My oldest son is a keen cyclist covering many miles at weekends, sometimes over rough terrain. I think it is really important that he always wears a helmet. This was a struggle as he didn't like wearing his helmet saying it was heavy and looked *geekish*! I decided to take him to our local bike shop and let me choose a helmet that he liked and so would be more likely to actually keep on once out of my sight!
The helmet chosen was a Giro stylus in blue and white. This helmet is recommended for all cyclists including enthusiastic road users and competition riders. It is really well made and very lightweight. It is important that any bike helmet fits well and this one fitted perfectly. It has a small wheel at the back of the helmet allowing it to be adjusted to ensure a perfect, snug fit. There were also 2 foam strips inside the box that can fitted inside the helmet if it needs to be made smaller. The shell of the helmet is made of lightweight polycarbonate.
Not only is this a well made helmet ,but it looks stylish and sporty too. This is an important factor for me as it means it will be worn! The helmet has numerous ventilation slits to help the rider keep a cool head.My son finds it really comfortable to wear and has said he actually forgets he has it on. I paid just over £30 for this helmet and consider it money well spent if it keeps my son safe.
He hasn't fallen off his bike whilst wearing this helmet so I cant comment on how effective it would be in an accident. However the brand has a good reputation so I trust it would offer him protection.
