E.L.F Professional Travel Mirror
Advantages: small, cheap, handy
Like most women I tend to carry a small mirror around with me in my handbag. My make up has a habit of shifting and my hair gets really frizzy sometimes when left to its own devices and I like to head these things off before people see me! Up until about 6 months ago I was carrying a small mirror with a metal case which worked perfectly in any size bag but I must have dropped it somewhere because it suddenly went missing so I wanted to buy another one. Step forward E.L.F (www.eyeslipsface.co.uk) with all their lovely inexpensive items and this Professional Travel Mirror which, like most things from E.L.F, cost me just £1.50. I'm not the sort of person who can afford to buy designer bits and pieces so a cheap and cheerful mirror suited me just fine.
The mirror is just like a face powder compact and the outside is a pearly white colour with "Elf Professional Travel Mirror" on it in silver writing. With use this starts to rub off though and a few more months of floating round the huge expanse of my handbag with all my other "necessary" items will have this writing completely gone. Inside there is one normal mirror and one that's slightly magnified. I say slightly because it's not like alot of magnified mirrors where it's very obvious what they are because they reveal every open pore and flaw on your skin in magnified glory, no, this one is only just different from the normal mirror and sometimes it takes me a while to figure out which side is which it's so subtle. The compact is about 2 and a half inches wide so not very large and small enough to fit into all handbags.
The compact is hinged and to open you just slide a nail in between the two halves anywhere around the circumference and to close just press together until it clicks. I have used this mirror countless times for checking make up and hair but I don't think I'd like to try and apply a full face of make up using it. The pitfalls are countless but the ones that spring to mind for me are not bing able to see your entire face so you can't tell if you've blended your foundation and powder correctly and not being able to see both eyes at once so you can't make sure they both have the same amount of make up on them! You can move the mirror a long way away to get your whole face in but I have problems with seeing things in the distance and tend to end up as a blur in the mirror because my eyesight isn't clear enough. However with good eyes you could do this.
Recently I've had the mirror about my person in the house too, my boy (cat) had abdominal surgery just over a week ago and when he's refusing to roll over and show me his incision when I need to check it's ok I open the mirror and slide it underneath his tummy so I can see what's happening with his stitches! In fact it's so useful for doing this he's got to the stage where he hears the mirror open and starts to wander off because he knows what's coming!
Overall this is a small and handy mirror, the compact keeps the mirrors clean and I've found it very, very useful to have with me. At £1.50 it's a complete bargain too. Highly recommended.
Summary: Highly recommended
