This is the best product I've ever used and definitely the most important in achieving my whole makeup look. Before I bought this brush I used to apply my foundation with my fingers which as you can imagine was super ineffective and my foundation wasn't applied well at all. This brush literally revolutionised my whole makeup routine, it really is amazing and gives me really even coverage and it's very easy to apply two coats of foundation without it looking caked on because it blends so well. The shape of the brush is great as you can reach areas like either side of your nose easily without getting foundation where you don't want it. It's perfect for achieving precision in this way.
The brush is one of the more expensive available in shops but it's a one off cost that is really worth it in the long run as you will achieve perfect coverage every day. In terms of cleaning the brush, it is difficult to do unless you get yourself some baby shampoo and rinse using the shampoo and lukewarm water - don't use hot water as this can melt the glue and the brush hairs are more likely to fall out as a result. I then tend to leave it to dry naturally as this is better for the brush, so you should aim to clean it when you aren't expecting to wear makeup the next day. However this isn't always possible so drying the brush with a tissue will suffice. Foundation can build up quite quickly on the brush so I would suggest cleaning it around every two weeks.
Overall I can't recommend this product enough, it is a must have for your makeup bag for that smooth perfected finish!
In the past I have always used foundation brushes that tend to bend when you're trying to buff in the product. This leaves a streaky finish in my opinion so when I saw this foundation brush for sale in Boots I decided to give it a try as the 3 for 2 offer was on at the time. It costs £9.99 which at the time I thought was a bit steep but now after nearly a year of owning it I think it's a very reasonable price for such a great product.
What I like the best about this brush is the domed shape and the fact that the hairs, which are synthetic and 100% cruelty free, are soft. The brush is extremely firm but by no means scratchy which makes buffing the foundation or concealer into the skin extremely easy when you move the brush in circular motions. I find that this design leaves a much smoother effect than the other types of face brushes I've purchased in the past.
I must add that I am on my second Expert Face Brush. This is because I found that the first one I purchased moulted quite badly after I washed it for the 3rd time. After this I would find myself pulling rogue hairs off my face every day so I decided I needed another. I think that the brush falling apart was more my fault than a flaw in its design because I was using very hot water when washing them which may have melted the glue in the ferrule, causing the hairs to fall out.
With my second Expert Face Brush I wash the hairs in lukewarm soapy water and try not to get any other part of the brush wet to prevent this problem from happening again. This is a little difficult because the hairs are so short so usually I end up soaking the ferrule regardless but at least the water isn't scalding.
My only other dislike is the fact that it takes so much longer to wash than other brushes I own. Because the hairs are so densely packed, the special soap I use to clean my brushes takes a long time to wash out again and I have to give it a really thorough cleaning once a week to make sure any product has been washed out and there is no soapy residue left.
The real techniques expert face brush is an absolute must have in every makeup users collection. Sam Chapman really out done herself as usual with the stunning quality and practicality of this amazing brush.
This brush is made out of hand cut synthetic bristles and feels extremely soft on the skin. It is very similar to the buffing brush by real techniques looks wise, only differences being that it is less dense and rounder at the top. It is an expensive feeling brush that feels reliable in that it would last many years in your collection. It's eye catching orange handle is something I love about having this in my collection as I can spot it straight away and it adds some colour to what would usually be a dull collection of brushes.
This brush buffs in liquid foundation seamlessly leaving the most beautiful air brushed finish. Creating a flawless look on the skin is so effortless when using this brush as blends out the product so beautifully. As the bristles are so soft and gentle I notice that it doesn't irritate my dry skin to create flaking unlike some other brushes. Because of this after using this brush it looks like your skin has been airbrushed and looks incredibly smooth. I can't emphasize enough how amazingly smooth it feels on the skin.
This brush is sold own its own and is available from a number of places such as amazon, boots and superdrug. The great thing about the real techniques collection is that you can usually pick up this brush along with 2 others on offer and only have to fork out about £20 for all 3 amazing brushes. My bank balance definitely enjoys that as much as I do.
I would definitely recommend this brush to anyone looking for an affordable good quality foundation brush.
I'd heard beauty bloggers and youtubers go on about how amazing Real Techniques brushes are for months and a few weeks ago, I decided to go ahead and buy one! I'm so glad I did. I used to use a standard flat foundation brush but this is so much easier and makes my foundation go on flawlessly. I can put my foundation on and it will be blended out to perfection in a matter of seconds. I don't know how long this brush will last but it seems really sturdy and hard wearing. It wasn't really cheap but it wasn't expensive and I feel you have to spend a decent amount on a good long lasting make-up brush. It's definitely worth the money! This brush is a miracle and I recommend everyone tries it.
Created by makeup artist and Youtube phenomenon Samantha Chapman, the Real Techniques Face Brush is 100% cruelty free, made from synthetic Taklon bristles and 100% perfect.
I use the Expert Face Brush on a daily basis to apply my foundation.
I dab the foundation onto my face, on my cheeks, bridge of my nose, forehead and chin and then start to buff it in using my Expert Face Brush.
The brush is incredibly soft and feels lovely on the skin. It allows me to create a natural look with my foundation and allows you to vary coverage, starting light and then enabling you to build it up where you require higher coverage.
When in use and when washing, it does not shed and maintains its shape perfectly.
Although I only use it for my foundation, I have in the past used it for cream blush, highlighter, contouring and even for powder and it has worked perfectly.
It's a great little multitasking brush that costs only £9.99 in Boots. It feels so luxurious that you'd estimate it's retail price as being much higher.
A brush that I would never be without and you shouldn't be either.
True Fact: once you use a real techniques make up brush you will instantly think why didn't I buy them a long time ago! These brushes are at a reasonable price very reasonable in fact. I would never go back to using any other branded make up brushes other than real techniques and nearly complete with my collection. The brush can be used for applying foundation as I do myself and the finish is just unbelievable even with a liquid foundation and little goes a long way. I have recommended these brushes to all of my friends and family and allot of them have purchased them too and have not been disappointed. The great thing about these brushes also is that they are easy and manageable to clean. The added bonus Sam Chapman has her own blog on YouTube and uses the brushes in her tutorials to show the amazing things they can do as there is such a variety and this is how I found out about these brushes as I'm not one to spend a long time in boots or superdrug but when I had seen these in the tutorial I just had to buy them and see what the fuss is about! Overall 5* product and extremely happy.
Some people said that applying foundation with your finger is more than enough, I think so too,but not for long till I found the perfect brush to apply my foundation, and that is real technique dome foundation brush. I apply my foundation with the brush by using circular motion, using the right brush and right technique will set your foundation without making it look cake on your face, the brush is so soft and it's easy to clean, and the hair does not fell off, the brush has a steady grip, and it's easy to hold and applying your foundation. The brush also comes with nice orangey colour and will definitely brighten up your make up brush collection. The price are affordable, compare to other high end brand and they have similar quality or maybe even better, I highly recommend this brush to beginners that want to start their own brush collection and for other users to use this brush as cheaper alternative.

I am reviewing the expert face brush by Real Techniques which is for applying and blending cream or liquid foundation. I actually already have quite a few brushes from this range and I love them so much that every so often I will treat myself to a new one to add to my collection. I already have the Real Techniques foundation brush, but after reading reviews about this brush it sounded brilliant and a brush that should join my other collection of Real Technique brushes. Real techniques are by far the best brand of make-up brushes that I have ever come across. I find their products fantastic quality and when used properly, I think they give fantastic results. The brush comes in a plastic box and it clearly states on the front what the product is by and what type of brush this is.
You can clearly see the brush through the plastic packaging which looks a lot wider and puffier than the Real Techniques foundation brush. On the back of the packaging it gives you information about Sam Chapman and also tells you a little about the brush and what it can be used for to create professional results. It also lists the website address where you can see various tutorials on how to use this and other brushes in the Real Techniques range as well as make-up ideas. The brush will help your foundation look pixel-perfect even in harsh light. The ultra-plush bristles are synthetic, hand-cut and 100% cruelty free. The handle is made from, aluminium which makes the brush light and easy to use and it's also self standing for easy storage. The handle to this brush is a metallic gold colour as it is a brush for the base of your make up. Other brushes such as brushes for the eyes are a purple colour.

I purchased the brush from my local boots store for £9.99 which I think is very reasonable for a good quality brush like this one. You can also buy the Real Techniques brushes from Superdrug and website such as Amazon. Boots currently have the Real Techniques brushes on offer for Buy 1 get 2nd Half Price, which I think is a really good offer. I find that they only have a selection of brushes in store and they unfortunately don't have the full range.

Using the Brush

I was going to be using this brush to apply liquid foundation. I find when using a brush to apply foundation it gives a much better coverage and also a nice finish to it. I actually already have the Real Techniques Foundation Brush which I think is really good and is great at applying foundation. I actually decided to purchase this brush to add to my collection of other Real Techniques brushes that I currently have. I dispensed some of the liquid foundation onto the back of my hand so it warms up a little which means that it glides onto the skin much more easily than it would straight from the pump bottle. I did watch the tutorial before applying the product but I had an idea on how to use the brush anyway. I dipped the brush into the liquid foundation that was already on the back of my hand and then started to apply this to my face starting from the centre of my face and working outwards. I noticed in the tutorial Sam used a circular like motion when going over the foundation to give a natural finish.
I applied foundation to one side of my face first working outwards from the nose and I then went out this in circular motions with the brush. The bristles to the brush were very soft and they didn't feel scratchy against my skin. I then applied the foundation to the other side of my face in exactly the same way, until I was satisfied that the foundation had been blended perfectly. No loose bristles became detached during the use of the brush and I actually found that the foundation blends a lot easier using this brush than the Real Techniques foundation brush which I sometimes use. As the brush is slightly more puffy and wider than the foundation brush I think this helps to apply the product much better and to get a lovely, natural looking finish. I found the brush nice and light to hold and I like that the brush is free-standing. All of the Real techniques brushes are free standing which means I can stand them up in the order I want to use them when applying my make up. Unlike some other brushes I have used in the past this brush does really help apply make-up rather than gathering the product up in between the bristles. I have actually been using this brush a lot more than my foundation brush because I prefer the results and find foundation much easier to apply with this brush.

Caring for your Brush

As with all make-up brushes they need to be cleaned regularly to get rid of nasties and germs that can lurk in there. If you don't wash your brushes then this can cause outbreaks and spots which isn't nice. Although you don't need to do it this often I was my brushes on a weekly basis. I clean them in between uses using Boots No.07 Brush Cleaner. Other brands such as Mac and Clinique also do brush cleaner as well. Simply squirt some of the cleaner onto a paper towel and then wipe the brush over it a few times to get rid of the majority of the foundation. Every week I give my brushes a really good clean in luke-warm water and a mild shampoo such as a baby shampoo and then leave them on a towel over-night to dry. Don't be tempted to use a hair-dryer to get the brushes direr quicker as this can melt the glue that holds the bristles in place. You should ideally give your brushes a good, deep-clean at least once a month. It doesn't have to be done every week like me.

Before even buying this product I had high hopes of it due to the experience I have had with the other Real Techniques brushes. After reading some reviews of the product my hopes were even higher so I expected perfect results from using this brush. The brush is a lot different looking to my foundation brush which I was a little surprised at, as you can use both of them to apply liquid and cream foundation so I thought they would be slightly similar. The expert face brush is a lot puffier, although I think the bristles are slightly shorter. The bristles are extremely soft and I found it so easy to apply liquid foundation using the tutorial as a guide for the first time when using the brush. I did also pick up a few tips when watching the tutorial as well, so it's definitely worth watching. I like that the brush is really light-weight and also free standing as well. It took a few minutes to apply my foundation and the results were so natural. You can also use the brush to apply powder and blusher as in the tutorial but I have a separate brush for powder anyway so I was planning on using this brush only for applying foundation. I also found that the brush cleans easily and after it's been left to dry it looks as good as new and feels lovely and soft ready to use again. In terms of value I think the brush is very reasonable as this is around the price I would expect to pay for a good quality make up brush like this one. I don't have anything bad to say about this product and will definitely be recommending it to others.

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush
My favourite foundation brush of all time! I've tried a lot of foundation brushes from high end to high street and the search stops here!
The real techniques brushes were created by make-up artist Samantha Chapman and not only does she create lovely brushes she also makes amazing make-up videos which you can find on youtube under the name 'pixiewoo'. That's just for those of you that enjoy make-up tutorials.
I've also used the stippling brush by real techniques which is also good but out of the two I'd choose this one every time. I feel with the expert face brush you get more coverage so this really depends on the coverage your after. The brush is the perfect shape and size for going underneath the eyes, around the nose etc. It gives the most beautiful flawless finish.
It has a very sturdy thick handle and can be stood up. I clean it regularly with baby shampoo and it always dries as good as new (I've found with some make-up brushes in the past that there lovely until you wash them and there never the same) I also like the brightly coloured handles.
Another thing I love about this brush is the price! It retails at £9.99 which I think is excellent value! A foundation brush from Mac or Estee Lauder or any high end brand will probably set you back £40.00 or more and from my experience I have found the Real Techniques brushes to be just as good if not better.
As I mentioned in my recent Real Techniques stippling brush review, Real Techniques is a line of make-up brushes designed by Samantha Chapman, who is a well known YouTube beauty guru and a professional make-up artist.
The expert face brush was one of my first Real Techniques purchases and I've been so happy with it that I've since bought another one as a back-up! I bought mine from Boots and paid £9.99 and it's also available from Amazon for the same price. I think that this is a very reasonable price for such a good quality brush and after several months of regular use it is still in brilliant condition with no shedding at all despite being washed regularly and the bristles are still great quality and still feel nice and soft.
The brush handle is an eye catching light shade of bronze and it has a black base. The brush is very lightweight and easy to grip and control as it is slightly curved in the middle. As the handle has got a flat base the brush can be kept stood upright which saves storage space and keeps the bristles away from the surface of my dressing table, minimalising the chances of the brush picking up any potentially nasty bacteria and it looks quite nice stood on my dressing table as well - it definitely looks more expensive than it is.
The synthetic taklon bristles are quite small & very soft and dense, making it easy to buff both powdered and liquid foundation (not together obviously) onto my skin for a smooth and flawless finish. It spreads the product evenly although it does work better with powdered foundation when buffing and for liquid foundation I usually prefer to apply a little of the liquid onto my hand, dip the brush in and then 'paint' it on in even strokes, blending as I go as I find the finish that bit more natural. The curved shape of the brush allows me to get good coverage, even on the more fiddly parts of my face, eg near my hairline & the sides of my nose etc meaning it's great for contouring as well as applying foundation.
The brush gives good coverage and it never irritates my skin. It makes applying my foundation really quick and the broad brush head blends well, meaning that the foundation looks a lot more natural rather than looking like a layer of product on my skin. It never causes the foundation to go streaky or patchy and I'm always happy with the finish. If I had to pick a fault it'd be the fact that the bristles tend to get clogged up with liquid foundation a lot quicker than the stippling brush, meaning it needs washing quite often. It is well made though and reasonably priced and if you're considering buying the buffing brush I'd recommend buying this instead - it's a lot cheaper and buffs just as well.
Overall I recommend this brush and I give it five out of five stars.
Real techniques Expert Face Brush
I purchased this foundation from love-makeup.co.uk and the delivery time was fantastic. I already have two of the Real Techniques brush sets - the core collection set and the starter set (eye brushes). I am so impressed with the quality of these brushes - they are so much nicer, softer, smoother and cheaper than my MAC and Clinique brushes!
- Product description (from the real Techniques website)
"Ultra firm and broad for application and blending of cream or liquid foundation: look pixel-perfect even in harsh light ultra-plush, synthetic taklon bristles are hand-cut and 100% cruelty-free, self-standing for easy storage, extended aluminium handle is light and easy to use."
- About the product
The brush is designed to be used with foundation (cream and or liquid I believe) and the bristles are composed of taklon bristles, which are even softer than all of my other brushes (eg: my MAC, Body Shop, Clinique, ELF brushes). This brush has a gold handle, like the core collection brushes and it has the name of the brush printed on the handle. The base of the handle is quite wide which means that the brush can stand up on its own.
- Using the product and results
Firstly, I love the brush mainly because the softness of the bristles - the bristles of this brush are softer than any of the other makeup brushes I own, from Clinique and MAC to Ecotools and ELF. I also love the shape of the bristles as it is a paddle shade which is great for applying foundation and the tips of the bristles are slightly narrower and are great for getting the foundation to smaller areas of the face (around the nose, under the eyes etc). I have used this brush with many of my foundations (not all of them) and it works fantastically with the majority of them. For example, this brush applies and blends my Illamasqua Light Liquid Foundation really well; it also applies/blends my Bourjois healthy mix serum foundation well - as my as my Kiko medium foundation and Avon Ideal Flawless Foundation. The only foundation that I have tried that this brush doesn't work as well with is my Lancôme Teint Miracle Foundation as the foundation is really streaky naturally - even when applied with fingers or any other brush.
I have tried other foundation brush such as cheap flat foundations brushes, my MAC 190 brush, the Real Techniques pointed foundation brush, my MAC 187 stippling brush and the ELF angled foundation brush and this expert face brush is the best of the lot (by far)! This brush does not make my foundation look streaky, it gives good coverage and the bristles feel incredibly soft, smooth and gentle on the face. This brush also blends my foundation very well, it is easy to use and it can stand up on its own on my dressing table. Overall, I can not praise this foundation brush enough - it is just the best foundation I have used and it is cheap too!
- Price and availability
I bought this foundation when it was first released in the UK from love-makeup.co.uk (fantastic delivery time) and it was priced at £9.99! This brush is available to purchase from Amazon.co.uk (£9.99 and free delivery) and boots.com.
*Stands up on its own, easy to store
*Easy to clean (deep clean or spot clean)
*Lightweight and ergonomically designed
*Incredibly soft/smooth bristles
*Paddle shape of bristles is great for applying foundation
*Applies and blends foundation like a dream - minimal/no streaking
*Great price! And available at Boots
.....None at all!
Thank you for reading my review
I've started to really love the Real Techniques brushes as they are high end quality but also affordable. If you are not familiar with the brand Real Techniques then let me give you a little insight, created by Samantha Chapman who is a professional make up artist that you can find on the very successful and top rated beauty YouTube channel, Pixiwoo. After 15 years in the business working with the likes of Sir Paul McCartney, Peaches Geldof, Charlotte Church and many more for high quality fashion magazines such as Elle and Cosmo, as well as being an instructor at the Pixiwoo Beauty Bootcamp! Samantha decided to branch out into make up brushes as she states 'I know great artistry is only as good as your techniques and tools.'
If you log onto the website, or go to Boots you can view the full range. I wanted to get a new foundation brush as the current one I was using was leaving my skin with streaks so I looked as though I had applied it with a wall paper roller brush! I shopped around and came across this collection, deciding upon the Real Techniques Expert Face Brush.
It claims to be 'ultra firm and broad' which aids easy application and also the blending of cream and liquid foundations - which are perfect for me as I only wear that type! Having said that I have used this with a mousse type foundation which is quite thick and awkward but by using this brush I found it smoothed it on to my skin as easy as the liquid ones! A real treat!
Like all the brushes in the range, it is made using 'ultra plush, synthetic taklon bristles' which are hand cut and '100% cruelty free' so you don't have to worry about who was harmed in the making of this brush. I love the design of this brush as the aluminium handle is coloured with a gorgeous, vibrant gold yellow that is curved inwards from the bristles to make it easier and also more comfortable to use. At the bottom of the brush is a black section that had a round bottom - made this way so it can be self standing which makes for easy storage! At the top of the brush are the bristles which are a dark brown with white and grey faded tips. To look at it seems like a plumper version of your average foundation brush as there are more bristles packed into it. The reason being that it turns it from a normal one to a two in one - a foundation brush with a stippling or buffing brush mixed in! By having more bristles in a rounded shape it gives a sponge like effect to your skin when blending in foundation.
I usually use this to apply my Revlon PhotoReady; however you can use any foundation you like! I start off by dabbing a few dots of foundation over my skin, and then in circular motions blend it in all over. Its SO, SO, SO soft on my skin, as some can be scratchy or hard which makes application slightly irritating and can cause rashes or breakouts - with this brush I could apply it all day, but I would have about four inches of make up on if I did!
Sometimes if im in a rush and I just bring one brush with me then I will use this to apply my blusher or powder as it is soft enough to pick up the product and distribute it perfectly, although I would prefer to use this as a foundation brush.
You can purchase these brushes at Boots or Boots.com as well as The Real Techniques website and any online make up stores that stock this brand. I really would recommend this brush as it is an all rounder and makes applying foundation that bit more easier. It's not expensive at all at £9.99 which is an amazing price for a brush that feels such high quality. Think how much you would spend on a MAC brush!
Ultra firm and broad for application and blending of cream or liquid foundation: -Look pixel-perfect even in harsh light -Ultra-plush, synthetic taklon bristles are hand-cut and -100% cruelty-free -Self-standing for easy storage -Extended aluminum handle is light and easy to use
