Advantages: Precise, high quality
Disadvantages: Price, misleading 'free sharpening'
I normally always keep tweezers in the same place so I don't constantly lose them, but in my travelling all over the country in recent months I seem to have lost them somewhere! I have a very cheap spare pair, but they aren't as good as the ones I got from Boots, so off I went in search of some more.
Unfortunately Boots' own brands had sold out, so my only option was a pair of Tweezerman tweezers. They were a name I'd heard of before, and there was plenty of choice - perhaps not surprising considering the £18+ price tags!
My boyfriend was horrified that I was about to spend so much money on a pair of tweezers, but I pointed out that it was actually an investment; they are quicker and easier to use than cheaper versions (and less painful). Also, my last pair of tweezers lasted me several years - and £18 over that time isn't bad.
I picked out a pair of Tweezerman slanted tweezers in a hot pink colour. They are available in several colours, and there are non-slanted versions as well. They were well packaging in plastic packaging and had a small plastic tip on the ends to protect them.
The plastic casing was very easy to open and didn't require scissors at all. The cardboard backing inside advises you can get free sharpening - but as you have to post them off to America, I don't think it can be technically classed as 'free' for us Brits! (And to be honest I'm not sure it's worth the hassle, especially if you look after your tweezers well).
The tweezers are actually quite small, and I have average-maybe-slightly-small hands for a woman. Definitely smaller than my old pair. This could be an advantage or a disadvantage depending on whether you prefer a more precise grip or want to save space in your makeup bag.
The finish on them is shiny, which makes them easier to clean than my old matte pair. The finish also looks like it's of a high standard, and is pretty thick paint or similar.
I found the tweezers easy to use. Quite honestly, they are better than those cheap silver ones which cost one or two pounds, but there is not much difference between Boots' own premium tweezers and Tweezerman in actual use. If you were buying them for someone else or you like a nice/pretty finish, then that would be the only reason to choose them. Also I felt that Tweezerman is a well-known and respected brand, and in my opinion these tweezers are excellent, but would be better priced around the £12 mark.
Summary: A good investment - but if you lose tweezers a lot, not worth it!
