When it comes to fake tanning in the past I tended to use a gradual tan which you apply like a moisturiser all over your body and so I always used my hands to apply it. Last Christmas though one of my friends bought me a St Tropez gift set and including in there was some of the instant fake tan. Thankfully what was also included was a St Tropez self tan applicator mitt and this is my review of it. First and foremost I have to say that the only way I knew that this was a St Tropez branded tanning mitt was the fact that it had come in one of their gift sets. I think it would be nice if it had some sort of branding on there somewhere because you can buy it seperately from the tans and it doesn't say anywhere that it is a St Tropez product and you do pay a little more for it based on the brand name. The mitt is available from amazon for £4.30 and some other tanning mitts can cost just 99p in places like Bodycare for example. The mitt is basically as you would expect and is large enough to fit your hand in. There are no finger holes or anything like that. My hand fits easily in to the mitt and I think it would be a good fit for most people to be honest as I have small hands and there is plenty of room in there. One side of the mitt is a thin foamy material and it is with this side that you apply your fake tan. I have used it with the St Tropez mousse and I think it works well with the mousse to be honest. The tan sits nicely on the foam surface and with the mitt you are able to really rub it in to your skin making sure that you don't miss anywhere and I do think the mitt helps you get a really good finish. I do only tan my legs with instant tan and I'm sure were I to be tanning all over with instant tan that I would need someone to do my back but for my legs I can manage! The foam surface has a plastic backing inside protecting your hands from the fake tan as well which is obviously a massive advantage as you don't want to stain your hands deep brown or orange! Some cheaper mitts don't have this backing and I have to say for instant tan I would avoid these unless you plan on using rubber gloves underneath too or you will make a right mess of your hands. The other side of the mitt is an even thinner material which you can use for just rubbing over your legs once you have applied the tan and it is said to just make sure that the finish is as smooth and perfect as it can be. I don't use this side every time that I tan simply because I am confident enough in the application of the tan for just my legs. When it comes to cleaning this mitt I tend to just wash it in the sink with some hand wash. Running the water through the mitt and squeezing it out makes the fake tan product come out and basically cleans it. I wouldn't recommend putting it in the washing machine because chances are you may damage the plastic layer inside I would have thought. I do think this is a good quality tanning mitt. It has been used plenty of times since I got it at Christmas and is showing no signs of damage anywhere other than the odd bit of staining from the tan which can't really be helped. It does its intended job well and I can't ask for any more. As I said maybe a small label saying St Tropez would be a nice addition for the price though. Thank you for reading my review!
I'm naturally very pale and although I am quite happy with this I do use fake tan occasionally for a more olive skin tone, especially during the winter as I think I can look quite washed out and ill at times! While I prefer a spray tan for a natural finish I find that bottled tan can look just as good as long as it is applied correctly and it is cheaper as well. A lot of my friends just apply fake tan with their hands which I am also guilty of doing in the past but because I was self concious of my orangey brown palms I now always use a mitt. I was lucky enough to get my St Topez mitt from the sale section in my local Boots for a mere £1.20ish which I was incredibly pleased with - bargain or what!? Had I not seen it in the sale I'd of just bought a generic unbranded one from Amazon or something as one mitt is the same as any other in my opinion so it's kind of pointless paying extra for a branded one. The retail price for this mitt is around £4.00 which isn't too bad but there are much cheaper alternitives. The design of the mitt is pretty basic - it is a bit like an oven glove really minus the thumb section. The glove covers the whole of my hand. It doesn't have any sections where my fingers should go like a normal glove and this ensures a smooth, streak free finish. It is one size fits all so it can be used by beauty concious men as well as women. It is very large - a bit too big really but it is still useable so I can't complain too much. The material is a spongey type of material. It is soft, smooth and lightweight and it has a water resistant barrier which ensures that the tan won't leak through and stain your skin. Using the mitt couldn't be easier - I just squirt out some fake tan onto the side with the foam pad and then apply it over my skin, using circular motions to blend it in. It is quick and easy and the end result is great - no streaks at all and it looks completely natural. The mitt is nice and soft against my skin - it doesn't irritate it at all nor does it pull on the skin when I'm using it. It is much more practical than using my hands and it is easy to clean too - I just let mine soak in some hot, soapy water and scrub it down with an old toothbrush to get all traces of the tan off and then let it dry. It takes around a day to dry completely and after using mine around five times it isn't grubby or stained. While I do recommend this there are cheaper, just as good alternatives and due to this I've knocked one star off.
~ St Tropez Applicator Mitt ~ I will totally admit to being a fake tan junkie! I love the stuff and look and feel ill without it so I was absolutley delighted last month when I received a bottle of St Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Mousse and a St Tropez Applicator Mitt in the post after I won a competition! I have used St Tropez in the past and have used mitts in the past but I had never used a St Tropez Applicator Mitt. It came nicely packaged in a frosted yet see through plastic pack which had the St Tropez logo running down the side. Through the bag you could see the mitt inside which was black on one side and a creamy colour on the other. Taking it out of it's pack there is no way of telling now that is a St Tropez Mitt as there is no logo or anything on it, it's simply a black Lycra material on the one side with the other being a creamy coloured foamy sponge type material. I was pleased to see that looking inside the mitt the foamy side was backed with a plastic skin, I knew then that I wouldn't end up with the tell tale tango coloured palms! The Lycra side stretches nicely so that my hand felt snug inside and that the mitt wouldn't be moving around (unlike a cheaper mitt I own!). You use the foamy side which is slightly furry to apply the fake tan mousse. You simply pump out the mousse onto the mitt and start applying it. I started with my legs and was pleased to see that the mitt allowed great coverage of the mousse. Moving up to my arms and body again I was pleased to see no streaks appearing. The mitt allows the mousse to glide on easily and gives a nice even coverage. In the morning when I had showered I was very pleased to see a nice even tan with no streaks at all. I have used this mitt a few times now and whilst it does perform like any other mitt I felt it offered a better fit than some of the cheaper mitts I have purchased in the past. To clean it I simply hand wash it in the sink with a warm water and a little washing powder and leave it to dry naturally (not in the dryer like everything else!). But even washing it doesn't actually get rid of all the colour so my mitt is now a browny colour. But I expected this as even in the washing machine they still don't come out clean. I do think using a mitt does help quite a lot when applying fake tan (a mitt or an inside out sports sock!), it helps give a more even finish than when you simply rub it on with your hands and as a plus they also stop you having orange palms! As I have said I won this in a competition so did not pay anything but these can be bought for about £3. Thanks for reading :o) x
You'd be a sinner if you used hands for fake tanning. Orange hands isn't a good look for anyone, let alone if you're trying to pull of a natural sun-kissed tan! I have used various tanning applicators in the last couple of years including gloves, mitts and sprays. Mitts are my favourite by a mile, especially the St Tropez one. Normally, I am a bit curious to purchase mitts as a few I've owned before (such as Primarks £2 mitt) have soaked up most of the tan and turn mouldy quite quickly. I found the St Tropez mitt on Amazon not long ago and due to the brand being so amazing I couldn't resist trying it out. The mitt is pretty basic - but it doesn't need to be anything more because after all its only a tanning mitt! The inside of the glove is a smooth material so it doesn't scratch your hand and the tanning product doesn't seep through onto your hand. You can feel a little moisture but nothing more, it just leaves your hand dry and non-orange. Outside of the glove is a sort of spongey material, it doesn't soak up the tan too much and it allows the tan to sit on the mitt to be easily applied. The glove is quite a good size, I find that because I've got small hands it does slip about a bit and I sometimes find it awkward to get a good grip - but if you've got normal sized hands you will probably be fine, I just have super tiny child sized hands! The mitt cost me £4 excluding postage and I am aware that you can buy it from Boots and Superdrug too if you're wanting to buy it from the high street. Most places that stock St Tropez tan will have this too because obviously you need a good applicator to make your tan look gorgeous and not streaky! When applying your tan with the mitt, you simply need to use circular motions and make sure you rub it in well. If you use a tan which comes out of the bottle darker its much easier to see where you're tan is going well and where it isn't. I like that the mitt allows you to easily rub in the tan without it going streaky or dragging on your skin. I actually might invest in another mitt so I can use both hands to rub in my tan because one makes my arm ache (weakling). The mitt can be easily washed by using some warm soapy water. You will need to scrub it a little to remove the deep set in tan, but it does all come out. Obviously it stains due to being a tanning product but it should come up pretty clean and not feel like its still got tan on it. This tanning mitt is the perfect essential to anyone who tans, whether its on a regular basis or not The downside with this product will have to be that I have small - medium hands and tend to find that if I'm not careful enough the mitt tends to fall off whilst applying the tan, which can cause an inconvenience. To improve I think they could provide three different sizes (small, medium and large) so people will smaller hands don't have trouble with the mitt falling off. Overall a lovely product! Blends tanning product in well, leaving beautiful even glowing skin and best of all clean hands all for a very good price! I've rated it down a star because of what I mentioned about my hand slipping around and it being slightly awkward.
When it comes to fake tan, I'm a self confessed addict! I absolutely love fake tan. I've tried a lot of tanning mitts, sponges and even cotton wool to apply my fake tan, not afraid to say I prefer to use my hands.. even if I don't tend to get all the product off and my hands become orange! Just simply because I'm not wasting any of the product being soaked up by the mitt and is just more convenient for me. Odd I know! The mitt is pretty much like a plain black glove made out of thin material on one side and velvet on the opposite side. It feels really soft against your skin, very silky. I believe it is made to fit all hand sizes as its quite a large mitt 9 inches long and 7 inches wide, so perfect for people with larger hands. When you first use the product, there is quite a synthetic smell to it but after the first use, the smell fades pretty quickly. As I've never been a big fan of any kind of applicator for fake tan, I was reluctant to purchase this product but as it was such a good deal at only £4 I just had to give it a try seeing as I use 'St Tropez Tanning Mousse' on a weekly basis. I was very surprised at how even and streak free my tan was, the colour looked more natural and my skin glowed and a massive bonus no tell tale orange hands! The mitt is very easy to use, and apply the mousse extremely well to my skin not leaving any patches and blending the colour in perfectly. When you apply your fake tan, you can apply the mousse or lotion straight onto the mitt and gently rub into your skin using circular motions. You will find that the during the first application that the mitt will soak up most of the tan, but the more you use it the less this will occur. Remember after removing the mitt to apply fake tan to the tops of your hands otherwise you will get tan lines around your wrist area. I purchased this product off the official St Tropez website for about £4 which I think is a very good price for the quality of the product, and also for St Tropez themselves as there products are always quite expensive, so I was very pleased about the price. You should be able to purchase this product from Super-drug and Boots. I have not seen it in any supermarkets, in which case your best bet will definitely be either drug stores or purchasing online. The downside with this product will have to be that I have small - medium hands and tend to find that if I'm not careful enough the mitt tends to fall off whilst applying the tan, which can cause an inconvenience. To improve I think they could provide three different sizes (small, medium and large) so people will smaller hands don't have trouble with the mitt falling off. Overall a lovely product! Blends tanning product in well, leaving beautiful even glowing skin and best of all clean hands all for a very good price!
Now, looking at the RRP of this I would never buy it myself!(4.00!) But I was bought a St Tropez "Ultimate Bronze" set for christmas last year with this in it and i think its a really good idea. The mitt is two sided, with a spongey side and a material side, obviously you use the spongey side to apply the fake tan. I do feel that the spongey side could be a bit thicker as it is quite flimsey... and this gives it a very limited lifespan. Now, after you have fake tanned often you have orange hands but this mitt obviously stops the problem, however the mitt gets stained orange, so i suggest that after you have used it the next time you have a shower that you just pop it in the bottom and this helps it keep quite clean. Another thing i have found is that you can buy a better mitt from Superdrugs own range for about half the price of the St Tropez one, it has better quality material and obviously at half the price it is worth getting! Or at least having a little shop around. Its also good for applying moisturiser, and brill idea to use a old one to wash the dog with! Overall its a reasonable product, but shop around for alternitives ( Like rubber gloves or a cheaper version of this!) As they don't last terriblely long!
I received the St Tropez Applicator Mitt in a St Tropez set that I was bought as a gift for Christmas. I probably would not have gone out and bought this product alone but as I had it in my cupboard decided to give it a go. I am a big fan of fake tan products, but find it horrendous to get off your hands and always seem to have super tanned hands after applying my tan. I often use disposable rubber gloves, but this applicator mitt seems to be the eco-friendly solution to masses of rubber gloves. The mitt is about £3-£4 and is very thin black lycra on one side and a thicker spongey material on the other side which is beige in colour. You put your hand in between the two layers and begin to apply fake tan to yourself. The mitt is very flexible and doesn't feel too thick when you are manoeuvring which is a positive thing as your hands play an important role in applying tan. You can still feel what you are doing through the sponge which is a good thing. The lycra side of the mitt feels quite flimsy to me and personally I think it should have been a bit thicker material than it currently is. The mitt itself is quite big, so no matter how large your hands are you will fit them in, however I only have small hands and find that the mitt can be too large sometimes, they should do a range of sizes so that you have better control over applying your tan. Alternatively they could make a glove shaped sponge applicator which would be brilliant! Overall I prefer the option of disposable gloves as I think they are more flexible and easier to apply tan with than this mitt. I think the mitt is slightly too bulky for me to manoeuvre in the best way to avoid streaks. If you don't have another option for keeping your hands orange-free then this is good value product, otherwise just user disposable rubber gloves (sorry planet earth).
In my time on DooYoo I've written quite a few reviews about fake tanning products, mainly because I am somewhat addicted to them and can't stand being pale! For any of those that use fake tan products you'll know there are a couple of problems that you can encounter, the main two being an orange streaky tan and dirty looking palms from application of the fake tan. Due to my in depth research and testing of fake tan products I think I've pretty much overcome the first problem but the second one does still prove a problem... even as I sit here writing this review my palms are distinctly browner that the rest of my body! The main reason for this is that I've left my St Tropez Applicator Mitt at my friend's house and so last night I had to fake tan without any protection at all! For Christmas I was lucky enough to receive a St Tropez Applicator Mitt, not that I was very impressed when I first opened it as I was expecting something far more exciting! It comes in a plastic zip style bag which looks quite plain apart from the St Tropez logo and product name being imprinted. It's basically a black mitten style glove; it doesn't have finger holes meaning that one size really does fit all. In fact it looks a little like a tea cosy in many ways! It smells quite synthetic when you first come to use it and feels quite soft. It's made from a thin material which is a bit like a gauze net on one side and quite velvet like on the other side. It's about ten inches in terms of length and about seven inches in terms of width meaning that all hand sizes will fit into it quite easily. When you come to apply your fake tan you simply need to put your hand into the mitt and then apply the fake tan directly onto the mitt. The first time you'll do this you'll find the mitt absorbs quite a lot of the fake tan but after that it's fine. You then simply apply the fake tan as you normally would, I tend to use a lotion and so rub it into my skin using even strokes. The mitt has a water resistant barrier which means that your fingers will remain unstained and your palms won't show any tell tale signs of fake tanning. The fake tan itself glides on and I personally think that the mitt results in a more even coverage, if you sweep it over your skin using the velvet side you'll find it gently smoothes the fake tan in and reduces the chances of any unwanted streaks or anything like that. Once you've finished fake tanning you can take off the mitt and apply a little fake tan to your hands, you don't want them remaining milk bottle white as that's another tell tale sign that you've been tanning (but worn gloves)! The directions suggest you wash the mitt in warm soapy water and then let it dry, this is quite a quick process and you'll find the mitt dries quickly and looks like new. I've had my mitt since Christmas and tend to use it once or twice a week, in that time it's not lost its shape or anything like that. I think it's a good job it's black as otherwise the fake tan might start to stain it a dark brown colour. You do need to make sure you let it dry thoroughly before putting it away as once when I forgot it did smell slightly damp and a bit off putting when I came to use it. The only downside I can see is that as the mitt is quite big on my hand it does tend to slip and slide around a bit, it's also come off once or twice when I've been fake tanning my legs. It's a shame the end of it isn't elasticated as this would grip it to your wrist but I've taken to using an elastic band to keep it on! My mum bought my St Tropez Applicator Mitt from Look Fantastic where it's priced at £3.50, this seems to be quite a standard price for purchasing it off the internet although Feel Unique offers it for £2.75 if you're looking to make a saving. I have looked for it in Boots and on their website but haven't had any luck so it may be that you can only buy this online. I'd certainly recommend investing in one, especially if you're an avid fake tanner like me... no more brown palms! Thanks for reading.
