      Greta buy

I bought one of these sets for my daughter just before she decided she wanted her bedroom redecorated, so the colours no longer match but she still loves having this duvet cover put on. I actually bought these on a deal of buy one get one half price so she has two of them now. I bought her the shocking pink and bright orange set, one side is a very bright orange and the other an equally dazzling pink. The pillow cases are the same bright colours and the quilt set is fastened with poppers. Although we have two sets, they do get changed regularly, we have to have a rotation cycle as having the two sets on, she doesn't want it to look like she never changes her duvet covers!! I am very pleased with these sets, although the full price I paid was £14.99 and I got the second set for half price, they have lasted very well. The colours are as bright and in your face as when they were brand new, they haven't faded at all. One set however, a few of the poppers at the bottom have come off one side, so they now have to be left open. This isn't a great problem and it is only one set that has done this, this may be down to overzealous ripping of the bottom to remove the duvet than any fault with the making of the duvet cover. They are soft and need very little ironing which is great, as that is my least favourite chore. They go through the machine no problems and do not run in colour, they also are great for hand washing which I do a lot. When I hang them out on the line, the creases drop right out, such a blessing! I know these come in other colours and I will defiantly be buying more in the future,

Great for people on a budget and people who don't like fussy patterns

Argos is one of my favourite places to look for new duvets as they are always decent quality at great prices. The majority of the designs they have on offer are fairly simple, often plain colours like this one. I have the pink and grey set that is currently what I am snuggled up in writing this review! I think it cost about £7.99 and that included two pillow cases (we bought two extra as I have four pillows but I can't remember how much it cost and we bought a matching pink bottom sheet). I would have preferred grey and blue but this was out of stock at the time. The duvet is reversible and you can either match the pillows or contrast them with the bottom sheet for a simple but interested look. The bottom is done up with suitably placed popper buttons that mean no white duvet poked through, the poppers are of good quality and have not fallen off or popped open. I have had this duvet for atleast three years so it has been washed a lot (I have quite a few duvets as I like to change them a lot!) but the colour has not been lost and it is still just as soft as the first time I bought it. You can tell it's worn as the material has that slightly furry softness to it without being bobbly if you know what I mean but I think this adds to the comfort! When washing for the first few times make sure you don't have any items mixed in that might take colour as I'm sure it'll most likely run for the first time but not as much because like I said it's kept it's colour. This a great, amazingly priced duvet from Argos and I will mostly likely be buying one in single size for uni!

      Disadvantages

Not a bad buy, especially at the moment with the price of them!

Recently I had to buy some new bedding as I had my parents come to stay with me. They won't come and sleep in my bed and let me take the sofa so they were being put up on my new, very large sofa bed. The least I could do though was to make them as comfortable as possible and I went out bought them new pillows, a new kingsize duvet and a couple of nice duvet sets to make them feel really cosy. On a budget though and watching my pennies and knowing that other then when other people sleep on my sofa bed that I have no need for a kingsize duvet set (mine is a double) I set about looking for nice looking, good quality but stull reasonably priced stuff and this is when I came across this range of bedding in Argos and in different colour options which are chocolate and teal, chocolate and blue, plum and cream, and black and cream and I opted for the Chocolate and Teal option to go with the fitted sheet I had already purchased in Argos. These sets come in single, double and kingsize, with the single coming with one pillowcase and the other two options with two pillowcases. This is made from 48% cotton and 52% polyester and has a slightly stiff feel to it at first that I didn't expect. It does get softer as it is washed however an over time thankfully. This is a reversible duvet set so in my case one side in a nice, deep chocolate brown colour and the other is a nice rich turquoise colour so of course you can mix and match it and have it any way you choose. It does up (and undoes) with plastic poppers to one end of it which is a simple task to do and the pillowcases, although standard fit over really nice, new plush and thick pillows and they are flap over style to keep the pillows nicely in place. These can be washed at 40c or lower, are suitable for tumble drying and ironing and I've had no fading or shrinking issues at all, thus far with this set and this set only cost me £7.99 (as its on offer at the moment) though you can buy other kingsize sets from this range in other colour options for a mere £6.99 and the double sets are generally about £6.99 and the single set at £4.99 (all on offer price wise at the moment). These offer good value for money and are a nice way of updating a bedroom without breaking the bank in my opinion though are not the best or sofest quality in the world do work out to be a little good buy! Only available in Argos stores or from Argos.com

a decent quality budget duvet set

Each time my oldest daughter decides she wants a different colour paint on her bedroom walls, it usually comes with a plea of new bedding to match her new colour scheme. The last time I was requested to change the bedding, I started looking around at Argos at their then deals on bedding. I picked ours up on a buy one get one free offer, but even a year or so later the prices are just as good, currently sitting at £7.99 for a double duvet set. The pack comes from the warehouse sealed in a plastic bag. There is nothing fancy about the packaging or the design on the duvet cover you will receive, but you can't expect too many frills for the price you will pay. Included in the set is a duvet cover and two pillow cases. Being marketed as a reversible duvet set, both the duvet cover and pillow cases show one colour on each side. The set is available in either brown and teal, brown and blue, plum and cream, and black and cream. We chose the brown and teal to match the current wall shades. Once you remove the set from the packaging for the first time I would suggest it goes through the washing machine before you use it. It comes out feeling quite starchy and rough, not a good feel for bedtime. The set is made from a mix of 48% cotton and 52% polyester. It doesn't give off a completely soft and cosy finish until it's been through the wash a few times and settled down to being out of packaging. The quality of the set however is very good considering the price you pay and the seams are finished well with no colour bleeds etc showing when you want one side to be prominent on the bed. Closing the duvet cover is completed with poppers rather than buttons. I think this is a nice easy way if not less secure way of closing a duvet cover than buttons. I have to give this duvet set full marks for the poppers as they have worked well over time and never pop open during use as I have known other sets to do. The pillow cases are a decent size and fit nicely on a standard sized pillow. They also stay in tact during use with the extra fabric lip securing the pillow in place nicely. Over time I always expect my duvet covers to fade in the wash especially when you have darker bold colours. I have been really pleased with the shade of chocolate brown on this cover as it appears to have stayed almost as new looking as when we bought it. Whilst this isn't the most luxurious duvet set you'll ever buy, it's a decent quality at a bargain price so if you're on a budget then this could be a really good choice when adding extras to your home.

A good quality way to update your bed linen that doesn't cost the earth to buy

My mother doesn't like me shopping at Argos for bed linen. Infact it has been a bone of contention for many years when my parents brought me up to think that buying quality means it will last for years on end. When I hear about the stories they tell me about how they scrimped and saved for years on their own household things in the 1950's and 1960's it made me realize that some household effects are well worth looking out for that needn't cost an arm and a leg! That's how I justify my bargain hunting when it comes to bed linen that lasts and if Argos is the method of high street "label" I find that's good value for money, then so be it! For many years Argos have been offering buyers the chance to buy one duvet cover and get one free. It makes a lot of sense if you are a student and have to provide your own bed linen at halls of residence or living in a flat that has passed down sheets that look as if they have been used for paint rags! Been there, done that one! When you're a student you don't really care what you get, as long as it may well be cheap to buy and possibly if it lasts, so you can spend your loan on much preferred conveniences like beer and chips! Argos however don't make the game plan easy as they have quite a few different duvet sets on offer and most of them are a mix of different fibres like this set has a mix of 50% polyester and 50% cotton. The difference is that I've had one set of this product for 5 years, constantly washed in a 40 degree wash cycle and still looks good as new. I lost a set in transit when I moved which meant I had to look out for a new duvet set in a different colour. I also have brown/cream duvet sets in single sizes I initially bought 7 years ago too. My experience of the set therefore made no question in my mind to seek out the latest colours on offer but I was disappointed to find that Argos are only selling one colour type this time as opposed to a rainbow of colours that they used to have back in 2005. At a cost of £14-99, it may be expensive at cost price but you also get a free double duvet cover thrown in for free. This also includes 2 pillowcase cover slips PER duvet, so even if you don't use the extra set, it's handy for the twice amount of pillow slips on offer if you need 2 pillows on each side of the double bed. The extra set is also handy for any guests you may need to accommodate too but the offer on the extra set is only valid until January 2011. Argos also sell matching bed sheets priced between £5-99 and £9-99 for mattress covers (elasticated) and are made of the same mix of fibre material. In use, the double duvet cover can actually accommodate any standard sized double duvet cover but it won't obviously accommodate king size double duvets. This is no bad thing on the basis that the 15.5 tog "high warmth" duvet I have on my bed all year around gives me substantial heat and the utility cover on top ensures warmth is sealed in. The comfort value of the actual cloth that Argos have sold here is starchy and stiff to start off with, so it makes a lot more sense to wash the duvet covers first before they are put onto a bed. If you don't, you just have a crispy set of sheets to put up with for a short period of time! The duvet sets can also be washed on the same 40 degree wash and are also tumble machine dryable. I must say that it only takes a matter of minutes for the sheets to dry against fibrous high quality sets that can take longer to dry in tumble driers too. One fantastic tip I can give you is to wash this duvet with a very high conditioner factor to soften the material. I initially used vinegar and tea tree oil (a brilliant tip from Dooyoo member, Lillamarta) to soften the cloth and the duvet cover came out much softer than using a standard fabric conditioner. I have also used my favourite oil of Jojoba Comfort fabric conditioner and this gives the cloth a much softer and luxurious feel. One better aspect of the duvet set is the latest colour. In this case it's a deep and almost chocolate brown colour that sits very closely to the product title. Past results from Argos in terms of their reversible sets like their dark black sets (the one I had) seemed to have a grey tinge to it (mine didn't) but I know friends who have been impressed who went out and bought the same one with different results. Here Argos have managed to pull off the colour scheme quite well even though the retro colours of brown and blue aqua may not be to all tastes. It certainly drives the point in that the colours of bedrooms nationally in the UK for the season change is cream or dark browns of the day, to which this duvet set will fit in perfectly! The duvet has popper badges that seal the duvet inside fairly well and with its reversible nature all stitching has been hidden thus offering a quality and practical look. If you're abusive with the duvet set you may well break the plastic seals on the end of the cover, but in the five years I've had the previous cover I never had that problem and I'm not expecting anything different with this chocolate/teal set either. The pillowcases fit standard pillows fairly well without any problems either. Despite some other owners comments on Argos' website relating to poor poppers on the end and colour changes with previously different coloured duvet sets, if there is one downside that I have found with this set and the previous one I had, it is loose threads. These are more evident when the cover is opened inside out and they have a way of travelling outside the cover sometimes when sleeping generally. It isn't off putting but it does remind you that you have bought a cheap duvet set once in a while! However I have never had broken poppers - maybe I'm just gentle with my sets - and you can buy stick on/iron on poppers anyway if such a problem arises eventually. All in all I wholly recommend the reversible chocolate/teal double duvet set. It is worth the money if you take up the offer of the extra set thrown in for free and without it, a fairly well made set with very few problems. The colours are vibrant and match most of the colours of the season. Last year it was black, black and black and this year its contrasting browns and creams. With the reversible nature, you can also lift your spirits to have a bright blue aqua lifting your senses in time for summer as well as creating a fun and enthusiastic air in your bedroom for kids or teenagers - or simply for yourself to boost a youthful view.
