Strongbow Cider Drink
I like to drink cider drinks every now and then, the most commonly found cider on tap in the pubs in the UK is Strongbow Cider which I will often buy - if they have no Magners!
Strongbow cider was launched in 1962 by H.P. Bulmer (yes that's the Mr Bulmer - which is a subsidiary of Heineken). The Cider is chiefly made in Hereford and is the world's leading cider seller having over 10 per cent of the global cider market, and its accounts for more than 20 per cent of all cider sold in the UK.
Strongbow comes in a quite striking packaging, being a black and gold overall colour on its bottles, cans and taps in the pubs. The Strongbow logo has a small man with a bow and arrow as its branding and is very recognisable.
Strongbow is a bright golden colour to look at - which comes from its high apple content. Strongbow contains a blend of bitter sweet cider and culinary apples, with 50 different varieties of apple used in the drink. The cider also contains apple concentrate and sugars with fermented yeast. The drink is quite tangy and silky tasting but not over appley - which I like. I much prefer the sharp cider drinks than flavoured varieties at the moment.
This is a dry cider drink, that I find very easy drinking when its served really cold and fresh. This is a very fizzy drink, especially from the cans and bottles - depending on where you drink it in the pub it can also be horribly flat and not nice at all. As soon as you pour the drink you can see the huge fizz content.
The alcohol content of this drink has changed over the years - it now stands at 5 % ABV. Pub prices vary considerably and a pack of 12 (440 ml) cans currently costs £8 at Tesco. A reasonably priced cider drink, however I do prefer Magners Original which is a little less harsh tasting.
Summary: Not the top of my cider shopping list - but not bad!
