      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      i would recommend

I recently bought this brush as i have heard amazing reviews about it and i am so pleased i did, it is a bit expensive at £32.50, but it is one of my make up essentials.

The brush has a black handle with the brand name is white on the inside, the bristles are made from goat and synthetic fibers which are black with a white tip. The length of the bristles vary in length making them prefect for blending in even the creased areas of your face.

I squirt a small amount of foundation onto my hand and dip the brush into it, i then place 5 strokes on my face; one on my forehead, one on my nose, one on each check and one one my chin. I then proceed with circular motions all around my face, blending in the foundation you previously placed. I think this brush is brilliant for creating an even tone and you find yourself using less foundation ad the brush blends it out thinner than any other i have tried before. The brush did molt a little bit in the first few uses but it no longer does this.

I also find the brush works best when it is clean, and foundation does clog the brush up. This can easily be done easily with Macs brush cleaner.

Overall i would definitely recommend this brush as it is fantastic for creating an even tone with no streaks. I do agree that it has quite a high price tag, but it is worth spending the money out on as it hardly ever needs replacing.

        Disadvantages

A fantastic brush for blending and applying liquid and powder foundations

        MAC 187 Brush

I have only just started using mac products and I have three of their brushes and this is one of them. I have been looking at the mac products for a while but I have been put off buying them due to the price, as some of their products (such as brushes) can be really quite expensive.

        *About the product*

This is the 187 brush, it is a duo fibre brush, which means that there are two types of bristles that make up the brush. The brush fibres and white and black. The brush has a fairly long handle and it is incredibly soft. It is a full size brush and it is quite big, although it is really light weight. the length of the brush from the tip of the bristles to the end of the handle is approximately 17.7cm and the diameter of the bristles is about 3cm.

*What MAC say about this brush*

"A large full circular brush used for lightweight application and blending of face powder or pigments. Use to create soft layers or add textures. Made from a soft blend of goat and synthetic fibres."

        *My opinion of the brush*

I have been using this brush for about a week and I really love it! I have used this brush with my new clinique repairwear liquid foundation (which I will review shortly) and it is just an amazing brush. I have not really used foundation brushes before but since my eczema has really cleared up and since I have been using the eucerin 10% moisturiser I have been able to use new products on my skin and this brush works fantastically with my dry and now only slightly sensitive skin.

        -Brush fibres

I have a normal flat foundation brush and I thought that this would have a similar texture and feel, but it does not. The brush takes a bit of getting used to, as the black part of the brush fibres are dense and the white bristles are not as densely packed and they move around really easily.

-What products I have been using this brush with

I have mainly been using this brush with my new clinique repairwear foundation I have found that this brush works really well with liquid foundations and it is fantastic at blending in foundation. I have also tried this brush with a collection 2000 face powder and it works well with that too.

-How I have been using this brush, applications and results

I have the clinique liquid foundation and I first apply the foundation with a normal cheap foundation brush, and I just streak the foundation over my face, EG: one swipe on my forehead, chin, nose, etc. Then I use this brush to blend the foundation into my skin. I find that even if I press a bit harder with the brush, the bristles still feel super soft on my skin.

I have quite dry skin and I find that if I blend my foundation too much (with a brush or even my fingers sometimes) that I can get some flaky patches if I blend too much. But with this brush as the bristles are incredibly soft I don't get any flaky patches when blending.

I find that because the bristles are really soft that I don't need to press hard at all when blending with this brush. I only need light pressure on the brush to make the brush blend my foundation and or powder well.

I use this brush to blend and all I do to blend is, I gently move this brush around my face over the steaks of foundation that I applied before and I move it in small gentle circles and using this brush my foundation is blended fully with minimal effort and in a very short space of minute - it probably takes less than a minute to blend all of my foundation into my skin using this brush. (another method of using this brush is to apply your foundation to the back of your hand, dab the brush into the foundation and stipple the foundation onto your skin - I don't so this as I find it does not blend my foundation as well, but you may want to try this method too).

One thing that I really like about this particular brush is that it does have the white fibres within the black denser fibres. This reminds me to clean the brush after a couple of uses, which keeps away bacteria and foundation that stay in the brush fibres.

The handle on this brush is really good too, as it a quite chubby, it makes it a lot easier to control the brush, especially when compared to brushes with thinner handles. The extra control means that you can apply your foundation for blend your foundation/powder exactly where you want it.

I love the result/finish that brush gives, when using this my skin looks great. It blends my foundation in fantastically, it does not leave any streaks or brush lines at all, it is incredibly soft and smooth on my skin and it is easy to control.

        -Cleaning the brush

I have used this over the past week and I love it and thanks to the white bristles I know when the brush is getting too dirty and needs cleaning. I have washed this brush once since I bought it and it washes really easily.

I was going to buy the MAC brush cleaner, but I spent enough (but I am going to buy it next time) and I used 'simple' soap (the brand not just a normal soap) and it works well for cleaning my brushes. I just wet the brush and swiped the brush over the surface of the soap and again because of the white bristles you know when the brush is clean and it probably took less than a minute of soaping and rinsing for the brush to be clean.

Although there is one downside I found with clean this brush, that when it is wet it does not smell pleasant, but this wears off and when it is completely dry it does not smell at all.

        -Price and availability

I bought this brush and I had researched it before hand, as I didn't really know which one to get as MAC make a lot of different brushes, but I am glad that I got this one. There is a smaller version of this brush which I believe is exactly the same, just smaller and it is the 188. This brush is currently priced at £31...yes £31, I did type that correctly. It is quite expensive but in my opinion it is worth the money as my foundation would be quite streaky without this brush and it blends fantastically.

On my MAC research that I have been conducting before I buy any of the products I found that you can buy MAC products from the debenhams website, I didn't know they sold MAC but I think it is a fairly new brand to debenhams and the MAC products are only sold on the debenhams site, not instore (Not that I have seen anyway). This brush is also sold on the mac uk site (link below).

        Conclusions

        Good points

        *Incredibly soft bristles
*White bristles remind my when to wash the brush - to stop it getting too dirty
*Chunky handle - more control over the brush and where the product is being applied
*Smooth fibres - does not feel harsh on my skin and does not make flaky patches on my skin
*Blends my liquid foundation fantastically well with no brush streaks
*Blends my foundation incredibly quickly and easily and evenly too
*Light weight, easy to use and very easy to wash as well
        *Bristles don't come out easily

        Bad points

*Expensive (one star off for the price)

        To answer my title...yes!

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          Airbrushed to perfection

I have a confession to make- i am a bit of a make-up junkie, though im sure this is obvious when you look at my other reviews. Through the years i have spent a fair amount of money on the latest products. One day i realised that my products were no good without the proper equipment to go with them- i.e makeup brushes.

The first makeup brush i decided to get was one to apply my foundation. Previously i had used my fingers but had heard that using a brush creates a more airbrushed finish and a more polished look.

I decided to go to a MAC counter as i had heard their brushes were really good. I told the shop assistant i needed a foundation brush and she recommended MAC Duo Fibre Brush.

On the MAC website this brush is described as "A large full circular brush used for lightweight application and blending of face powder or pigments. Use to create soft layers or add textures. Made from a soft blend of goat and synthetic fibres."

This brush is PERFECT for applying foundation. I apply foundation on to my face - i usually put a tiny little bob on my nose, forehead, chin and each check and then i pat ( not rub) each little bit, i then use the brush in circular motions to blend the foundation into my skin.

By using this my foundation looks much more natural and my skin looks more flawless. It also stops you looking like you are wearing too much make up.

This can also be used for powder or cream blush though i have not used the brush for this.

It costs £29 which is extremely expensive but i have had mine for a year and with regular cleaning it has lasted. It does shed a little bit but it is a small price to pay.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

MAC have brushes for all uses, but this is the one brush that should be found in all make up boxes

This brush was recommended over and over again on I forum I used, though I failed to see what the hype was initially. It was while visiting the MAC counter, when the MUA used this on me that I really understood why this brush is a staple product!

It is a soft, stippling brush with the brush hair being of different lengths to provide a flawless look. When used with foundation it is difficult to put too much product on which is always a bonus and you can then increase the coverage as needed. The brush can also be used for powder or cream blush and gives the most natural look.

Although MAC products do appear pricey, you really get what you pay for with them. The brush costs £29, but it lasts for ever without shedding like many cheaper synthetic brushes do. As with all brushes, they work at their best when kept clean. As a side note, you will often find 187 brushes on Ebay, please note the vast majority of these are fake particularly if they are under £10, or coming from abroad via sellers who seem to just sell branded make up brushes. These will obviously not perform as well as the original MAC brushes do.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

A great brush which performs well, although a bit pricey.

I'll start by telling you what maccosmetics.co.uk states about this brush, before I give my opinion.

"A large full circular brush used for lightweight application and blending of face powder or pigments. Use to create soft layers or add textures. Made from a soft blend of goat and synthetic fibres."

I have to say I really rate this as a make up brush. It has so many uses for me I can't imagine not owning it! Firstly, I prefer a full coverage look with foundation, however I don't like looking like I have lots of foundation on. Enter the Mac 187 brush, also referred to as a stipling brush, it blends foundation perfectly! I apply a little to my face using either the brush or my fingers, then I blend by moving the brush in circular motions on my face. The brush is amazingly soft and I find it a joy to use.

If you are familiar with the mineralise blushes from Mac, then I would also recommend this brush be used to apply them. By swirling the brush lightly in the blush it seems to pick up the perfect amount, which can then be blended into the cheeks. Sometimes I find the mineralise blushes can look really shiny and obvious on the face which is avoided when using this brush. Although the mineralise blushes are supposed to leave the shimmery finish anyway, I find it is much more natural and subtle when blended properly.

As you can see from the picture, the brush has a white tip on the bristles. This means that the ends get coloured really easily with foundation and blush, so the brush needs to be cleaned regularly. I use the mac brush cleanser. Once washed the brush needs to be dried flat. It retains its shape really well and I have yet to have it shed any bristles which is great.

This brush retails at £29.00 on maccosmetics.co.uk and in stores.

Overall I give this brush 4/5, but only because it is a bit on the expensive side, as a product it performs really well.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

            Make your mind up

I personally don't know why everyone is raving aboutMAC cosmetics. I am personally not that impressed. They are mediocre and full of chemicals. They just don't worth the money, tried them and are not my thing. They are overpriced and you pay for the brand name rather then the quality. I do feel this intro is necessary as I will prove it by reviewing the 187 MAC duo fibre brush.

First of all this brush is absolutely amazing. The simple idea behind is pure genius. I mean you have two type of bristles that work so well together, natural goat hair and synthetic... who would of thought?

This brush is highly versatile I can easily use it to apply minerals powders, finishing powders, liquid foundation, and even blush. All I can say is that you can do all this things with this brush so beautifully and you might even eliminate the need of individual brushes for the earlier mentioned tasks. I could easily live only with this brush, is that good!

This brush costs £29.00 and that is one really expensive brush. It is good quality though and is an investment for the future as MAC brushes last for many years looking intact if well taken care off.

Now you would think that if this costs almost £30 is actually impossibly to reproduce its quality cheaper. I heard that on ebay most of the MAC brushes sold are fakes, honestly I am not surprised and never ever personally ventured into buying big brand names off ebay. Anyway I came across a seller that was selling a brush advertised as duo fibre brush some time ago and that looked so much like the MAC 187 from the picture, so I decided to buy it. I just wanted to say that the brush that came home is comparable with my MAC 187 quality wise, there are a few design differences but they both look virtually the same. They both do the same great job with my make-up as the bristles are virtually identically made. I only paid for the similar brush that I got from ebay a total of £10, maybe this was just a lucky buy, but is still doing well after 5 months of continuous use just like my MAC 187 brush. Both in immaculate condition.

I do feel ripped off by MAC at this point. There are similar bristles brushes out there that are just as good and don't cost £29..... If someone out there can make them for £10 and sell them why MAC can't? ! What can I say.... I guess you truly pay for the brand name and not necessarily the quality. Makes you think about it!
