“ Type: Stot & Porter „
I make an effort to buy a different alcoholic drink every time I do my weekly shop and about three years ago I came across this.
In a small brown glass bottle this looks like a very unassuming drink. Boring almost. The brown label is far from exciting, with white writing and a small red dragon as the logo. It was 99p for a 284ml bottle so it is also very very cheap. The price has varied over time but not by much, the most I've ever seen it on sale for is £1.25. The ABV (alcohol by volume) is %7.5 which makes it quite a potent liquid. Nice and strong.
This is brewed in Jamaica by Red Stripe so it is of a very high quality. It has a really smooth texture, tasting sweet and slightly bitter at the same time, after all, it is a stout. There is a faint taste of chocolate which is weird but works well. It has a really pleasant after-taste that seemed vaguley familiar to me but I still can't place it, three years after drinking it regularly. The liquid is a really dark brown colour with a strange reddish tint if you look at it in the right light. The foam head is quite light and not too frothy. It clears quickly enough anyway. This is a truly beautiful drink. I wouldn't recommend drinking more than two of these in a sitting as it can be quite sickly and overpowering if consumed too quickly.
My only complain regarding Dragon Stout is that I have never ever seen it on sale in any pubs/bars/clubs. This is purely a drink to enjoy at home, apparently. It is a perfect drink for a hot summers day as it has that sweet taste but I would love to be able to enjoy it in a pub beer garden. One can only hope!
