Advantages: Waterproof, effective, pretty, girly, comfortable elastic, ruched bonnet edge.
Disadvantages: Relatively expensive compared to other, own-brand shower caps also on offer.
Being a slave to the straighteners, styling products and showers, I've realised that keeping up the premise of everyday being a 'good hair day' is a tough one. However, one thing which really has helped is my gorgeously pretty Soap and Glory shower cap!
~*~* So what is it? *~*~
For those unfamiliar to the oh-so-sexy shower cap, this is a nifty product designed to help protect your hair from the sprays and steam while in the shower or bath. Usually made of waterproof plastic with an elasticated edge (helping to keep the hat on your head), shower caps come in a range of designs, shapes and sizes.
Being a fan of hair products and treatments designed to keep my locks as glossy and healthy as possible, I've also found that a shower cap can be invaluable when coating my hair in conditioner - I tend to cover my hair in conditioner or intensive treatment, stick a shower cap on my head for 5 - 20minutes (depending on how busy I am or how straw-like my hair looks!), meaning that I can do something constructive without any nasty conditioner running into my eyes, ready to be rinsed off - fantastic!
~*~* The Soap & Glory Shower Cap story *~*~
I bought my S&G shower cap in Boots (where it was sold at the RRP of £6.00), being part of a wide range of S&G products. Both Boots and Harvey Nicholls are the leading retailers of S&G goods, with larger Boots stores stocking a massive range of their body care products and gift sets.
The shower cap is sold in a pretty, trademark frosty pink box with funky black, white and mint-green lettering and designs. The S&G products have a really kitsch, glamorous feel and this is certainly shown in the attention to detail in the packaging, from the deliciously curvy font to the cool black and white photo on the front of the box. The box has a large 'open', clear pane window through which you can see the shower cap enclosed in the box.
The shower is a similar pale apricot-pink colour (very girly) with a ruched detail running around the edge (giving a very cute flared, skirt edge to the cap which feels very retro). This edge is also elasticated, meaning the cap sits securely on your head with no slipping or sliding or (most importantly) no water or steam being able to penetrate your hair.
The cap also has, aside from the gorgeous pink colour, a swirling S&G tagline of 'One for Cover' printed on the front of the cap, beneath which sits a pretty black bow. The cap has a smooth, strong plastic feel and is waterproof. The cap has a satin-lined polyester outer cover and a smooth pvc inner, giving a comfortable and easy-to-clean feel.
~*~* The shower test *~*~
I decided to take my shower cap on its test run - I found that the hat does fit neatly and securely on the head, keeping all hair secure and with no areas of hair uncovered. The hat comes in one size, however due to the elasticated edge there is a fair amount of stretch to the cap which is great for people with thick hair (or large heads...). Also, I noticed that the elastic was not too tight (some shower caps I've used have become physically painful when pressing tightly on my ears or forehead!) but this felt quite comfortable and light.
The cap kept in place all through my shower and did not slip or move. Most importantly, the cap did not let in any water or steam to my hair, which meant no frizziness or sogginess post-shower.
The shower cap needs to be looked after for a long life (and a clean environment for your hair to sit in while you shower) - the cap should be rinsed both inside and out after use, being left to drip dry naturally to ensure it is kept clean.
Overall, the look of the hat and the feel when you wear it is of uber-glam girliness - it's incredibly cute and it feels a real treat to wear it. And, if we're honest, when you're wearing a shower cap, you need every little bit of cuteness you can get! It feels lovely on and does exactly what you need, however it is more expensive then comparable (and equally good - though not as pretty) shower caps which can be bought from Boots (from 99p - £3.50 for own-brand versions). However, if you do like S&G products, want to give this as a cheeky gift to a girl friend or just fancy a pretty treat, this is an adorable and chic choice for what can be a pretty run-of-the-mill product.
Summary: An uber-chic and girly waterproof shower cap from Soap & Glory.
