own many make-up brushes at home but I received it as a gift some time ago and over time has proven to be quite handy.
The set is about 10 inches tall and can be wrapped diagonally to become thin & easily portable. This set contains 2 useful parts: one is the brushes that comes with it and second is the storage wrap.
Due to it's compact and tidy nature I like to take this set while I am away over the weekend with me.
There are 7 brushes in it that can be usefully used to apply a full face of make-up:
- the large powder brush is perfect to apply my finishing powder
- the blush brush makes a really useful tool that I can easily use for a few extra purposes: I use it easily to contour my face, apply bronzer or blush
- there are 3 brushes designed for applying eye shadow, each one of them has the potential in being used as a cancealer brush depending on the area I wish to cover.
- the straight line brush is perfect in using to draw in my eyebrows with dark eye shadow or to be used with a cake mascara to apply eyeliner.
- and my favourite is double braw and lash com which I use to separate mascara or even to apply cake mascara on the lashes.
All the brushes have white handles, very neat, minimalist and well presented. A couple of the eye shadow brushes do not have white bristles ,and to be hones I am a bit disappointed about that because, I prefer white bristles on my make-up brushes so I can clearly see what colour I previously used and not cross contaminate my eye colour shade.
I do not always carry the Cath Kidston brushes in the set, depending on the occasion also I tend to use the storage wrap in order to carry my own favourite brushes.
The wrap is made of oilcloth which is basically cotton lined with an water proof plastic sheet ,moulded into the cotton. I think is PVC fabric. The fact that is made with oilcloth has a great advantage to me because I can wipe it clean easily with a damp cloth and it never gets stained, unlike my other brush roll sets which are made of plain cotton fabric and look stained.
I have been using this oilcloth wrap for over an year now and it has kept in a really good condition, the fabric has not cracked or got stained at all, it virtually looks new.
The pattern on the oilcloth is called Spray Flowers, which is one of the most gorgeous girly chintz rose prints from Cath Kidston in my opinion. The red, pink and white floral pattern of roses is layered out on a clean medium blue plain background.
Over the years I noticed that this set of brushes can be re-listed into other oilcloth prints. At the moment there are 3 choices on the website in case you don't like the Blue Spray Flowers one.
The coolest thing is that you can find different items on the website in the same print including fabric sold by the meter perfect for crafts and to give a whole new meaning to the word camouflage to your house lol
I got a set of Make up brushes like these from Cath Kidston for Christmas 2008 but mine were the grey bird print.
I love Cath Kidston prints and have almost everything i could ever need, covered in pretty patterns, so i was very pleased with my mum for choosing the make up brush set, as i needed new brushes.
At first i was worried about how the quality of the brushes might be since they are not from a beauty brand, but they are in fact pretty good (but i'm no make up artist so don't hold me to that!)
They were very soft at first and it felt nice to 'paint' your face with them, and it really did feel like painting because the handles are so long on the brushes, which i don't mind, but they are no good for slipping into your handbag on a night out.
The roll pouch is made from pretty oil cloth fabric and there are always new patterns available (but for limited times only usually!). the oil cloth means the roll is wipe clean, which is obviously handy for a make up bag. There is a slot for each brush (7 in total) and a small zip pouch at the end, where i store my foundation brush and sometimes some hair grips if i am going away for the weekend. It is hard to see from the photo but there is a clear flap of plastic that covers the brushes to keep them dust free when you roll up the pouch and fasten with the press stud. The roll fastens securely even though it only uses one fastener. The roll is 25 x 9.5cm, 30 x 25cm (opened).
I have used the brushes daily for over a year now and they are still in very good condition, with no loss of bristles.
At £22 i think these are really good value especially since they are so pretty and make a lovely present, for about the same or less as you would pay for a plain set in debenhams etc.
The sets are available online or from the lovely stores , a list of which is available on her website. But be warned, you will want to buy everything!!
