A nice nail file that works well and looks pretty

I have often looked at glass nail files and thought about getting one but never did until 3 months ago, I actually spotted them while out Christmas shopping and decided to buy one.

There are several glass nail files on the market but the one I went for is the Royal Diamante Glass Nail File, I must admit I was a little bit tempted by the colour and sparkle

My glass file came in a little pink velvety feeling case to protect it, the glass file is pink at one end and gradually fades to white at the other end. At the top of the file there is a little diamante heart in white crystals which although serves no purpose does look very pretty. The file is approximately 14 cm's long and 1 cm wide. One end is pointed too which s very useful for gently tidying up cuticles.

The glass file doesn't really feel like a nail file its quite smooth, its nothing like the real old fashioned metal ones or the rough sand papery emery boards.

I couldn't wait to try my new file and used it that same evening. I love doing my nails and keeping them a nice shape is important. I found the glass nail file very gentle but very efficient, I didn't need to put any pressure on the file it will simply glide over the nail end shaping it however you choose.

Being gentle I personally find I don't get straggly bits left which can be the case with emery boards, particularly cheap ones. The file gives a nice smooth finish to my nails without putting any pressure on them.

To keep the file in good working condition and also hygienic, after all nails can be germy things at times, I just give it a quick wash with mild soapy water after I've used it, If you don't do this the file becomes less efficient and of course not that clean!

I've been really pleased with my Royal Diamante Glass Nail File, it works very well and looks pretty too. Although it was quite expensive to initially buy with care it should last a long while. Although mine came with a little case I never keep this in my handbag, being glass its obviously breakable and with everything I have rattling around in my bag it would probably get broken. I always keep a small emery board in my bag for emergencies and use my glass file at home.

I bought the Royal Diamante Glass Nail File from a local independent chemist but they are available from several shops that sell this type of product and also many online stores too such as Amazon UK, I paid £4.99 for mine however Amazon currently have them on sale for £3.53 so its best to shop around.

If you are looking for a nice nail file or even a gift for someone I would definitely recommend taking a look at this, pink wasn't the only colour choice there were several different ones to choose from.

        dont buy

I bought my glass diamanted nail file from the local chemist five mins away.
It cost me 2 pounds and 99 pence so a lil expensive but they looked so very pretty and i just could not resist.
Normally the feel of nail files (and sand paper whilst on the subject) make me cringe. A lot! But this lil wonder did nothing of the such. Woo!
It had six diamante on when i bought it, when i got it home i took it out of my handbag and there was five remaining. A further two fell off that week. And a further two the next week after that.
They file really well and seem to perform better than usual nail files. They come in loads and loads of various colours,i got the purple colour one.
I think over all that they are a bit of a waste of money as diamonds dont last long at all. Wouldnt recommend. they looked so very pretty and i just could not resist.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Highly recommended for those on a budget

For a while now I've been reading reviews about glass nail files. As someone who buys a pack of 10 emery boards on a regular basis and then breaks or loses all of them I wondered if I'd be able to keep tabs on a glass file for longer. I didn't however want to splash out on one as I wasn't sure if I'd like it and also I'm on a tight budget so I had a browse on Amazon and found these Royal glass files for £1.99 each. There is £1.99 shipping on that too which I wasn't keen on paying, I'm pretty sure a nail file doesn't cost that much to send, but they were the least expensive option even including that.

Looking at the picture above I was sent the file on the left which is clear with a diamond shape of sparkly bits stuck on. Mine is not quite a diamond shape because one of those bits fell off in the post so that wasn't a great start. I would have preferred one of the coloured ones but you can't specify design. Still the sparkly bits aren't really what I'll be using but it's worth bearing that in mind if you bought one of these as a gift.

The glass file is about 5 inches long and comes in a clear plastic case shaped to a point the same as the file. I thought it could be stored in this but found the top flap doesn't have anything to tuck into properly, it will go inside the bottom of the case to a certain amount but is too wide to go in enough. I do keep my file in the case but it's not closed properly so again if you were buying this as a gift it might be worth getting a different one. The textured part of the file which is used for your nails goes up to about just over an inch from the top so there's plenty of file to go at and I'm told these last forever and just need rinsing clean occasionally so hopefully I won't drop mine and break it!

Before trying the file out I had some worries about the feel and noise of the file. Like some people are bothered by nails on a blackboard I have a thing about plates that don't have a glossy covering on them. I can't bear this kind of surface to come into contact with my knife and fork and won't use a plate like that so I wondered if this would have the same teeth curdling effect on me! Initially it did a bit but I soon got past it!

I had several rough edges to my nails when this arrived as my last packet of emery boards had vanished the way they always do so I sat and filed some of these nails immediately. I file one way only because it's supposed to prevent weakening of the nail tip and mine are already weak enough. Once I'd got over the sound and feel of the file it did a very good job of my nails and smoothed them all out perfectly. This left a few white lines on the file which I rinsed off, it's nail dust that's all, then dried it and popped it back in the case.

I've used this file lots of times now and still haven't lost it or broken it. The tip isn't slim enough to clean under nails so don't even bother trying but the filing function works very well. I haven't lost any more sparkly bits but I'm still irritated by the missing one everytime I look at it! I've dropped this a few times but only on carpeted floor so no harm done and I do intend to buy another to go in my handbag, I always need a nail file when I'm out and never have one. So overall it's been a success and not a very expensive purchase either. I'm removing one star for the sparkly bits that drop off but otherwise I really like my glass nail file. 4 stars from me.
