As I mentioned at the beginning, it was founded in 1995 but there is an interesting little story about it. When the first batch was made and sent to the employees of Svyturys, their comments were very contradicting. Some found it bitter, some found it sweet, some wanted it thicker and some wanted it thinner. In the end the brewmasters produced exactly the same beer as the 2nd batch and the employees who were slightly fooled, decided that this was far superior to the first!...more

Lithuania has what to offer when we're talking about the beer, but Svytrys Ekstra is the best! All Svyturys production is the best in Lithuania (and in neighbour countries, i could say) but Ekstra is the most popular of all and it's easy to understand why. Mild, refershing taste, nice aroma - best on a hot summer day in the nature or city.

Svyturys Ekstra is probably my favourite of the Svyturys brand, started up in 1995 to become the flagship beer of Svyturys, it is the most common Lithuanian beer that can be found abroad and thank god for that! It pours a golden colour with a nice head that stays for a while but not forever, the taste is hoppy and it gets more malty towards the end of the beer. Even after drinking copious amounts of it, you can get off with a light hangover as long as you don't combine it with too much 999 (Lithuanian spirit) This lager is the very definition of lager for me, at 5.2% it's the finest (with the exception of some Czech beers) that I have ever drunk.
