Argos Value Stainless Steel Pedal Bin
by cornishchic The old bin in my bathroom happened to be an old rattan style one that I've had as long as I can remember, it was looking tatty and coming apart so I decided to look for a new one to replace it. After having a browse online I settled on this bin from Argos. The bin is part of the Argos value range so can only be purchased from ... Argos either in store or online. I reserved mine online and then picked it up from my local store for £5.99. The bin is quite small, it's a five litre bin so you wouldn't expect anything else. It's approximately 20cm wide and 30cm high so only really appropriate for the bathroom or maybe a bedroom. It is made from stainless steel and has a black bucket placed on the inside that has a handle so you can just pull this out when you need to empty it. The bin also features a pedal that can be used to open the lid, this is the same as most other pedal bins and as soon as you put pressure on the pedal the lid flies open. I keep my bin under the sink in my main bathroom and it looks good. Although it's from the Argos value range, you wouldn't think it to look at it as it is quite sleek looking. The bin can get a little grubby sometimes, especially being under the sink it usually has water marks on it. I find that a wipe over with a damp cloth leaves the bin looking as good as new and doesn't leave any smears. The handle is a fab addition to the bucket in the bin as it makes it easier to pull out of the main bin without rubbish flying everywhere. Although it's a small bin, with only me and my daughter living here it takes a lot to fill it and I only have to empty once a fortnight or even longer. After having the bin for a few months now, I would definitely recommend it. The build quality for the price is fantastic, it looks good, is easy to clean and does the job a bin is supposed to do well. Read the complete review |

Argos Value Stainless Steel Pedal Bin
by purplekimmy As many of you will be aware of, not everyone has the luxury of having their very own bathroom fairy, our house doesn't have one and unlike my children, the task of picking up unwanted rubbish from the bathroom, this task lands firmly in my hands. Due to a fairy shortage, when the toothpaste runs out or the toilet roll has finished, it ... is me that collects the cardboard tube, the empty paste tube, the empty shampoo bottle and throws them away. Due to this, and the real lack of space in our bathroom, I thought buying a bin would benefit the rest of the house, by stopping the horrendous task of having to WALK to another room to use that bin. Due to our bathroom being small, it couldn't accommodate a large size bin, so this was ideal, it is just under 30cm tall and is quite compact. It fits neatly under our sink and is a suitable size for smaller objects. Obviously I haven't managed to train the family to actually empty this bin into the main rubbish bin but one step at a time people. Have the foot pedal, means they don't even have to bend down to throw bits away they can literally drop rubbish into it, rather than on the floor and by opening it with your foot, they are more likely to begin a game of rubbish basketball, so if they miss, they will pick it up and try again to prove they can get it in! It is stainless steel so it is easy to wipe clean, the bin inside comes out with no real problems and is easy to either tip into a black bag or I tend to use bin bags in it and then just remove those. This is a good idea with the last of shampoo etc being put in the bin; they can leak and leave muck in the bottom. It is easy enough to clean the bin though. It is a great size and just right for our bathroom, it looks stylish and has actually managed to get the other fairy free members of my household to help fill it which is a blessing in disguise. 3 Compartment Recycling Bin
by trayrope In October 2011 my local council finally brought in the last phase of the curb side collection recycling scheme. This was something I was quite excited about as for a long time I had been carting a bin liner of plastic to my local recycling centre each week on foot, because my husband takes the car to work with him, and even though I was ... doing my bit for the environment I did feel a little bit embarrassed being seen with a dustbin liner full of rubbish. So from October onwards I started separating out all my plastic, card, paper, tins, glass, batteries and aerosols in to neat little piles on the work surface each day and then before bed I would nip out to the bins and put them all in there appropriate places. This went on for a few weeks before my husband finally cracked and demanded a new solution for my little recycling piles, so I then started taking each item out to the bin as and when it became empty I did this for a few weeks until the ice cold wet weather really started to irritate me and the fact that I was making at least ten journeys outside each day was starting to annoy everyone in the house. I then decided I needed a neat solution to my recycling problem and started to investigate recycling storage options, with my kitchen being tiny (9ft X 11ft) there was very little room for stacking boxes or three different bins so I looked for something compact and that would fit neatly into my kitchen in pretty much the same place as my bin already was. After scouring the internet for a few days I started to covet a simple human dual dustbin, this bin had two compartments (I needed three) and was exactly the same size as my old bin (45 litre brabantia stainless steel flip top) but the price tag of £89.00 really put me off. I then spotted the 3 compartment recycling bin at Argos for £54.99 this seemed to suit my needs and my budget. The dustbin itself is quite large height 48.5, width 60.5, depth 34cm but still fitted in the space I had got. The bin is made of silver brushed stainless steel with a black plastic top. The dustbin is separated into three compartments, each compartment holds a 15litre rectangular bucket with a metal handle, and each bucket is very easy to lift out of the compartment and simple to empty, just tip it up in to the larger bins outdoors. Each compartment has a separate flip lid operated by a simple peddle at the base of the dustbin; it is like having three small pedal bins joined together. When I first unpacked the bin my husband and I debated whether to make labels for each compartment so as everyone would know what went where, we never got around to making the labels and it only took a few days for the kids to work out what went where. Each peddle has a coloured plastic insert above it, yellow, green and brown, none of these inserts match up to the colours of my dustbins outside and to be honest I think they are a waste of time, the look of the dustbin would have been improved if all the plastic parts had of been black. In the yellow bin I use a swing bin liner as this is what most of the everyday un-recyclable waste goes in. In the green compartment I put washed out plastic, aerosols cans and glass (these are what the larger outdoor bin is allowed in it together) and in the brown compartment I put newspapers and un-waxed card and shredded letters etc. The batteries go in a little bag that I tie to the handle of my larger dustbin outside. So far the dustbin has stood withstood nearly three months of my family, the peddles are hard wearing and a lot sturdier than they look, this was one of my minor concerns because the peddles looked quite flimsy. The dustbin is easy to keep clean, just wipe over with a damp cloth, and a doddle to empty, a minor niggle is the smallness of each individual dustbin the day to day rubbish one needs emptying everyday, the recycling ones need emptying every other day. For me the dustbin has solved the recycling problem and is well suited to a small family (currently five) with a small kitchen who produce a lot of rubbish. Thank you for reading.
