Advantages: Nice relaxing bath

Disadvantages: None that I`ve found yet

I bought the Remington body spa for my husband at christmas (awwww, aren`t I thoughtful). Well, the only way to get a decent present from a bloke, is to choose it yourself, and the pleasure you get from this bath spa lasts a lot longer than a box of chocolates.

This piece of equipment is just pure heaven, and setting it up is simplicity itself. It`s nothing special to look at, but I don`t care what it looks like as long as it does it`s job. All it is, is a blue and white plastic tube, with a handle at the top which hangs over the edge of the bath with the aid of a suction cup. At the bottom of the tube, is a multi-directional bubble outlet(short pipe).

It is very safe to use as it comes with a low voltage transformer and a circuit breaking safety plug. The lead from the transformer is quite long, so mine sits just outside the bathroom door. You must repeat the safety test eveytime you use the spa. To do this, you just plug it in with the power switched on, then press the test button on the plug. The spa will stop working and the reset button will pop out, then you unplug it, push the reset button back in, and then plug it back into the power socket. Doing this ensures that if something does go wrong with the spa, then it will automatically disconnect from the power supply, and you won`t end up looking like burnt toast.

To use the spa, you must first fill up your bath until the water covers the bubble outlet. Then you just switch it on, lay back and let the continuous flow of powerful bubbles massage all the stress from your body. You will instantly be amazed, after the first time I used this, I felt like I`d just had a proper massage from a professional masseur.

If you want the bubbles to spread more evenly round the bath, then you need to attach the dual bubble jet attachment. This pushes onto the bubble outlet at the bottom, and you just twist it to secure it in place.

There is also a hand held bubble massage attac
hment if you fancy a more direct massage. This fixes into place the same way as the other attachment. You can feel the benefits even more if you use this. You`ve got to be careful with this though because it does give out a very powerful spray of water, and you could easily end up soaking your entire bathroom if you don`t watch what you`re doing. When I`ve finished, I usually direct it at the walls round the bath, it`s brilliant for washing away the kids` grubby handprints.

Also supplied with the spa, are two bottles of aromatherapy oils. There`s one for relaxing, and this is yellow in colour and smells just like normal bubble bath to me. This one claims to soothe and moisturise the body. The other one is called sensual, and is purple and smells slightly of lavender. This one claims to calm and moisturise the body. I won`t bore you with the ingredients as both bottles contain the same stuff, apart from 2 that differ, and I`ve never heard of any of them.

As with anything electrical there are always a few precautions to be taken into consideration.
Firstly, never ever touch the plug or transformer with wet hands(obviously). Secondly, it is safe for children to have the spa switched on, but you must never leave them alone with it. Thirdly, never direct the hand massage attachment at ears, eyes, mouth or other sensitive areas of the body(mmmm, well I wouldn`t know about things like that, now would I?).

Because the spa was built for use with the bath it can withstand submersion in water for small periods of time. If you do accidently knock it into the bath, you just turn it off, shake it over the bath and then reattach it. If it is submerged for longer than 5 minutes, then you must unplug it, and leave it to dry out before using it again.

The instructions also say that you must only use the bath oils supplied and no other bubble bath. Well that`s total codswallop, the kids love their bubbles, so I just tip in a load of matey b
ubble bath then let the spa do the hard work. Hey presto, a bath full of bubbles in minutes, then I just remove the unit so the kids can play.

Prices on the body spa differ from shop to shop. Mine was on sale in Argos for £63. They are also available in Index and Boots.

Go on, treat yourself, you know you want to.
