My boys are getting that bit bigger now, and we wanted to move them into bigger beds. My youngest in particular was not happy at giving up his little tykes fire engine bed, so we wanted a little bit of something that would help the process along, so I bought them a new set of character bedding each, to match, so that they both felt really grown up.
Ben 10 is a fairly recent interest because they have an older cousin they want to be like, so they copy what he is interested in. I came across this bed set on Amazon, and I liked the look of it with there being a lot of blue in the set (which would match the colour scheme in their room) but it also predominantly featuring a few of the characters from the Alien Force series. I have seen the same bed set in Tesco as well, similarly priced at around £12 per set.
This is not cheap, but is about average for the cost of a decent character bed set, which consists of a pillow case and duvet cover. Now this bugs me, as what I would really like, is for them to include a bottom sheet too, to save you having to find a co-ordinating coloured sheet elsewhere. I did find a nice green one at Asda, but it is not the same green, and this does irk me a bit.
On opening the set, while pleased with the picture design, I am severely unimpressed with the style of the duvet on two counts. Firstly the duvet cover is bigger than the other standard duvet sets we have, so that when you get the duvet in there, you find that you are constantly having to adjust the duvet as it gets twisted up inside the cover. It is about an inch too wide, and getting on for 3 inches too long. To compound this, the material it is made from is very thin and 'slidy' too, so I have had many a frustrating battle with the duvet while trying to tuck the boys in at night. I'm not sure why, as it seems to be some sort of cotton type mix, and I have looked to see if there was a label on the sheet, but nothing. I wonder if there was something on the original outer packaging.
The boys are always saying to me can you please sort my covers out, which they don't do on days when other sets are on the bed, so it does make them less independent, and causes me a lot more work remaking the bed every day.
I am just glad I have not got them on bunk beds, or I would be even more annoyed if you added height in to the energetic bed time routine.
I have also found that the dye has washed out a lot on this set. I knew it might with the colours being so dark and vibrant, so I washed them seperately to other clothes, but I was a bit shocked when on the first run through the wash, they looked really quite old. There were white lines like cracks running through the darker sections of the characters.
Overall, I really wish I hadn't bothered with these. It is the first set I have ever had such trouble with, and if I had not bought them quite a while before giving them to the kids, I would have returned them, as in my opinion, they don't really suit the purpose. If the kids didn't like them so much, they would be languishing in the bottom of the drawer, as I would not choose to put it on their bed and do battle with it. I find it a relief the inbetween week when we can use the other thicker cotton sets.
My advice with this set is please save your sanity and don't bother with it.
