An affordable hair scrunchie from Superdrug

Whilst my hair is long and thick, I cannot bear wearing it down especially when I'm in the office or working in the garden. As a consequence, I favour securing it into a ponytail, which I wear just below my crown to enable my hair to cascade down my back. However, as I am in my mid forties it would be inappropriate for me to wear anything too bright or sparkling as I fear I would look like mutton dressed up as lamb, so I prefer a plain black scrunchie. I've been through heaps of the things in my lifetime; many of which would stretch after a short period of time or the elastic would snap and when I spotted those belonging to Superdrug I decided to give them a try.

When looking up the item on the Superdrug website in order for me to make my product suggestion to Dooyoo, I was surprised that the item is listed as "Superdrug Scrunchie Black", particularly as they are sold as a pack of two. The twin pack of scrunchies are presented on a plastic tag and offer the appearance of good quality unlike those that are sold in Poundland, which display ugly lengths of cotton hanging from the seams.

Whilst there are no labels attached to the scrunchies to inform us of the fabric used, they are extremely soft to the touch and I am able to feel a sufficient width of elastic, which gives the distinct impression that they are strong. I favour the fact that the fabric is stretchy, so I felt assured that the scrunchie would be easy to use and sufficiently secure my hair style.

An issue I have found with a few brands of scrunchies is that as my hair is thick, two twists of the scrunchie would be too loose with three being impossible. However, I need to twist only twice with the elastic offering enough give and due to the texture of the fabric the scrunchie securely holds my hair style without slipping. I have purchased other scrunchies in the past, which loosen their grip during the day, but I cannot speak of any similar issues with those sold by Superdrug.

As the fabric is soft, the scrunchie does not stick up in the air whilst being worn and as a result, offers a smooth and stylish appearance. Despite repeatedly using the two scrunchies contained in the pack for the past few months, both have remained perfectly intact without any hems becoming undone or the elastic weakening. They wash well in the washing machine on a 40° wash and dry extremely quickly at room temperature.

I am more than happy with my purchase and as a result, I bought a further two packs in case Superdrug ever decide to discontinue them. I can highly recommend these scrunchies, which are only available in black and you can make a purchase either instore or online for just £2.09.

I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.
