Argos Value Stainless Steel Pedal Bin

As many of you will be aware of, not everyone has the luxury of having their very own bathroom fairy, our house doesn't have one and unlike my children, the task of picking up unwanted rubbish from the bathroom, this task lands firmly in my hands. Due to a fairy shortage, when the toothpaste runs out or the toilet roll has finished, it ... is me that collects the cardboard tube, the empty paste tube, the empty shampoo bottle and throws them away. Due to this, and the real lack of space in our bathroom, I thought buying a bin would benefit the rest of the house, by stopping the horrendous task of having to WALK to another room to use that bin.
Due to our bathroom being small, it couldn't accommodate a large size bin, so this was ideal, it is just under 30cm tall and is quite compact. It fits neatly under our sink and is a suitable size for smaller objects. Obviously I haven't managed to train the family to actually empty this bin into the main rubbish bin but one step at a time people. Have the foot pedal, means they don't even have to bend down to throw bits away they can literally drop rubbish into it, rather than on the floor and by opening it with your foot, they are more likely to begin a game of rubbish basketball, so if they miss, they will pick it up and try again to prove they can get it in!
It is stainless steel so it is easy to wipe clean, the bin inside comes out with no real problems and is easy to either tip into a black bag or I tend to use bin bags in it and then just remove those. This is a good idea with the last of shampoo etc being put in the bin; they can leak and leave muck in the bottom. It is easy enough to clean the bin though. It is a great size and just right for our bathroom, it looks stylish and has actually managed to get the other fairy free members of my household to help fill it which is a blessing in disguise.

Brabantia Built In 10 Litre

We moved house a few months back now and needed to buy some new furniture and other odds and ends. One of the first essential things we needed to get was a new bin, our old kitchen was massive and unfortunately our new kitchen is ridiculously tiny. In fact it is so small that there isn't even any available floor space for a free standing ... bin, so I set out to find a built in bin which could be fitted under the kitchen sink. I took a few hours searching for what I was looking for and reading reviews before settling on the 10 Litre built in black bin from Brabantia which I purchased from Amazon for £14.39 (this included free super saver delivery).
Brabantia began as a family run buisness in 1919, so clearly it has been going sometime. It currently employs 1000 people in approx 85 countries. They sell a wide range of household products such as food storage, food preparation, laundry and bathroom items, there main expertise however is in their wide variety of bins, or as they call it "waste storage". The different types of bins they make are endless, you name it Brabantia makes it. I was particularily impressed by the companies ethos, they have a "mission statement" which speaks of their dislike of the throw away society we live in. They believe too many products are "Short lived, dispensable, consumed in an instant, quickly replaced" and that this is an ongoing, never ending cycle. Brabantia claim that their products are strong, durable and built to last. "Our ambition is simple: to develop solid household products that retain their beauty and performance" Clearly the company stand by their products as the Brabantia bin I bought came with a ten year guarantee.
Having ordered the bin from Amazon it took around 3-4 days to arrive upon my doorstep. It came in the usual large Amazon brown box. The product itself also came boxed but I have long ago recycled it and in all honestly I can't remember to much about how it looked. Amazon claim it comes in Certified Frustration-Free Packaging and I don't recall it been a major effort to open. I do clearly remember emptying the contents and being overall impressed with my purchase. It came with instructions stating that the bin was extremely easy to install along with all the relevant screws. Admittedly I am not too good at DIY (infact I don't even know where the screwdriver is kept, shame on me!), so I left the installation for my partner. It took him less than ten minutes to fit the bin to the inside of the cupboard door under the kitchen sink, he said it was very easy, fuss free and not as annoying as he had anticipated. Those with thin cupboard doors may want to be cautious that none of the screws go all the way through the door as this would be a bit of a nightmare. For those with thin cupboard doors it may be a good idea to screw another peice of wood to the back of the door and then install the bin, or perhaps purchase some smaller screws. Luckily this was not a problem for us and the bin was installed with no problems. Since the bracket has been installed it has remained sturdy and in place. The actual bin is easy attached / detatched from the bracket by simply clicking it in or out of place. Being able to remove the bin from the bracket is brilliant as I can take it out into the garden to clean it on a regular basis. It is made out of plastic and is amazing easily to clean, I just wash it with some bleach and hot water every other week. There is a lift up lid attached to the bracket. The lid is easy to open, it rests on the back of the kitchen cupboard when opened and stays there without slamming shut. One little added feature about the lid is that it has a small ridge at the front, not only does this make lifting the lid ever so easy but it also prevents fingers coming into contact with any mess or germs that may be lurking on the underside of the lid. We have never experience any problems with the bin falling or slipping once positioned correctly in the bracket. I do avoid over filling the bin or putting anything too heavy in it, I don't find this much of a problem and I have simply gotten into the habit of putting anything heavy straight into our wheely bin outside. Keep in mind that this is a 10 litre bin, so it is pretty small. We are a family of four and I need to empty this bin 1-2 times a day. I do find this to be annoying but I put this down to having a small kitchen rather than anything to do with the actual bin, afterall I bought it because I didn't have the space in my kitchen for anything bigger. I try to see the positive side of having to empty the bin quite often anyways, I feel it's more hygenic and prevents nasty smells developing, so that has got to be a plus!
A nice added surprise was that Brabantia kindly threw in a free complimentary pack of their Brabantia bin liners. They fitted wonderfully well in the bin and had handy drawstrings. At £4.40 for a pack of 40 I found them to be a little expensive for bin liners and have not repurchased them since. Unfortunately store plastic carrier bags are just to small to use as bin liners, they slip out of place too easily and can cause a bit of a mess. I have found some asda bin liners that fit really well, although they do not have draw stings they are only a few pence and do the job nicely none the less.
This would be a perfect bin for those with small kitchens, but I feel it would be just as ideal for use in a bathroom or any other small room for that matter, as long as there is somewhere to attach the bracket too of course. If you are short on floor space then this is the bin for you. Clearly I really like this bin and am more than happy with my purchase. I have found it to be strong and durable, infact I can see it lasting for quite sometime to come. Brabantia seem like a brilliant, reliable company and I would have no problems buying other products from them in the future.
