They say that a good worker never blames their tools, however in applying makeup I am a firm believer that having good tools only enhances the makeup when it goes on. As such, when I was doing a big e.l.f. shop recently I did have a perusal through their list of brushes to see whether there were any that might be useful. The previous brush I used to apply powder to my face was looking well past its prime. The bristles beginning to have that frayed look and slightly roughened feel. Despite washing this brush a number of times it was well due for renewal and that it where this e.l.f. Complexion Brush came in handy. Upon receiving my brush in the post I was pleased to see that it came packaged in a neat plastic envelope which was transparent in colour allowing me to see the brush inside. The brush looks very modern in design being black in colour and features a matt black handle and black fine set brushes. This brush is slightly longer than my previous one and yet its minimal design and slightly splayed yet tapered bristles mean that it is a sturdy little tool which I have used everyday since ordering it. E.l.f. state that this brush is anti bacterial and can be used with both wet and dry products. As I rarely use foundation, tending instead to go for powder, I was definitely leaning towards the dry application method plus I was keen to see whether the antibacterial properties held any clout. To use this brush I simply swirl it around the intended powder and then rub it lightly over my face to get an even coverage. I find that the bristles are incredibly soft to the touch and this means that they do not irritate or rub against my skin. In addition, the softness of the bristles means that they really seem to pick up the powder well and transfer it from tub to face without any problems. The brush is the perfect size to fit within my pot of e.l.f. mineral booster (reviewed yesterday) and yet manages to cover my entire face within a matter of strokes plus it sweeps over my more delicate eye area gently which is an added bonus. After a few uses, I did begin to use this brush for both my blusher and powder and did not find that it held any residue from either product in between uses. That being said the pristine black bristles are beginning to look slightly lighter after a few weeks of use and therefore I think a wash in warm soapy water is in order. I have not really noticed the antibacterial properties of this brush, however as I rarely get spots nowadays that might by why however it is nice to know that it doesn't spread germs over my face whilst in use. I purchased this brush for £3.75 from the e.l.f. website and consider this to be very reasonable for such a useful little tool. Overall this is another excellent product from e.l.f. and for that reason this brush scores the perfect five from me. I hope this review has been of some assistance and thanks for reading! x
Preferring to use my fingers for applying my foundation, I only really use brushes to apply and powders/bronzer/blush. Needing a new brush and knowing that not just any old brush will do, I went on a hunt for a good but inexpensive powder brush. After reading a few reviews about how good e.l.f brushes are, I felt compelled to try one of them out. I needed a brush with enough bristles that I could quickly apply any powder over my foundation, but not too big that I couldn't control where I used it. I ended up going with the complexion brush, and although hearing good things I honestly wasn't expecting much. The complexion brush comes from e.l.f's Studio line on eyeslipsface.co.uk, and is packaged in the simple clear plastic bag that cosmetic brushes usually come in. The brush has a sleek black handle that is easily to hold and use. The first thing I noticed (and couldn't believe) when I took the brush out, was how soft it was! I was pleasantly surprised. When you use it, there are no black bristles that become loose and end up all over your face, unlike some brushes easily do. The brush is quite sturdy and the few good moths I've had it, doesn't show any sign of breaking any time soon. It's also easy to clean and doesn't harden slightly afterwards. Mine is still almost as soft as when I first bought it. Even after plenty of cleaning, the bristles are still nice and fluffy. I've never had any problems of the brush malting or feeling scratch on my face. It's very easy to work with, and I can easily use it to apply powder over my face without taking off my foundation with it. This is the first brush I've ever bought from e.l.f and I think I might have to buy some others from the Studio line on my next visit to e.l.f! A highly recommended versatile powder brush for anyone who wants good quality makeup brushes, at an even more affordable price.
A while ago I put in rather a large order from E.l.f.co.uk an online only cosmetic company. I buy quite a lot of make up and make-up related products from them as I found that they have alot of very good quality products that are cheap enough not to break my budget. I buy alot of make-up brushes and this one when I spotted it being called a Complexion Brush appealed to me as on the website it tells us that this is suitable to use with pressed, loose or translucent powders, blush or bronzer so I thought that for its £3.75 price tag it would be a useful addition to my kit and in the past I have bought alot of E.L.f make-up brushes and rather liked them on the whole. The Packaging: Well it comes packaged in a see-through plastic pouch with a card insert within it that tells us a bit about the product, how to use it and contact details for the company are given. The plastic pouch is actually handy to as well to keep the brush stored in to keep it clean and in shape as well as it being able to be taken out in a handbag and so on. The Brush itself: Well this is a long black brush with a smooth handle that says E.L.F Complexion on it in white writing down it and the thick, soft black bristles are inserted into to the handle via a shiny black section very securely indeed. The bristles are really thick, slightly domed to the centre of it and black in colour with a nice shine to them. The brush head is made from a material called Taklon which is an anti bacterial action material and its meant to be softer and more absorbant than alot of other brushes on the market. You can use this with dry, damp and with wet products an it doesn't agitate my skin and feels really smoth in use and to clean it I do so with a little baby shampoo or baby bath or something gentle and mild like that and allow it to try naturally and it keeps good shape and no bristles seem to come out at all whether washing it or using it. I use this for so many jobs on my face from using a mineral foundation to shading with bronzers and blushers etc and am really, really pleased with it! This is a fabulous quality, soft and great quality brush and I can really give it a big thumbs up! This review is also posted on Ciao under this same username.
***Why I want the product*** After using the same complexion brush for years for my mineral foundation, I cannot grumble at it as it was a cheap brush from eBay that did the job for a long time without any quarrels from me. However, endless amounts of powder application and endless amounts of cleaning have taken its toll. My brush started to resemble my cat when she is moulting, not a good look on your face when you are trying to get a good makeup application. My brush was 'scratching' my face even with the lightest of brush strokes, which made my all ready sensitive skin itchy and red, which took awhile to subside. While browsing ELF Cosmetics website I decided to have a look at their Studio range of brushes, to which I found a lovely brush called Complexion Brush for a very reasonable price. ***About the brush*** On the website this complexion brush looks soft, delicate with dense bristles that would be great for my mineral foundation. ELF boasts this brush is anti-bacterial, synthetic haired Taklon brush. It can be used wet or dry. Complexion brush helps to create a natural finish to your makeup, can be used with all powder cosmetics, foundation, blush, bronzer etc. ***So what is Taklon?*** Taklon is a name commonly used to describe synthetic fiber. Taklon is smooth, soft and fragile polyester. It is used in cosmetic industries as a green, vegan and allergy free. A synthetic alternative to animal hair brushes. Taklon are more hygienic than other hair brushes and are easier to clean trapped in cosmetics at the base of the brush. ***Can a brush really be anti-bacterial?*** Yes, cutting edge technology have created anti-bacterial products such as brushes that guard against harmful bacteria, fungus and mold. All this bacteria breads on your brush, which can lead to more spots, blocked pores or skin infections. This brush will bring you the utmost hygiene and help in creating a germ-free environment. All the materials used in the anti-bacterial process are non-toxic and safe to the environment. ***Packaging*** ELF's Complexion Brush comes in standard packaging really, the brush is held in a transparent plastic flexible rectangle wallet which is opened via the flap at the top. There is cardboard inside that the brush lays on, this tells you a little about the brush, directions for use etc. The bristles are protected with a plastic sleeve that ends at the handle. The bristles feel super quality for the small amount of money I paid. The black matte handle measures from bottom to base five inches with elf Cosmetics written in white on the side of the handle. The bristles are held securely into the shiny black casing, which is strong and durable. The bristles themselves measures just less than two inches from base to tip. The rounded tip is easy for powder cosmetics to be swirled into the bristles for an easy to use and natural finish to your makeup. The bristles themselves are very soft to the touch and remind me of much more expensive brands on the market today. ***How to use this product*** Simply use this brush like you would any other, for mineral foundations dip the brush into foundation, swirl and tap off excess, afterwards gently buff the brush and product into your skin. For blushers, tap the brush into the product and apply as desired, this goes with all other powder cosmetics. ***How well does this brush work with mineral foundations?*** On first application of use I found I had to swirl the brush into my minerals a few times for the product to be absorbed into the brush for easy application, as soon as the brush touched my face I knew it would be a joy to use. The bristles are very soft, that glided over my face with ease with no scratching or irritation what so ever. Once I had done my swirl, tap technique and buffed the bristles into my face I was able to achieve a beautiful smooth, flawless look in seconds. ***How well does the brush take to cleaning?*** I always clean my makeup brushes with baby shampoo, personally I think brush shampoo is a waste of money when baby shampoo do just as good at cleaning without damaging the brush. Wetting the bristles, taking care not to get any excess water into the base. Taking a small amount of shampoo, swirling the bristles into the palm of my hand I am absolutely surprised at how much foundation comes out of the bristles even though I clean it every other week. This excess makeup over time builds up bacteria, which leads to blocked pores, spots and even infections so a good cleansing routine for your brushes are essential. To make sure your brush doesn't dry out of shape is to shake or blot off the excess water and lay the brush on a flat surface in the way the bristles once were and left preferably over night. Don't stand your brush in a brush holder as the excess moisture will sink into the base of the brush, which will eventually lead your brush to damage. ***The morning after*** The morning after I cleaned my brush the bristles are just the same, soft and in good condition. I have cleaned my brush now at least four times and am glad to say the brush is still in very good condition and will be for a while to come. This is a great brush that I am very happy with, but with more brushes to choose from on ELF's website it is hard to just use one. ***Price and availability*** As ever you can purchase this brush from www.eyeslipsface.co.uk for a lovely, purse friendly £3.50. ***What I think about it/do I like it?*** This really is a lovely brush from ELF Cosmetics. I really cannot fault most of their Studio range and their brushes are one of them. Superb quality at very affordable prices, you cannot go wrong.
