“ Brand: Raleigh / Type: City Bike / Gender: Women „
I used to love riding a bike as a child and exploring different areas of the countryside but somehow when I became an adult I gave this up apart form odd occasions at places like Center Parcs where I would always enjoy it. Eventually last year I resolved to take it up again. This then led me to the confusing scenario of trying to choose a bike to buy, as there are so many different types out there with a range of features.
One of my main criteria in choosing a bike was that it had to be quite lightweight as I am not that strong at carrying anything heavy, and also small enough to fit me as I am only 5 foot 2 inches. I decided on a hybrid bike as this is suitable for both roads/pavements and easy off road riding. I knew that I was never going to be racing with it or trying to go over any particularly rough terrain.
One of the other requirements that I had was to purchase the bike from a retailer who could assemble it for me. I am sure that I could probably work out how to assemble it eventually but as it is really important that it is safe to use I wanted it to be assembled by a professional. I therefore chose to buy the bike from my local Halfords who offered this service for free.
I chose the Raleigh Pioneer Metro LX Ladies Hybrid Bike as it was made by a well known brand with a reputation for quality. It also had a 15" model, which was exactly right for my height (many of the other bikes did not come in this size.) My bike is a silver and red colour (they update the model colours regularly) and looks really stylish with the Raleigh logo clearly printed on it. Unlike some other models it has a step through design, which makes it very easy to get on and off.
The bike has a number of features. These include:
Tough aluminium frame
6-speed Shimano gears provides flexible riding
Aluminium V-brakes for reliable braking performance
EZ Fire trigger shifters for easier and responsive gear changes
Comfort grips for an enjoyable ride
Front and rear mudguards to protect you from any wheel spray
Chain guard keeps clothing away from oily bike chains
Step-thru frame for easy mounting and dismounting.
Suspension seat post
On using this bike I have found it very easy to use. It is lightweight to move around and easy to get on and off. The saddle and handlebars have been adjusted to just the right height for me, and the gears are easy to use although I always have to remind myself which way is up and down to begin with. I have ridden the bike on the roads and also in some countryside and it has always been comfortable and felt stable and robust.
Overall I am very pleased with the bike. It is just right for me and will probably suit anyone who is a beginner bike rider or wants a bike to use for leisure. It is on sale in Halfords at about £199 and although it is a bit more expensive than some of their own brand models I think it is worth it to get a good quality and safe machine that should last for years.
