Advantages: Cheap, safe and works wonders
Disadvantages: Not as mess free as advertised
The Ped Egg is a relatively new contraption designed and manufactured by JML. You could almost call it a home pedicure as the idea is that it gets rid of hard skin on the soles of your feet leaving them soft and smooth but without the mess!
Priced at £4.99 this little miracle can be found in stores such as Wilkinsons, though I got mine from Ebay for a slightly cheaper price. Cheaper versions can now be found on market stalls and in pound shops too, though are obviously not of the JML brand so may not be as strong so beware.
The name 'Ped Egg' was basically chosen because its a pedicure in the shape of an egg - obvious really. The egg is made of white plastic and is around 4" x 2" in size so fits easily into the palm of your hand when using. It is oval shaped though flat at the bottom.

Instructions
-----------------
You simply remove the white plastic protective lid and start scrubbing. This part of the device is a flat metal plate with raised insertions in which is the part that removes the dead skin. Simply keep scrubbing until you believe all the dead skin has been removed then finish off by giving your feet a rub with the black rough surface found at the bottom of the egg to leave your feet feeling they have a new lease of life!!

For such a small, cheap product this actually works very well. I brought it originally purely because my partners feet were in a bit of a mess from the safety boots he has to use at work so thought for the price it would be worth a shot and he loves it!
It left his feet feeling really smooth and replenished and he generally uses it now once a week to keep on top of the problem. The only thing we have found is that after a while the raised metal bits which remove the dead skin become rather blunt so the skin is not removed as easily now but for the price and the amount of use it has had I wouldn't hesitate to buy a new one.
Upon first inspection of this product I thought the metal plate looked and felt a bit harsh - almost like it would remove all the skin off your feet, rather than just the dead stuff but looks can be deceptive!!
The test is to use on the palm of your hand before you start which proves that although quite rough looking, when rubbed across your hand you really can't feel a thing and it didn't cut or damage my skin at all.
Apart from giving a good pedicure, as said earlier the great thing about the Ped-Egg is that it claims to not leave any mess. The metal plate it situated on top of a hollow 'box' which is said to collect the dead skin through little holes on the plate after it has been removed. Again, this really does work. I wouldn't say it got rid of all the dead skin as you can still see bits flyig around as you use it (nice, I know!) but when you open the container up after finishing there is a little collection of dead skin shavings at the bottom which you simply throw again, wash the product out, re-assemble it and start all over again.
When you open the container it really is quite shocking to see how much dead skin you can find in there, which proves to me it does the job it was designed to do and does it well.
One caution when using this product is that the packaging does state not to use if you have cuts or abrasions on your feet already as it may interfere with them.

If you are a sufferer of problem feet then this may be a product for you to try. My partner finds it a godsend and is now on the look-out for another one to replace the slightly worn one he has at present.
The Ped Egg did a fantastic job or ridding any dead skin from his feet and left them looking and feeling great. The Egg provides a cheap alternative to a pedicure to be used in the comfort of your own home. Its safe, pain free and (relatively) un-messy. I'd completely recommend it should you suffer from problem feet.
Well done JML!!
Summary: A truly great product from JML

- 27/08/09 The commercials disgust me when they dispose of the crust but I have seen tv reports that actually hype it up as the real deal so it sounds amazing. Great review! |
