The 'Casablanca' bedding range comes in two colours; Champagne and Truffle. Stripping the fancy names away means that you can choose between light beige and dark beige.


The duvet's 'face' is a satin looking polyester, with a horizontal band of wavy pleats in the same colour and material close to the head of the cover. The pleated band design is embellished with three vertical rows of little diamante crystals. I like the plain material and the fact that the pattern is due to sewing techniques - the design is unfussy and elegant.

The polyester is silky and soft to the eye, but is actually fairly scratchy when I run my hands over it. The packaging boasts about the designs 200 count thread, I have no idea what that means or why it was worth printing on the packaging, but the material used feels thin and cool.


The underside of the duvet is 100% pure cotton, in a slightly lighter shade to the 'face'.

Having the underside made exclusively from cotton is not just nice and cooling on my skin, it's also great for allowing ventilation; The duvet this has replaced was made entirely from a polyester blend. Whilst pretty and silky to touch, it also trapped air and body heat under the covers, making for an uncomfortable night's sleep.

How does it wash?

For reference: The label says it can be washed in a 40 degree cycle, and if you use a tumble dryer you should turn the duvet inside out and use the coolest setting. Only iron the reverse of the duvet. I personally use a 30 degree wash and I air dry.


I suppose it was inevitable; I noticed that one little crystal fell off after the very first wash and one or two fall off every other wash now - and I always turn the duvet inside out when I wash it, to try to protect them from catching on anything.

It was also inevitable that the pleated design would start to lose definition, but I was surprised at just how quickly it started to look worn; Literally a few washes. Not only does the pattern start to lose shape and definition, but the threads begin to come lose and a few hang down after a month or so.

But for me the biggest turn off is how the face of the duvet began to show pulls in the fabric within the first few days of being used and without being washed. I'm not sure how this even happened; There wasn't ever anything except pillows and a book on my bed, I must have looked at it funny.

This bedding is made for show and not for practical use. Mine is still relatively new [about two months old], but it looks and feels as though I've had it for over a year, whilst in comparison my cheaper duvets that I have actually had for over a year have both managed to survive the horrid torture of 30 degree washes and air drying.

I had been browsing online for the pillowcases, but I'm so glad I didn't place an order. In fact if I hadn't bought the duvet in TJ Maxx for around 60% of the RRP I would have returned it after the first wash [and I very rarely return anything].


I've since read other customer reviews on the Kylie At Home bedding range and it seems as though my issues over the results after washing the duvet are pretty common. In fact some online retailers recommend dry cleaning this duvet - how practical... Oh well, I wasn't aware that I needed to research something as basic as bedding before purchase. Silly me.
