Advantages: Minimal effort, maximum effects

Disadvantages: Apart from a little mess - nothing

I have hideously dry feet, I have tried absolutely everything to get rid of my dead skin but I find that nothing really seems to work. I would absolutely love to get a professional pedicure but I'm too embarrassed to walk into a salon and show my tootsies to the perfectly groomed women in there!

I first read an article on the Ped Egg in a magazine a few months back which seemed to sing its praises, and decided I would give it a go. I didn't see any around for a while and then the other day whilst shopping in town there was a market seller peddling these for £3.99. I excitedly handed over my cash and toddled off home as quick as my trotters would take me.

Once home over a lovely cup of java, I began the simple process of putting it together, pretty easy, you simply 'click' it all into place. Opening the stupid packet is the real challenge as it's one of those ridiculously hard plastic cases that seem inpenetrable by any scissors, teeth, knifes or chainsaws.

Ped Egg assembled, I plonked myself on the sofa and much to the bemusement of my kittens and the disgust of my boyfriend. I started to file away at the dead skin. You basically hold the Ped Egg comfortably in the palm of your hand, file face up and grate away at the dead skin and the idea is that the grains of manky foot stuff will nice and neatly fall between the holes of the file and be safely stored away in the base of the Ped Egg. Nice idea, and for the most part it does work exactly like this, however you will find that a few rogue bits of skin evade the holes and land on the floor - lovely! Foot snow!

There were no instructions with my Ped Egg, well none that I could find anyway, but it doesn't really take a genius to figure it out. However I found that with dry feet the Ped Egg doesn't really work and best results can be obtained after a nice long soak in the tub - any excuse for a bubble bath!

This is by no means a miracle cure for skanky feet, and if you have gnarled toes, bunions and the like this will not do anything for you, but if you are like me and suffer from dry, dead skin on your toesies then this will really improve your feet. I have used this maybe twice a week for about 10 minutes per foot in the last month and my feet are almost unrecognisable. I use a really deep moisturising cream after using my Ped Egg and the 2 combined have really improved the feel and appearance of the soles of my feet. I personally don't like using the emery pads that you also get with the Ped Egg, it's one of those silly pet hate things but it makes my skin crawl to think of the texture of it on my feet!

Once you have finished using the Ped Egg you simply unclick the file from the base, empty the foot dandruff into the bin, give it a bit of a wash and then store it file facing down, inside the base. It stores away in an egg shape - hence the name!

My Ped Egg is showing no signs of wearing out and because it is a metal file I think that this will last me for a long time yet. It is also worth noting that the file is not sharp at all, I scratched it along my arm (mainly cos I wanted to test the theory that you can't cut yourself with it) and didn't even get a tiny scratch so feel free to file away as hard as you can bear!

I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who suffers from hard skin on their feet as it is a wonderfully simple but efficient product. It doesn't completely catch all of the dead skin so you may end up decorating your carpet a little if you don't pop a towel down first or do it over the bath but it's well worth the minimum effort required!

If my feet keep improving I might just get that professional pedicure I so desire - watch this space!

Thank you for reading this and well done for stomaching all the foot snow references!

Summary: For £3.99 you can't go wrong!

Everyone seems to love this item. I want it now because my feet are very dry and uncomfortable with callouses.
