Advantages: FILES AWAY THE SKIN'S HARD SKIN...

Disadvantages: POOR PLASTIC & RATHER GIMMICKY I THOUGHT...

You know what big babies we women are when it comes to gimmicky toiletries items?

Well, I'm no different so when I saw a 'Ped Egg' on my holidays recently I just had to have one, and at the ridiculously cheap price of £1 I had literally next to nothing to lose by giving one a go!

Of course being a regular reviewer on Dooyoo I have read many a write up about the now infamous Ped Egg so time to throw my two penneth into the mix, folks....

Marketed by the USA's 'Telebrands' and advertised on TV- or so it says on the packaging - these new fads have been selling for £10 a throw up until recently.

Now I can think of better things to spend a tenner on but not a pound, so I grabbed my robustly packed Pedicure Treasure to give it a trial run back in the caravan...well I figured there would be no mess as the little gizmo had an ingeniously 'convenient storage compartment' so it wouldn't matter where I blasted my coarse, callousy feet, would it really?!

First thing to note was that there was a lot of super-charged blurb to read - all about how brilliantly designed this ergonomic oval-shaped white plastic wonder was, and how safe it was to the touch.
Why it was so gentle according to the hype that it wouldn't even pop a balloon if grated against it!
Including two emery finishing pads designed to stick individually on the flat bottomed design of the Ped Egg; both pads have a sticky back so you can peel of the protective layer and then stick to the underside ready for action.

The ergonomic shape had been moulded in three sections to all slot together on unpacking and then fit nicely into the palm of your hand to make manoeuvrability easy and effective.

The base is the emery pad flat-bottomed bit, the middle section which is the 135+ Micro Filed grating element clips onto the egg-shaped lid, and then is designed to unclip easily to release the skin shavings when finished.

And herein lays my biggest gripe with the Ped Egg - the quality of the goods.

The theory is great, plus it works well in practice although it is a tad more brutal than the advertisers would have you believe as those 135+ micro files are too big in my estimation and I can't help feeling a piece of Italian hard Parmesan cheese would be better off being grated rather than my tender feet - Ouch!

It works and it works well, but the plastic is rigid and tacky although the 'Professional' Ped Egg does clip together well as a unit.

For me the feel of it is too rigid; a more supple, pliable plastic would have felt better in my hand and again reminded me more of a cheese grater than a foot filer - sorry Telebrands!

Described as : 'gently removes calluses and dead skin to give your feet the incredibly baby soft look and feel that everybody loves', without a doubt that is down to the emery pad rather than the grater - an effect you could easily achieve with a piece of fine grade sandpaper, people, in my humble opinion!

Ok, it's not messy, it's compact but is there really any need for such an implement in my life?

Erm, not really.

I lived without this little fad so far with no ill effects and my hardened feet will respond just as well to some TLC and a little specially designed softening foot cream.

Don't get me wrong, it's been a novelty to use it but I suspect it will end up in the confines of the bathroom cabinet of a poor, unused toiletries bag relegated to the lower reaches of a seldom-used cupboard somewhere at home.

Am I glad I tried it?

Yes I am!

Like most humans I have an innate curiosity for the latest gadget or fad so it had to be done and I'm sure there are some out there who love these Ped Eggs to pieces but I for one can live without it, thanks!

3 Dooyoo Softened Stars for my review today, worth a pound of anybody's money just for the novelty value of buffing your feet with an emery pad!

I am curious about this too, but think it sounds a little too harsh for my liking!
