Stella Artois Cidre
Advantages: A pleasantly refreshing alcoholic alternative to apple juice!
Disadvantages: Whats that whole cider/ cidre nonsense about? Hate the new Stella Chalice to drink out of!
I used to be a big cider drinker. Cider And Black used to be a favourite tipple of mine that I found very refreshing in the summer months and when I wasn't drinking that, I used to drink Snakebite And Black which, if some of you don't know, is a cider and lager mix very popular with students!
In recent years though, I have kind of put my cider days behind me...until now!
Stella Cidre is the latest offering from the Stella range that has previously only offered different variations on their Stella Artois. Their advertising campaign makes sure to point out that this is Cidre not Cider but the distinction is about as subtle as its difference in taste.
For this is a peculiar barrel of fermented apples, it is true! Though the traditional Cider taste is present, somehow this Cidre comes across as smoother, crisper, sharper than many of its competitors and has a personality all of its own! It is a truly original refreshing alcoholic beverage from a company that has, over many years, established itself a highly successful reputation.
And where Stella Artois has always carried a bit of a stigma (it is known by many people under the moniker of "Wife-Beater"), this drink has the potential to finally once and for all put that unsavoury rep back where it belongs beneath the table.
How is this different from all the other ciders out there other than the spelling of its name? I'll be honest I don't know and can't quite put my finger on it. But different it is and a very pleasant refreshing pint that I could drink for some time quite easily without realising I was getting puddled!
Currently available in off-licences and supermarkets all up and down the country, if you haven't tried this yet I probably would! It really is surprisingly good and a pleasant change from their lager during these hot summer days. (I say days and not months because we all know it can't last!)
Summary: Cider just got trendy again!
