Dreams 'n Drapes Oriental Flower Quilt Set
Advantages: pretty design, easy care fabric, easy to put on and take off
Disadvantages: easily marked, wear to pillowcases
I was looking for a quick and cheap way to update the style of my bedroom, and decided the simplest way to do this was to buy some new bedding. After browsing a little and deciding on some suitable options, I found this lovely looking set on Amazon. I wanted something decorative in an oriental sort of style but still feminine, and I loved the design and colour of this set. This Oriental Flower Quilt Set is available from Amazon at a really great price, and comes in a range of sizes. A Single sized set is RRP £18.00 with Amazon currrently selling at £12.65, a Double sized set is RRP £26.00 with Amazon currrently selling at £15.61, and a King sized set is RRP £33.00 with Amazon currrently selling at £19.45.
This Oriental Flower Quilt Set is made by Dreams 'n' Drapes, and the set that I have comprises of a double duvet cover and 2 matching pillow cases. It is only available in the one colour choice, which is a white background with a red floral design.
The fabric is made of a 48% cotton 52% polyester blend and this is a nice hardwearing fabric that can be machine washed. When I first unpacked the bedding set it looked crisp and clean and I was grateful to see that it was machine washable as I was a bit wary of having white bedding as it could require washing more frequently. The fabric is very easy care, and I have been machine washing it at 30 degrees on my normal eco wash program. It dries quickly outside on the washing line and does not crease easily so this makes it great for bedding as my quilt always gets crumpled up and moved about as I turn over and fidget a lot during a night's sleep. The duvet cover is secured by poppers at the bottom which makes it very easy to secure in place and they are quick to undo so that I can remove the cover easily before washing.
I really like the way that this duvet cover looks, as it has a simple yet bold design. I'm not usually keen on floral patterns but I liked the oriental look of these flowers, and it is very similar in style to a screen panel I have in my dining room that has a painting of plum blossoms on it. The floral design runs vertically across the lower section of the quilt cover and is continued on both sides, so you can use it either way up and there isn't a right side or a wrong side as such. This design is mirrored on the pillow cases, which are mainly white and the same floral design running down one side. I like that the flowers are placed onto branches as if they are growing, and this looks more natural than a more heavily decorated floral design. Even though the pattern is quite bold and striking it doesn't look to busy or overpowering and fits in nicely with the look in my bedroom. The white background helps it to match in with other items as white is an easy base colour to work with. I like to have two pillows and so the set underneath I cover in a very closely matching red pair of pillow cases, and this works really well to complete the look.
I've had this bedding set for several months now and it has received a lot of use and washes in this time. It has worn well considering the low price and how many times it has gone through the wash. The duvet cover itself still looks in perfect condition and is as good as new. The only problem I have with it is that the white colour is very easily marked and stain show up very clearly. The pillow cases have suffered some wear and tear already, and I can see that having white pillow cases was not an excellent idea for someone who is likely to end up with hair product / make up / hair dye stains on their pillow after a night's sleep. These stains are difficult to wash out and it's not practical for me to be having to wash the pillow cases so frequently, so I probably would have been better off with a more durable and darker coloured set of pillow cases, although I do really like the look of this set together.
Overall I am really pleased with this bedding set, mainly because I love the design of it and think that it looks great. It was a bargain price and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to redecorate or freshen up the style of their bedroom.
Summary: A stylish bedding set
