When I am spending a good amount of money, I want something that just does the job.

I think nowadays, a lot of us know that body brushing is good for you. The health benefits of improved circulation and the beauty benefit of smoother less dimpled skin are well publicised.

The body brush we owned was looking a bit shabby, so when I was shopping in Boots, I thought that I would get myself a new one. I spotted this attractive hand held brush from the Sanctuary Spa Covent Garden Range. I believe that is a good make. The price tag was a bit hefty. It is currently for sale at Boots at £10.25. But, a good brush would be worth paying this for if I would use it and get the benefit.

I tried this brush out pretty soon after buying it. Lookswise, it is a bright and cheerful, if a bit cheap and plasticky. There are much prettier brushes out there. Design wise, I like the style of it with the firm plastic handle. I have fairly average women's hands. I find it sits quite nicely in my hand, though I would prefer it if it had a solid handle rather than being in two halves.

The bristles are about a centimeter in length, and are a good length and firmness for you to feel that you are having a good scrub without your skin being left red raw.

There is a significant design flaw I find though. This brush can be seperated into 2 halves by a slight twist action between the orange handle section and the white bristle section. I have no idea why it has been designed this way. If it were to fill with shower gel or something which then was released onto your skin as you brush, I might be more sympathetic to the flaw. As you scrub, I mostly go in straight lines, but around my thighs I want to rub in circular motion. When I do this, the brush seperates into 2 halves. It makes no difference how carefully I scrub, the unlock mechanism means the brush splits. Therefore, it annoys me every time I use it.

I will keep using it for the time being. It is not completely unusable. However, it is not something I wish to really recommend as I believe that things a woman uses should be something that is time saving, or pleasant to use. When this is falling apart on me, I get a little worked up about it, and it stops it being as beneficial to me.

I am going to award it 3 stars as it really is a middle of the road product, which is a shame when it comes from a brand with a good reputation. Some bits are right, it just doesn't do it for me as a whole.
