The Body Shop Hairbrush
Advantages: handy small size, good quailty
Disadvantages: not a styling brush if that's what you're after
I've had this little mini hairbrush from The Body Shop for a couple of years now. I travel quite a lot for both work and pleasure, and the only reason I actually bought this little brush was because I realised whilst wandering round the airport waiting to board my plane that I'd forgotten to pack my hairbrush. A quick look around The Body Shop branch in the airport, and I was now the proud owner of this little mini hairbrush. I'm think that I paid around £3 for it a couple of years ago, a quick look on The Body Shop website tells me that they now retail for £4.
I actually only chose the mini hairbrush for two reasons; primarily because it was the cheapest hairbrush in the shop - as I already did/do own a couple of very expensive hairbrushes that I've bought from the hairdressers, and secondly as it's so small so I figured if it was any good then I'd bring it with me when travelling - I very often travel with carry on luggage only and when I'm travelling with just carry on every little bit of space saved helps!
My mini hairbrush looks exactly the same as the Dooyoo picture above, apart from one small detail; the cushioned part of my mini hairbrush is black not white. It's a little wooden hairbrush that's kind of miniature, it looks like a child's hairbrush actually with its mini brush head and mini handle.
I actually find it easier and very comfortable to just hold the brush in the palm of my hand and brush my hair that way rather than using the small handle. It's actually really easy to grip it that way and it's very comfortable to use and brush through my hair. I only actually use my brush on dry hair as I prefer to use a detangling comb on wet hair.
The little plastic bristles on the brush have the little round plastic bobbles on the ends to ensure that the bristles don't scratch your scalp. Sometimes with cheaper hairbrushes the bobbles come off over time, leaving a sharp point to scratch your scalp - none of the bobbles on my little brush have come come off, and to honest don't look like they ever will. The little bobbles are comfortable against my scalp and have never scratched or irritated it. When I'm brushing my hair the bobbles do have a slight massaging effect on my scalp which is quite nice. The cushioned part of the brush head ensures that you get a gentle rather than a harsh hairbrushing. I bought this mini hairbrush when I had a chin length bob, I've now got slightly longer than shoulder length hair and it's been fine for both lengths.
I've been really impressed with this little brush, it works just as well as my more expensive hairbrushes for literally just brushing my hair - it's certainly not a 'styling' hairbrush if that's what you're after. I always take this for travelling now as it's so small and compact, and to honest more often than not I actually reach for this one first to brush my hair at home as well. There's nothing at all wrong with with my mini hairbrush after a couple of years, and it looks like it will probably last for a couple more too. It's been used and abused and it's still going strong, it's been coated in all sorts of styling products and it hasn't suffered at all. I do just give it a wash in some warm water with a little bit of shampoo once a month to keep it clean. I'd definitely recommend it, it's good quality and it works well, and it's handy for travelling or just popping in your handbag.
