Advantages: Perfectly aligned to grab the smallest of hairs - true precision
Disadvantages: Quite pricey; sharpening service only available in the US
I must confess to a little guilty obsession here: I love to pluck. I pluck on the sofa, I pluck in the bathroom, I pluck in the bedroom, I am obsessive about plucking my eyebrows and will do it whenever I have a spare minute. I find it a frustrating but theraputic task tweezing out every single last hair. And everyone knows the difference that tweezing your eyebrows can make to your face. We've all seen the pictures of the now gorgeous celebrities before they discovered tweezers (Julia Roberts anyone?)
Given my obsession, I have seriously plucked my eyebrows and I need a really good pair of tweezers to cope with my tweezing demands. My past pairs of tweezers have all blunted really quickly and I was on the lookout for a really good pair and the Tweezerman brand was recommended to me by the make-up counter lady in Boots. Apparently "all the hollywood celebs use them!" and, despite the fact that they were £16 (my mouth gaped insanely at this price!), she convinced me to buy them when she told me that they come with a lifetime guarantee and Tweezerman offer a free sharpening service.
So home I wandered with my exciting new purchase, only to find that to use the free sharpening service, you have to pay to send the tweezers to New York! And the so called 'lifetime guarantee' only applies if there is a manufacturing defect, although they do replace damaged/dropped tools at half price - how much manufacturing can go wrong with a pair of tweezers?
So anyway, now my whinging is out of the way, I can tell you about how good this product really is! £16 may seem like a lot to pay, but it really is worth it if you want that immaculate eyebrow look. I own the 'Slant Tweezer' which is described as being "Positively the finest general use tweezer in the world", which I thought seemed like a pretty brave comment to make until I tried them! Made from polished stainless steel and engraved with the Tweezerman logo, they have hand filed tips and are perfectly aligned to fit together without the slightest gap, ensuring that even those really stubborn thick hairs (you know, those really little ones that you spend ages just trying to grab hold of?) can be plucked out instantly!
They come in a smart faux velvet, royal purple (how classy!) box and the tweezers themselves are made of stainless silver and are thicker than normal tweezers, making them easier to grasp hold of.
Tweezerman offer a wide variety of different styles of tweezers including wide-grip tweezers for the more clumsy among us, point tweezers for incredible prescision, and tweezerettes to fit in your purse- they're cheaper as well (they do a really cool hot pink pair too which I also own) all of which can be seen on their website www.tweezerman.com
The website also offers an online ordering service and gives tips on tweezing methods (so even if you don't want to splash out £16, it's still worth a look!)
Tweezerman tweezers are avaliable in House of Fraser stores and Boots stores (even the small ones!)
Summary: The best pair of tweezers you'll ever own
