I have only purchased on make-up brush in the past year and a bit and am not expecting to have to purchase another for a fair while yet thanks to this Clinique Powder Brush. I have a very high opinion of Clinique products having never been dissatisfied with anything I have bought from them and this is no exception.
The make up brush retails at £20 from Clinique's website http://www.clinique.co.uk, and likewise in department stores such as Boots and John Lewis but may be available cheaper during special offers and events that Clinique regularly have in stores. I did at first begrudge paying this amount of money for a make-up brush, but given the quality and time I have had it I cannot complain at all and would recommend investing in a good quality make-up brush such as this.
The brush comes in the standard pink/beige/green Clinique packaging box with a small folded instruction page inside. The brush itself comes in a protective plastic sleeve, which is slightly larger than the brush being approximately 17cm long and a 2cm diameter maximum. The case is frosted white coloured and flexible with a fold over top to seal and shield your brush from getting misshapen. The brush glides into the case very easily and keeps the bristles straight; it is easily removed from the sleeve too and doesn't backcomb any of the bristles. The casing does become stained after awhile of using bronzing powders and pressed foundations, but it is only a case so I don't find it a drawback.
The brush stem is a clear plastic colour with the Clinique branding on the bottom end; the stem is thicker at the brush side and becomes thinner at the opposite end of the brush. There is a silver joining band separating the stem from the bristle and holding them in place tightly. The bristles are long and thick with a curved surface cut into the end of them which gives you great coverage. All in all a nice looking brush and Clinique have used very study materials to ensure the brush will last.
This brush is an all over face brush and can be used for both pressed and loose powders; I personally have only used it on pressed foundation and bronzing powders so far. The bristles are very dense and thick which grip onto the powder elements, the more you load onto the brush, the more it will apply to your face so be warned. The bristles feel so smooth and soft on your skin it is lovely to use, they flow over your face beautifully and the rounded shape moves evenly over all your features. It manages to give a very good overall coverage compared to what I have used in the past. The thick brush also means that your powder isn't left with a gaping hole in the middle and wears down more evenly.
The brush also has Clinique's unique antibacterial technology that keeps it fresh and clean feeling. After over a year use this brush has kept its shape and shine and I am very happy with it and the results it consistently gives.
// CLINIQUE POWDER BRUSH \\
This brush is £20.00, very expensive if you ask me..your probably sick of me complaining about how everything is expensive but my god, it is! and I am poor unfortunately..
It looks like most powder brushes really, to put it simply:
plastic, metal and bristles.
I think they could of made a little bit more of an effort, I don't like that all make up brushes look the same!
I got this about a year and a half ago when I was in the Trafford Centre with my friend, I was walking through Selfridge's and a woman managed to brain wash me and my friend to both buy one. I wear powder daily so because I had the money at the time I didn't really think twice about buying it!
The brush is quite large and the bristles were so soft, they were so nice to just keep rubbing at my face..lovely!
I use loose powder each day over my foundation and the brush that I usually used was the cheap one which came with the actual loose powder I buy.
The brush collects powder perfectly and comes of onto your face evenly and easily. It helps blend it in more and give a more natural look to your make up, I can see a difference when I apply it with the cheap brushes and then with this one, it gives a more flawless look to my make up. The brush is also meant to be anti bacterial which is good because I have acne and need to try and stop dirt and germs getting on to my face.
Unfortunately, I found after a good few uses the bristles were falling out and the brush began to become stiff even if I washed it. I was disappointed because it did make my powder go on a lot more flawlessly! Whenever I try to apply it now with the brush it feels really rough and horrible on my skin and makes my powder go streaky, I don't know though whether I just got unlucky because my friends brush is fine and after reading reviews online this hasn't happened to a lot of other people.
Because of my experience I don't recommend and wouldn't buy again..well, maybe if I had the money.
I love this powder brush! They're available from boots for £20 which for the quality is a bargain in my opinion! There's loads of cheaper brushes available that i've tried but none are a match for this.
I have 2 other of Clinique's brushes, one for eyeshadow and one foundation brush, and i love them too.
I use this perticular brush for my bronzer and sometimes foundation if i fancy it, i've found this brush gives quicker coverage than my other brushes due to the size of it! Blusher is a no-no with this in my opinion, as it applies much too much, but if you're careful i'd say it'd be okay.
This brush i use mainly for my powder, either instead of foundation or to simply top it up after i've applied it. The density of the brush helps give very good coverage without the powder getting lost in the brush. The quality of the brush is great and appication is easy. With soft, smooth bristles it feels a bit like a feather duster! It's alot more gentle than your average makeup brush and i actually enjoy using it.
Physically it also looks great, it's medium sized but huge compared to most other brushes, and is very modern looking, with the clinique branding in golden letters.
I've had mine for a few months and it's lasted really well, i'd reccomend it. Cleaning it is simple and the bristle's are nice and firm and i've not had any fall out etc. It's brilliantly designed, looks/feels great and at £20 is worth every penny.
Ok so I had always heard that to get the best out of your make up you should use the proper brushes however for me I thought the proper brushes were a rip off to be frank and my naked eye could not see the difference between them and the cheap equivalents and in my own wonderful opinion my make up look fine when applied.
That was until i went out shopping with my sister and she persuaded me to give it a try. Me knowing nothing about make up brushes and such just went with what i knew to be a reputable brand and chose Clinique.
The brush itself is sleek in design with a clear handle which is a bit chunky so you get a good hold and not too slender. The brush itself is big and full and very soft to the touch. I bought the brush from a Clinique counter in Debenhams and it cost me £20. Another little bonus for me was the fact that the brush came with a translucent type wallet which is good cos I can dump it in my bag with this and not worry about it getting all dirty.
I use the brush generally to apply my pressed powder over my foundation and also my blotting powder. Immediately I noticed the improved coverage and also that the powder is much more evenly distributed with this than the cheaper alternatives.
I can proudly say i am a convert and intend on getting a whole set, eyeshadow brush, foundation brush and all. Having used it for some months now I have also cleaned the brush in soapy warm water and just let it air dry and after that it was back to normal and just like new.
Looking back £20 is not too much money for something like this because it looks set to last me a good while and it makes sense that if I spend about £40 on my foundation and powder because I want to look good and have quality why should I spoil all of that by uptting it on with something that only costs a few pound and will not do justice to the quality make up I buy.
Clinique Powder Brush
I have had this brush now for almost a year as a present and I had wanted it for ages but never got round to buying it. But now that I have it I don't know how I could have used any other make up/foundation brush.
Firstly it is so amazingly soft on my skin, for the first day I got this I could not stop brushing it on the back of my hand and my face, it is just so soft and gentle on my skin. And I could really tell the difference when I then compared it to my just average brush (That I think I bought from superdrug) and there was a big difference, the clinique one was a lot softer.
It is also quite big, so for me it is a lot easier and quicker to apply my pressed powder foundation in the morning and it is also great with my bronzer. I also sometimes use it on my arms and neck with my bronzer and it works really well.
It is really well made (as you would expect from a really good, very high quality brand like clinique). It comes with a rubber/plastic sleeve (I think it is some kind of pearly/see though colour rubber) which stops my other make up from potentially spilling on it and ruining it.
It also has this 'anti-bacterial' technology which would prevent you from getting spots too. One thing about this brush is that some of the bristles can get foundation stuck to them over time and then after this happened I cleaned it with a anti bacterial solution and water which cleaned it really well (and I was quite surprised at the amount of brown foundation coloured water that came out).
*Very easy to use
*Comes with a see though sleeve that protects it - for me it protects it from any potential make up spills
*Anti-bacterial technology - although I think this would be not use after it comes into contact with your foundation and skin (as bacteria is everywhere and it really couldn't stay anti-bacterial for very long)!
*Study and strong
*Easy to clean
*The bristles can clump together a bit - then after cleaning they are fine
*A bit expensive - mine was £20 from boots
Thank you for reading my review
I was bought this brush as a gift from my boyfriend (who had no idea what it was, just that I might need one to go with my new blusher that he had bought me!)
I have always been impressesed with the quality of their products and have always used high quality brushes as make up is applyed better with them.
Clinique is one of the world's leading brands of prestige skin care, makeup and fragrance products and since its launch in 1968 it has been used by all young and old. It is allergy-tested and fragrance free and developed by some of Clinique's leading Dermatologists.
They go by the 3-Step Skin Care System. Cleanse with Facial Soap. Exfoliate with Clarifying Lotion. Moisturise with Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion, that meets the individual needs.
This comes in the typical Clinique green cardboard box that is recyclable. It has a plastic durable end with silver middle and natural bristle brush ends in a fan shape for perfect distribution of powder.
on the cLinique counter this is priced at £20.00 but can be bought for as little as £6.99 on Ebay or Amazon. If bought from the Clinique counter you can sometimes receive free samples, like lip glosses and foundations.
Application & Benefits*******
Apply powder foundation or blusher with the unique, tapered, natural-bristle brush that gives you superb control for flawless, even application and a natural-looking finish. It also has an anti-bacterial technology that helps ensure the highest level of hygiene.
Sweep brush across powder foundation or blush compact with broad strokes for large areas, edge of brush for narrow: nose, mouth, eyes, hairline, then blend as needed.
I found this brush to be great quality bristles that didn't come out when using and when applying powder, spread evenly without spots or stripes appearing. This can be used for blusher/foundation or even concealer, But I would only use it for concealer and nothing else as the bristles may stick together.
The actual appearence of the brush is classy and stylish and looks great in any make up bag. You can buy brush cleaner if you want to maintain the quality ( I think Clinique sells this, although I have never bought it myself).
I am when it comes down to it a bit of a make-up freak, so to speak. If I see something new I like from Clinique or my other favourite Estee Lauder then I have to have it, funds allowing of course. They say a workman should never blame his tools but when it comes to make-up it pays to invest in quality or it can all go horribly wrong and unfortunately cheaper doesn't mean better with make-up and your skin won't thank you for it either.
One such thing it definately pays to invest in is make-up brushes. In general when you buy a face powder it comes complete with a face puff. Very quickly it looks like it's seen better days and with continued use becomes a breeding ground for bacteria. There are now brushes for all make-up uses; foundation brush, powder brush, blusher brush, bronzer brush, eye shadow brush etc. With the credit crunch now affecting so many of us it pays to invest wisely and you can not go wrong with Cliniques brushes. Although fairly costly they are very attractive and chunky which makes them easy to hold and use and still fit in my make-up bag. The powder brush in particular has a very big powder brush and is particularly suitable for pressed powder and loose powder. It is sturdily made and the brush hairs are superior in quality with anti-bacteria technology and will last for a very long time.
I have now had my powder brush from Clinique for some time, probably about three years at least and with regular cleaning it still looks and feels like new. I clean it every month or so with some warm soapy water and allow to air dry. I can tell when it needs cleaning as the brush hairs no longer feel as soft. Cheaper brushes have left me with a rash and loss of actual brush hairs. They would fall out in succession every time I used it and in the end the brush would look very sorry for itself. Over time I realised it was pointless to keep on buying different cheap brushes when the same issues would just reoccur and so I finally took the plunge and invested in some good brushes and they are still going strong today.
Overall a good set of brushes will last you a life time and give you a much better proffessional finish. Where to buy, well at all good department stores and on-line at Clinique.co.uk where all purchases come with a choice of two free samples.
Price wise, as I said before they are costly but once you have invested in them you will never have to buy another, so a very worthwhile purchase in deed.
