Goodness me I really cannot believe that anyone would pay £23 for a make up brush. I have had my Clarins “The Brush” now for a couple of years. I went to a Clarins House Party with a friend from work and this little brush was a free gift when I bought two or more Clarins products. As Clarins products are all so over the top in price anyway, I nearly didn’t buy anything at all but as everyone else seemed to buying something, I didn’t want to look stingy, so I put my hand in my pocket and bought my two items.
At the time of the party, I remember the host telling us that this little brush was a Limited Edition item and wouldn’t be on sale in the shops afterwards, or if I it was, then it wasn’t going to be on sale for long at all. I’m note sure she was being exactly truthful here, as I know these brushes are still available to buy now – unless they just decided to make them a permanent seller. If I were to buy one today this would set me back as much as £23 – unbelievable! It is a good brush, it’s lasted me for ages but I really cannot justify the price.
The brush is a mini kabuki powder brush, which is only about 7cm in height, and it does have wonderfully soft dense goat hair bristles. When you first see it, it really does resemble a man’s shaving brush in shape and size. It has a tiny silver coloured handle with the Clarins logo on it and it comes in a tiny mirrored travel purse, so it’s ideal for popping into your bag or taking on holiday etc.
I’ve used it lots of times and I can vouch for the fact that the bristles remain intact, they don’t shed, they blend powder well, especially loose powder and bronzer. I personally find it far too large for applying powder blusher and it’s better when used for larger areas. It covers well, very evenly and gives a great finish. I am told it works well for applying mineral foundation though personally I cannot say whether it does or not as I don’t use a mineral foundation. The rounded tip helps to ensure that powder is evenly distributed and it is quit elegant to look at. Despite its small size, it’s still easy to use and the bristles are excellent quality. It washes well and I leave to air dry.
However, despite all of its positive attributes I still think it’s vastly overpriced. I have used similar style and quality bronzing and face brushes before that have been just as good but have cost me less than half the price. I personally think that although it is lovely, you’d be mad to pay this much and I’m only glad I got to try mine for free.
Recommended, but only if you have noting better to spend you money on.
