I saw these on QVC several times and was tempted but the £150 plus postage put me off even with easy payments. Luckily, a few weeks later I was looking around our local Roy Castle Charity shop (they often sell brand new overstocks sent directly from QVC at knockdown prices) and I bought a king sized Northern Nights feather bed topper for £45 after unsealing and examining it carefully. NN only produce for QVC so if you look on their website there should be details of the sizes , prices and weights - unfortunately I did not keep the packaging - and they also offer a 30 day money back no quibble guarantee if you are not happy. It it also good to read the reviews on QVC before buying. Many years ago I bought one based on the above but the feathers were contained in stitched rows of 'tunnels' and, although it was lovely, I had to strip the bed each morning to re-disperse the filling which always seemed to reach the bottom as if the fairies had been pulling at it! The baffle design works much better and this item only needs a good shake once or maybe twice a week. It goes directly on top of the mattress and a standard fitted sheet fits well but I like the idea of buying the specially designed sheets with a gusset which are made for thick toppers. The feathers are thoroughly cleaned, then tumbled (QVC show you how in a short video clip) so they seem hygienic enough so they need to be speciality cleaned but the pleasure you have from curling up on this is difficult to describe. Personally I would have called it 'Heaven on the Bed' as it is so comfortable, warm and soft and you feel safe, cosy and cocooned - and best of all fully rested after a good night's sleep. I have a confession to make here - whenever we used to go to our caravan we had in Wales - I used to pack this as sleeping without it would have spoiled my stay. The only trouble is, in the winter mornings especially, it is even more difficult to drag myself from my baffled bed! `to be honest, although it states you can use it all year round, I only use it during the winter months as I get too warm in bed in the summer. I pop it into a vacuum-sealed pack and store in the airing cupboard otherwise it would be difficult to pack away because of the size and depth of thee
I have had my Northern Nights featherbed for a good few years now and I absoutely adore it. I never really thought it would make that much of a diference to my sleep at first - in fact the thought of getting bits of feather quills embedded in my body as I slept kind of put me off it a little. I'm glad I decided to give it a try. Northern Nights are a luxury bedding company who make premium quality bed products of the calibre you would expect in a top class hotel. I have only seen their products sold on QVC so far so I'm pretty sure they are the only UK stockists of it. The featherbed is filled with goose/duck feathers and down which have been hypercleaned to ensure that they are allergen free and won't cause irritation. These feathers are packed into specific areas or "baffle boxes" to stop them from moving around inside and to keep the featherbed evenly filled. Outside, the feathers are sealed inside a 300 thread count cotton cover. You place the featherbed on top of your mattress but underneath your sheets. It doesn't require a specific mattress for use or specific sheets - in fact the worse your mattress is then the bigger difference I think you will find. When you lie on this featherbed, your body sinks into it and it feels so luxurious. It supports your body whether you are a side or back sleeper and it feels so soft - like your lying on air. It doesn't make you feel too hot either as you might expect it to. I use it all year round and don't find that I am too hot in summer months as it helps to regulate your temperature. It is really cosy on cold nights though and it warms up to body temperature quicker than a mattress alone which is really lovely. These featherbeds aren't cheap - expect to pay around £150 depending on the size you require (single, double, king, superking) but they are well worth the money. Plus with QVC you can try it for 30 days and send it back if you don't like it! What have you got to lose? I can pretty much guarantee that most people will love this item and it will become a necessity for you like it has done for me!
I have had this amazing featherbed for the last three years and although they are a little expensive to buy, I haven't regretted my purchase for one second. Northern Nights is a product range that is sold by QVC. They are very high quality bedding products and are extremely well made. A featherbed goes on top of your matress and is generally much thicker than other matress toppers I have seen. They are made of 100% cotton cover filled with natural feathers. When I bought mine, there was a film about how the feathers were carefully washed to help get rid of the allergens that can be a problem with feathers for some people. The baffle box design means that the feathers don't move around as much because they are contained in the squares. This means less 'fluffing up' is required A featherbed increases the comfort of your bed by moulding to your body. I bought one because they said they helped with back problems because they shape themselves and support your back. I have found this to be the case with mine and it has definitely helped me to have a more comfortable night's sleep and less back problems during the day. They are also supportive if you have other problems where you need extra support (eg muscular issues). The featherbed does need fluffing up regularly to help keep its supportive nature. I can honestly say that these will make your bed the most comfortable place in the world! The only problem is that yoy may not want to get out of it in the morning...
