Simplehuman Table Top

SIMPLEHUMAN 1.5 Litre BRUSHED STEEL TABLE TOP BIN
I put a lot of thought into the layout of my new kitchen and I think it's working out well so far. It's very nearly finished now. The decorating and tiling is all done and now my husband only has to finish a couple of things like here and there. The flooring was laid ... today and so I went out to shop for some new curtains today and a few more necessary accessories. It's now just a case of finishing up and finding the most convenient places for the new accessories. We have at last reached the best part.
I've kept everything as much as possible to the recommended working triangle for a kitchen, with cooker, sink and fridge freezer all conveniently placed within this. But although mine isn't a massive kitchen and nothing is really very far away, the kitchen bin sits at the end of a run of units. As said, it isn't that far away but even so when wet items or used tea bags need to be disposed of there can be a horrible trail left across the floor on the way to the bin. Of course how much spillage depends on the person disposing of the rubbish and to how much liquid they could be bothered to squeeze out of the tea bags. To be perfectly honest, my family seem to like leaving tea bags in the sink (my new sink!) and aren't able to understand that they can go in the bin. To prevent a build-up of tea stains and a mini mountain of tea bags in my sink I have been looking for a small bin to fit on the windowsill above the sink, which can hold small items for disposal, such as tea bags, bottle tops etc. Anything that can fit comfortably into a small bin just for a short time until the contents of this bin is emptied into the large bin. Most receptacles I've seen are too big or are tiny pedal bins or bright neon plastic containers. I wanted something to fit in with the rest of the kitchen and so, when I found just what I was looking for in The Range recently, I was rather pleased. True, I hadn't really wanted to pay so much for just a small item but seeing as this was exactly what I wanted I decided to buy it.
The bin is manufactured by the company Simple Human. I already own several items by them and so far have been very pleased with my purchases. Not only do they manufacture kitchen goods but bathroom and home-wares in general.
MY OPINION
This tiny bin matches other accessories in my kitchen. I think it looks very good with its body being made of brushed stainless steel and this is even coated to be fingerprint proof. This just has to be a bonus with a steel push top bin.
The lid is a swing type which is what I preferred. It's very easy to pull off and push on. It has a black rim and the top is of brushed steel and is also finger print proof.
The lid to this bin is balanced centrally, meaning it opens easily and will swing back gently to a closed position.
The interior and the base is made from a smooth and easy clean black plastic.
I find the bin very easy to empty as the lid pulls off simply and this isn't at all hard to do, even for me who finds many items difficult to open.
Although the plastic inside, as previously mentioned, can be cleaned easily, I still prefer to use a bag as a liner. The bags I use are cheap lunch bags and freezer bags. I have sometimes even used carrier bags which I have quickly cut down to size. Bags can also be bought specifically for this bin.
Another very useful feature of this bin is that the base is slip proof which really does aid ease of use when using one hand to put rubbish into it at busy times. It fits securely upon my windowsill serving its purpose well; so far my family seem to be able to manage to drop tea bags into this bin. Of course I had to carefully explain its purpose first!
DIMENSIONS
This bin has a 1.5 litre capacity which is just big enough for a day or two of rubbish. In the summer I will empty it more as the sun will shine onto it. Mind you food doesn't go into it so it may be okay; I shall have to see. I can always move it next to the sink.
12.7cm wide
12.7cm deep
18.8cm high
Weight 0.5 kg
USES
Well its obvious use is as a waste bin and although I use it in my kitchen I feel it is also ideal to use in a bedroom or even more so in an office or study as a smart desk top bin.
It would also look good, in my opinion, in a modern bathroom, a utility room or perhaps in a summerhouse. I think it would be suitable for any place really, where only a small amount of rubbish needs to be disposed of for a little while.
In the kitchen this bin only takes up a very small amount of space. I think that it looks good enough to keep on a windowsill, table, shelf or worktop in a kitchen.
From my point of view this bin is ideal for my kitchen and the windowsill above the sink is the perfect spot for it.
*This bin is available in other colours.
* The table top bin has a five year warranty.

Argos Value Stainless Steel Pedal Bin
by cornishchic
The old bin in my bathroom happened to be an old rattan style one that I've had as long as I can remember, it was looking tatty and coming apart so I decided to look for a new one to replace it. After having a browse online I settled on this bin from Argos.
The bin is part of the Argos value range so can only be purchased from ... Argos either in store or online. I reserved mine online and then picked it up from my local store for £5.99.
The bin is quite small, it's a five litre bin so you wouldn't expect anything else. It's approximately 20cm wide and 30cm high so only really appropriate for the bathroom or maybe a bedroom. It is made from stainless steel and has a black bucket placed on the inside that has a handle so you can just pull this out when you need to empty it. The bin also features a pedal that can be used to open the lid, this is the same as most other pedal bins and as soon as you put pressure on the pedal the lid flies open.
I keep my bin under the sink in my main bathroom and it looks good. Although it's from the Argos value range, you wouldn't think it to look at it as it is quite sleek looking. The bin can get a little grubby sometimes, especially being under the sink it usually has water marks on it. I find that a wipe over with a damp cloth leaves the bin looking as good as new and doesn't leave any smears.
The handle is a fab addition to the bucket in the bin as it makes it easier to pull out of the main bin without rubbish flying everywhere. Although it's a small bin, with only me and my daughter living here it takes a lot to fill it and I only have to empty once a fortnight or even longer.
After having the bin for a few months now, I would definitely recommend it. The build quality for the price is fantastic, it looks good, is easy to clean and does the job a bin is supposed to do well. Read the complete review |

Simplehuman Pedal Bin Plastic 40L
by lak11
SIMPLEHUMAN 40L BLACK PLASTIC PEDAL BIN
I had been looking for a new bin for my kitchen for a while but thought I would wait until the kitchen had been re-fitted to purchase. All the units are now up and the worktop in place but there's still quite a lot to do in the way of decorating. My husband downed tools and stopped ... working on this room just before Christmas as we thought it was best to tidy it up and make it look okay for the holiday and then resume work on weekends in January. But we did still buy several accessories for the kitchen and along with these a new bin, which I insisted on buying.
Well a bin isn't really an exciting product to buy is it? But I was determined to purchase something I thought would look good as well as being functional in my 'new' kitchen.
The bin that really took my eye was one by Simplehuman called, Butterfly pedal bin but, even though I shopped around, this came up too expensive. It is priced at £79.48 in B&Q!
I wanted a nice looking bin but wasn't willing to pay as much as that for something merely to put rubbish in. Although, saying that, the bin I did end up buying is still the most I've (until now) paid for a bin at just under forty pounds.
In my kitchen I've chosen some space saving ideas; one that I'm pleased with is a small base unit which when pulled open holds two recycling bins. Unfortunately there wasn't the space for a unit to hold a bin for kitchen waste, other than that which could be recycled.
What I really wanted was:
A bin that was black, grey or sliver in colour but preferably not shiny, as shiny shows up every little mark and I am certainly not a slave to housework; I try to choose low maintenance when possible.
A slimmer bin than my existing one and as the units run differently now the kitchen has been re-fitted. I had just the one good place for the bin. This is at the end of a run of units next to the tumble dryer and near to my French windows. If the bin was too wide then it would be in the way of the doors when both were opened in the summer.
Something that could be opened hygienically and so by ones foot seemed to be the best option.
A medium to large sized bin, with a capacity of around forty litres.
I had a good look on-line first to get a good idea of stockists of decent bins which sold at reasonable paces. This is my usual practice before purchasing; have a look on-line and then go to a store to have a proper look at the item in question and then, either buy from the store or, if a better deal is available from an on-line outlet then I will order from there instead. In this instance I purchased my bin from The Range in Romford, Essex.
I had a good look at bins displayed in The Range and liked a pedal bin manufactured by the company, Simplehuman. I looked to see if I thought it was sturdy and strong enough to cope in my kitchen.
I thought it was better than many similar type bins I had looked at and added to this was the fact that I really liked the way it looked; great for my kitchen.
I purchased the Simplehuman Black Plastic Pedal Bin in a 40 litre size. It was also stocked in grey.
HOW HAS IT 'BIN?'
Now the bin has been tried and tested, opened and closed and moved umpteen times, my thoughts on it are:
It's a good purchase and exactly right for my kitchen. It does fit well in the allocated space and doesn't get in the way. In this space the bin isn't too far away from the sink either, which is good for a kitchen bin.
Appearance wise it is ideal for my kitchen which consists of walnut coloured units with black worktops and accessories in black, silver or granite. The bin is a matt black colour with a little silver on the lid (the lock) and the pedal is also silver.
It holds a lot, having a capacity of 40 litres. It design is deceiving as it actually holds more than it looks capable of. This is due to its streamlined shape as it's a little wider at the front.
The bin can be kept open if the lid is opened to its full extent or will slowly close by itself if left not fully open. There is also a simple slide lock on the lid but I don't use this. If I had a bigger dog or a greedier one then this might prove a useful feature. It could be a useful feature with inquisitive children too. I can't recall needing to lock a bin but can see this could be a useful feature.
Although the bin fits nicely in its given spot it has wheels. These are to the rear of the bin and don't really show when it stands in the kitchen. I don't need the wheels often as the bin mainly stays in its place and has a bin bag placed in it so this is taken out when emptying, however I do think the wheel can be a very useful feature at times and IS definitely useful when the bin is almost full and I need to move it to wash the floor.
The capacity of the bin is just right in my opinion for a home occupied by five people.
An important feature for me is that the pedal mechanism operates easily and well as I have foot strength problems; many household items can prove difficult to use. I find the wide metal pedal opens easily with just a touch of the foot needed to operate it.
I think and hope that this bin will last well. It looks and feels as if it will so, finger crossed!
I use every day black bin bags to line my new bin but bags especially for this bin are available. I find black bin bags are okay and, although they overlap slightly for a secure fit, as they and the bin are black, the overlap doesn't look out of place or unsightly.
