Advantages: Collects the 'stuff' instead of it going everywhere (yuck)

Disadvantages: Just not tough enough for me!

Okay, I tried to resist, but could not hold out any longer: I have given in to advertising and gone and bought myself a Ped Egg.

I was determined not to, based mainly on the fact that, on the advert, the shavings collected in this contraption reminds me of parmesan cheese shavings (sorry if you're eating your lunch or something!)

I have bought the original blue version: despite me being female, and therefore the pink version is aimed at me, I felt that the more robust masculine variety might stand more of a chance of working miracles on my hooves.

I paid £9.99 at Boots: i had checked around a bit first, but it was the same price in Superdrug also, and this way, I get my Advantage card points.

(They also sell them from a market stall on the street outside, where they cost around £2 or so).

The first thing I noticed was that this is vastly over-packaged, and I actually scratched myself trying to wrestle it off: Even using my giant scissors, I still struggled for about five minutes.

Eventually, it was out. So, you put the thing together yourself, according to the instruction booklet included: it's pretty straightforward and self-explanatory, as to which bits go where etc.

Eventually, you have an object in your hand that looks like a little cheese grater with a box stuck on the back to collect the, er, 'stuff' (bleuggh!) This is its' only unique selling point as far as I am concerned, as at least you don't get the foot dust all over the place. However, it still has to be emptied which is not something to look forward to.

The packaging tells me that I can test it's gentleness by rubbing it against a balloon which will not pop. I don't have one to hand, so I will take their word for it.

The assembled product feels quite flimsy, and I am scared to press too hard in case it falls apart in my hand.

Can it rise to the challenge of my hooves from hell?

Er, well, it's okay but it's no better than what I was using before (a pink oblong pumice from The Body Shop which cost around £3, if you're interested).

If anything, it's a bit TOO gentle for me. I need something a bit rougher and harder.

Yes, it has reduced hard skin, but only with massive effort from me, and no more than any other rival product.

My feet are certainly nowhere near baby soft, that's for sure. Sorry!

The kit also includes two 'sanding strips' which you stick on the back and use for a finer finish: it is literally sandpaper, and does actually have a really good smoothing action.

I will use the Ped Egg for as long as it lasts, but I don't think I will bother buying a replacement when it wears out, to be honest. Someone with more dainty feet than mine will probably find it to be a brilliant product though - just not heavy-duty enough for me. I think I need an industrial sander.

Summary: A mild exfoliator

The adverts for this always make me feel queasy - its the bit where she empies the scrapings, it looks just like parmesan cheese !
