I was looking for a quick and cheap way to update the style of my bedroom, and decided the simplest way to do this was to buy some new bedding. After browsing a little and deciding on some suitable options, my boyfriend picked out this set. I wanted something decorative but not too feminine and this fit the bill perfectly. The Monaco Black duvet cover set is available from Amazon, and the RRP is a very reasonable £11.99.
The Monaco duvet cover set comprises of a double duvet cover and 2 matching pillow cases. The black design is actually more of a deep charcoal shade with white patterning and a black strip at the bottom.
The fabric is made of a 50% cotton 50% polyester blend and this is a nice hardwearing fabric that can be machine washed. When I first unpacked the bedding set I was a bit put off as it had a strong and unusual smell coming off it which was very noticeable, and I did worry about if it had been treated with any chemical fabric protectors. I put the set straight into the wash before putting it onto my bed and it seemed better after that so I carried on and have been using it since. The duvet cover is secured by buttons at the bottom, and although I find this a bit fiddly sometimes I am pleased that all the buttons have remained attached in place as this is often a weak point for cheaper goods.
I really like the way that this duvet cover looks, as it has a simple yet bold graphic design. On the front / main side of the duvet cover it is mainly charcoal grey with swirling rown of white polka dots running vertically from the top to the bottom of the cover. At the base of the cover there is a horizontal black stripe section which is also decroated with polka dots running in the opposite direction, which creates a fun and funky look from a very simple piece of detail. This design is mirrored on the pillow cases, which are also mainly grey and have a similar black stripe with swirling dots pattern running down one side. On the reverse side of the duvet cover it is just plain grey, so it's best to keep the top side on display to show off the pattern.
I've had this bedding set for two years now and it has received plenty of use. It has worn fairly well considering the price and how many times it has gone through the wash. The duvet cover itself still looks in good condition, apart from the colour fading. The main grey section has become duller and faded through repeatedly washing it, and it doesn't look quite as crisp and stylish as shown in the picture now that the cove has been worn in. The pillow cases have suffered a little wear and tear as they have more direct contact and there is some fading and bobbling to the fabric. I have even noticed that in one place there is a small hole where the fabric has worn right the way through. I have finally got round to purchasing some replacement bedding sets and this one is finally being put out of service after two years of use.
Overall I think that this is a stylish and nice looking bed set that is a real bargain. The design is monochrome so it would fit in with many styles of decoration and would also appeal to many people of all ages and gender. I'm very happy with it and think I got a great set for the price.
