Anyone who reads my reviews on a regular basis will be aware of the fact that I am a huge fan of Tesco – food and home ware and I buy a great deal of stuff for the home from Tesco, both online and in store. Last October I bought a pair of fitted single sheets for my daughter’s bed as at £4.50 each they looked to be very good value for money. I have bought the Tesco Basic fitted bed sheets before, and I am afraid to say that they were really terrible. Those were thin and didn’t fit our mattresses very well at all but as these ons were NOT the basic type, I was sure they would be much better quality.
These sheets are sold individually and are available either in the store or on line. There are always plenty on sale and they always seem to be well stocked. They fit my daughter’s mattress really well and in fact the packaging states that unless your mattress is deeper than 25cm then they will fit! Our double mattress, however, is from Ikea and Ikea mattresses are ever so deep so I know I won’t bother buying one for own mattress.
The thing I love about these sheets is that they are so easy to put on and they is no more huffing and puffing every week as I struggle to pull each end down and try to get a good fit. They are neither too large or too small – they are simply a nice snug (and therefore comfortable) fit. They are a mix of cotton and polyester and I wash mine at 60% although the label says that 40% is the recommended maximum heat.
They have retained their crisp whiteness and they are stitched securely and the elastic fits well even tough now they have many washes. Overall, I cannot fault them at all. They are well worth the price and I highly recommend them.
I only buy 100% cotton bedding as I think it is so much nicer than man made fibres. Last year I replaced several of my sheets as they had become thin and worn. In the past I have bought most of my sheets from Marks and Spencer’s but felt there prices were too high. I decided to check out what was on offer in my local Tesco and was pleased to find some cotton, fitted single sheets for just £8.
To be honest I wasn’t expecting much for the low price I paid and so was pleasantly surprised by the quality. The sheets have a thread count of 180-300 and although they are not as thick as my previous ones, they are of reasonably thickness. I use a mattress protector on my beds and this helps to pad the mattress.
I like using fitted sheets, especially on my son’s bed as he is a restless sleeper and unfitted sheets always come away from the mattress. The fit of the sheet is perfect for his single bed and it stays put. I have washed the sheets numerous times and they really do wash well and show no signs of wear.
I see from the Tesco web site that this single sheet is available in several colour choices including black, white, silver and cream. When I bought mine I seem to remember there was only cream and white on offer in store. I opted for white to coordinate with my duvet covers.
Overall I would definitely recommend these sheets. They are excellent value for money, wash well and are comfortable to sleep on.
I recently moved house and because I needed to buy everything I didn't want to spend too much money on the essentials. I had already bought quite a lot of items from tesco and had found them to be good value and quality, hence I decided to buy the sheets for the single beds from here.
The sheets are available online t www.tesco.com and also in tesco stores. The online option is great if you have a tesco store close to you as delivery is free even to smaller stores and delivery is usually within a couple of days.
I initially bought two sheets the same and given that they cost £4.50 each worked on the principle that even if they proved to be rubbish then I hadn't wasted a small fortune!
I wanted white sheets which was fairly handy for me as I believe they are available only in white. This is a fitted sheet which is made from a mix of cotton and polyester and for anyone who understands, it has a thread count of 144 ( means nothing to me!) When I took it out of the packaging it didn't feel overly thin and didn't have that almost see through look some sheets can have when held up to the light.
The main test for me with fitted sheets is if they actually fit without me having a huge struggle to get them on. In this case they are the perfect fit for a standard single bed mattress and I don't have a huge fight on my hands every time I change the sheets. The fitted part at the corners fits snugly although something to remember is that they are suitable for mattresses up to a height of 25 cm; I assume that anything bigger than this and they won't stay in place. On our mattresses they are the perfect fit and even between changes don't start to ride off the corners.
The sheets are machine washable and can also be tumble dried. I haven't noticed any shrinkage and even after a few months and lots of washes there is no bobbling or noticeable wear on the fabric. The elastic on the corners hasn't gone loose and they still fit perfectly.
The sheets are great value. They feel comfortable on the skin and keep their shape and still look as new.
Bargain sheets, and recommended
