Advantages: Smooth feet and eay to use
Disadvantages: Sore soles of feet if you take off too much skin
In another one trips to the supermarket, Mother Lools bought me a JML ped egg. At first I didn't know if this was "nice" present or to take it a bit personally that my mother was secretly telling me to sort my feet out!! Her reasoning was that after purchasing one for herself, she thought these were brilliant and that I too would appreciate the product.
The Ped Egg from JML is basically a little handheld device that gets rid of the hard skin on the soles of the feet leaving them smooth, giving a "at home pedicure". The way I described the Ped Egg to Mr Lools was probably less appealing, "It's like a mini grater to shave off the hard skin on your feet." When he looked horrified I responded with "don't worry the Ped Egg catches the hard grated skin in a little compartment so it doesn't make a mess". I stunned him to silence never the less.
***Look***
The Ped Egg is a handheld device. The shape is that of a cut in half egg and about the same size as a large egg. The curved part is to wrap fingers around. The flat section has a metal plate with little grooves cut out (like a grater). A plastic cover can be put over this when you are not using the Ped Egg. The egg container opens so you can tip out the hard skin removed which is caught inside.
The Peg Egg comes in a variety of colours, white, baby pink and baby blue.
***Price***
The JML Ped Egg is advertised to have a RRP of £9.99 and is sold in most supermarkets and also places like Boots, Superdrug and Wilkinson's. Most shops sell the device for £9.99 but my mother paid £4.99 on special offer from Asda. Wilkinson's also sell the Ped Egg for £4.99.
***Instructions for use***
To get started all you need to do is remove the plastic lid and then start rubbing the metal plate on your feet over the areas of hard dead skin on your feet. If like me you do not like feet it is not the most pleasant experience but pretty effective at removing dead skin.
It is important to rub gently and do not take too much skin off at first, as you can always go back to remove more later.
The container should catch the skin shavings. When you are finished you should remove the back of the container and tip out the skin shavings into the bin and then wash out the container.
***Results***
I was very surprised at how effective this product is especially for such a low price. Because I do not like my feet I do not do much too them and refrain from touching them where possible but I would never have considered them to be in poor condition.
I do wear high heels on a regular basis so my heels and balls of my feet do get a build up of hard skin but nothing that I would have ever considered a problem.
After using the Ped Egg all traces of hard skin had been removed and the soles of my feet were left silky smooth. All after using the Ped Egg for less than 5 minutes. I now use the product once a week and this keeps the soles of my feet smooth.
The metal plate is surprisingly gentle but be warned do not go overboard when removing skin from your feet. On one occasion I rubbed quite hard for a long period of time. At the time my feet just felt smooth but the next day when I woke up the soles of my feet were sore. When I walked I was left with a burning / stinging sensation all day. I did learn my lesson and was less enthusiastic then next time I used my Ped Egg.
The product does claim to be mess free and all skin shavings are caught in the Ped Egg container. I do not think this is completely true. You will be very surprised at just how much skin you remove and what is caught in the back of the container but you will see some of the skin shavings flying around in the air as you scrub your feet. I have a dark wood floor in the living room and the first time I used the Ped Egg (in the living room) I was left with stray bits of skin on the floor. From now on I use the Ped Egg in the bathroom.
***Overall***
My advice would be just don't get too carried away and take too much skin off your feet, or you will be in pain the next day walking, using the Ped Egg does get slightly addictive. My second bit of advice is to do this over the bath if you can, the product is not as mess free as advertised. A great way to smooth the skin on your feet.
Summary: Handheld home pedicure device

- 27/08/09 I have heard that you need to be careful not to shave off too much of your foot. For now I'll stick to pumice stones though just to avoid discomfort |
