When it combs I have a fair few in my collection. For styling my hair, the most often I use this one and again I have a few few pintail combs in my collection a few of which I have written about in the past on this very website!
This one I came across in a local independent store and I have owned ot over a year now so I have had plenty of experience using this one and at time I bought it, it cost me £1.99 and I bought it only because I had mislaid my other, at the time usual comb!
To look at my comb is incredibly simple to look at. The most part of it are the teeth which are made from dark grey plastic and those teeth are tight together and on the top of that I am told that it is Starflite No 43 By Dupont and those teeth are not very flexible and then you get the very thin handle.
It measures 215mm so it is a long comb this and the plastic is heat resistant meaning it can be used with heated appliances of course.
This for me is a styling comb in the main due to its skinny handle which isn't the most comfortable to handle however it is detangling enough and the idea of it is that you can pull pieces of hair down and the likes with the base of the handle as well as use the comb to style the hair.
This is a great comb for me to use when styling my hair into up do's and I want wisps of hair going on! For the price I paid I think this is a fabulous comb and one that gets the thumbs up from me particulary for us with longer hair!
When I started training as a hairdresser, I had to purchase a kit to use during my training. This comprises of various brushes, combs, clips etc and one of these items is is the Starflite Pintail Comb.
A pintail comb has a long, metal "tail" to it, and is called a pintail because of this. If the tail section is made of plastic, this is just known as a tail comb. The purpose of a pintail comb is to enable you to make perfectly neat sections in the hair, easily and quickly, so that you can do your job with ease and as little hassle as possible.
The tooth section of the comb is made from a toughened plastic, and is gray in colour. The words Starflite are imprinted down the side of this section in white. The teeth are quite strong, and are hard to bend or snap, so you know that they will hold up to a good bit of work. The slogan from the company is that it is practically indestrucible, so you will never need another comb.
I have proven this slogan and theory to be untrue. I am now on my second Starflite pintail comb, as the first one became bent and twisted during the removal of hair glue. It didn't break as such, but the teeth are not in the correct places any more and do not run through the hair as smoothly as they need to. I have used pintail combs before that snapped in half during the removal of hair glue, so this one has stood up well, just not quite well enough.
For ordinary, every day jobs like combing, seperating and sectioning, the Starflite tail comb does its job perfectly. The smooth metal of the tail makes it so easy to make straight, clean sections, and you have no idea how much this makes my job quicker and easier when doing someones hair.
The comb is easy to clean, and it stores away nicely too. I bought mine (and my replacement one) from a suppliers called Capital Hair and Beauty (www.capitalhairandbeauty.co.uk) for 99p. I think this is a total bargain, and I have used ones that cost more which didn't last as well, so the price really is worth it.
If you look around online you can buy these in other places, but they usually cost more.
I 100% recommend the Starflite Pintail Comb, it really does its job well, and it can stand up to most jobs it is needed to do. I am giving this a 5 out of 5 stars.
