“ Brand: Van Steenberge / Type: Ale „
Zlaty Hrad (Golden City) is a strong dark beer made in Poland but has a Slovakian name and recipe originally. It is made by the Van Pur brewery in the south east of the country, close to the Slovak border (Rzeszow).
The can is black with a golden part across the middle with the name written in a sort of medieval font. It all looks rather sinister and gloomy, when poured the beer is an amber colour and it has a large white frothy head but very little in the way of carbonation.
With 7.0% alcohol in it, I wasn't expecting a light taste and I didn't get one, it was a bit too sweet overall but did certainly attempt to balance it out and couldn't be described as sickly. There was nothing that particularly stood out about this beer but it's something I wouldn't mind drinking if offered - having reviewed certain dark beers later, I'm actually starting to go off them a bit!
