Advantages: Easy to use, good results.
Disadvantages: Belt can look clumpy under clothing.
After seeing many TV ads for the Slendertone System Abs for Women, I decided to take the plunge and buy one for me and the male version for my partner. Both of us go to the gym regularly (ok, he goes regularly, I try to!) and we were under no illusion of being able to lose weight with the Slendertone; this will not make you lose weight, it will only tone up your muscles so of course you will have to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle and do some exercise to see the maximum results!
The Slendertone uses electric impulses to stimulate the muscles via gel pads to make your stomach muscles contract and boy does it work! I wasn't sure what to expect at first, feeling worried that it might hurt, but it feels fine and it feels like it is working which is the main thing! The gel pads are attached onto the belt which fits comfortably around your waist and there are different positions to place the pads for different sized people. The belt is controlled by the Slendertone controller which plugs into a small socket on the belt and there is a handy pocket to store it in while in use. The controller can be used with either the male or female system so we only have one controller - was cheaper to by one system complete with belt and controller and one without. (Shop around to find the best price, there are lots of websites which sell much cheaper than the Slendertone website itself!). The gel pads will last for about 20-30 uses and spare ones can be purchased online. There are often deals such as buy one pack get one free for replacement pads so look out for those!
The controller allows you to change the strength of the contraction from 0 to 99. On first using the belt, I got up to 35 comfortably but can now do 99 after having used it for 4 weeks, hardcore!! There are also 7 different programs of varying length in time and each having their own warm up, main workout and cool down. Number 6 is the best, I feel. I won't ruin the surprise by telling you why, you've just got to try it, it's great! As for the other programs, they only seem to differ in the length and intensity of each contraction.
After using the Slendertone for just 20 minutes a day for three or four days, I noticed straight away that my obliques were firmer to the touch and after having used it for 6 weeks, and having taken measurements of my waist, I have noticed a loss of 3 inches, which I was quite happy with!
One great thing about the Slendertone is that you can wear it while doing other jobs around the house, such as washing up, ironing, cleaning, etc. so it doesn't require any time taken out of a busy routine at home. You could wear it at work but if you don't want people to notice it, probably best keep it at home! The only difficulty is bending down to pick something up when your stomach muscles are contracting so strongly! Also, take care when you put the belt on that it doesn't sit on your hip bones as this makes your leg vibrate with each contraction, a bit of a weird sensation.
When you first use it, watch as your stomach muscles contract, it's amazing to see how your muscles move and how it gets to your lower abs, an area notoriously difficult to combat with sit ups!
I have been very pleased with my Slendertone and will continue to use it, along with a healthy exercise regime, remember that it will not make you lose weight, it will tone up your abdominal muscles. Go for it, you won't regret it!
Summary: This won't make you lose weight so don't expect it to, it will tone you up!
