This past year, I have started to have an obsession for nail varnish and nail art. And so after giving several hints, I was lucky enough to receive RIO nail art kit for Christmas. For those of you who don't know what nail art is, it's basically where you paint your fingernails or toe nails with decorative patterns. This was the first set of these pens that I bought. I have been doing nail art for a little while, I used to use a paintbrush or a pin pushed into a pencil to do dots etc. I saw these in Argos for £25 and although they were a little expensive, they come with a thin brush when you unscrew them, if you just pull the end cap off you get the dotting tool. Although I love these, the different colours are great, each set are different, they do have a few bad points. This kit is quite good value, so long as you remember not to expect salon quality products!! The nail art pens are a great idea - combined pen and brushed varnish, completed with a de-clogging pin to clean the pen after use. The concept is simple in that the top of the brush handle can be popped off to reveal a thin metal tube, which can be used as a fine tip pen to drawn or write on the nail. It is a great idea, as it allows you to achieve a very fine line or small dots, that are difficult to freehand otherwise (unless perhaps using dotting toold, etc). The Rio Nail are set was for me a waste of money. It cost £24.99 for a set of 8 selected colours (although I have had a little look and of you shop around it can be got for a little less now). The nail polish itself was a little thinner than I am used to which may be to aid its flow through the needle type detail tool on the top. However this detail tool still became clogged on some of the colours. Even of cleaned carefully after use this still happened - they may need to be stored upright. The nail varnish is very bad quality. The varnish when applied is very thing and goes gloopy very easily. It takes ages for the varnish to dry and sometimes doesn't sit well on other brand varnishes. There isn't a very wide variety of colours unless you buy all the other sets. The one advantage to these nail varnishes are the brushes. The thin brush allows you to apply the varnish in different patterns which takes some practice and the small needle end lets you add smaller detail, however I find this gets blocked very easily.
