Stella Artois Cidre
Advantages: Beautiful smooth taste, lovely apples
I've always been a cider drinker, there's nothing nicer on a warm summer day in a pub garden of an afternoon, supping a lovely pint of cold crisp cider. I even liked it as a child (on holiday once when I was a young teenager the lady of the guest house we were staying at gave us her homemade "apple Juice" to drink and it was only after quite a few glasses that my parents discovered it was alcoholic but by then, it was too late, I had a very bad headache the next morning!!)
Magners had always been my cider of choice until a friend introduced to this Stella Artois cidre last year as he knew I would like it, well, one taste and I was hooked. This "cidre" as they say, not cider, has an amazingly smooth taste to it. Often times ciders can be quite sharp and hard to drink but this goes down so smoothly and beautifully, it's a taste you want to enjoy again and again. Normally I can only drink two or three ciders in one sitting but I'm afraid to say I could drink many many more of these Stella Artois cidres and also not have much of a headache in the morning which is nice.
According to Stella, "Stella Artois Cidre is a premium crafted Belgium Cider made with hand picked apples, fermented to a 4.5% ABV for a distinctive, crisp, refreshing taste. Stella Artois Cidre is a luscious cider with full flavour of red apple and peachy, apricot hints, complimented in the background with a subtle flavour of spicy oranges and an almond flowery character. This gives it a clean, refreshing, crisp and sweet sour taste, with a woody pleasing finish.
Now, the best way to drink this cidre in my opinion is in a big pint glass, chilled and poured over lots of ice cubes so the cidre is lovely and cold and refreshing. It's got a lovely proper apple taste, there is nothing artificial about it. It refreshing and crisp and a cidre I will definitely continue to drink.
Cidre comes in nice glass bottles and I can find it now in the fridge section of most pubs that I go to which is nice. You can also purchase it for home drinking and I believe it comes in a can as well but don't quote me on that as I've only ever had it from a glass jar. Stella have definitely got it right with this cider, a lovely refreshing taste and a great quality product.
