On my mission to try and sample as many Gales beers in the Robin Hood last night I brought this beer on the recommendation of a friend - he said he preferred it to HSB, high praise indeed. I should point out that first opinions were somewhat diappointing as I'd been drinking the far stronger Festival beforehand. So I came back from the Mens to find that a friend had rather nicely gone and brought me a pint of the next beer I was waiting to try. I have to say that my first impression was not that good, I felt that it tasted rather watery but this happens a lot with various beers that I try. Butser is Gales session beer. Named after the hill which overlooks the brewery Butser is a tamer drink than HSB, its big strong brother. This is a lovely beer to drink out in the beer garden on a warm summer's day. It has a nice refreshing taste and won't get you too tipsy. Unfortunately, like all Gales beers it never goes too far from the brewery so you might have trouble finding it in your area.
