      Reassuringly Well Made

      Brabantia 30L Peddle Bin

We have a few of these bins and although they do ware out eventually, we find them so useful. For some reason we like the cream version and find the surface easy to wipe clean and of course it goes with any decor.
Generally we pay around £55-£65 a time for these bins, but they are worth the extra as they clean up, do not dent as easily as other versions and have a useful plastic inner bin that slides in and out with ease ensuring that the whole is easy to clean and tidy to fit bin liners into and tuck the ends out of sight too. The outer of the bin is made of metal and has a generous coating of quality paint that ensures that they endure plenty of bashes and scrapes before they show any signs of rust or aging.

The foot peddle operation is a metal contraption that travels up the inside rear of the bin and the foot peddle is covered with a black plastic material so that it resembles a car foot peddle, the Brabantia logo is located under the lid on the black coloured plastic hinge cover, with the rest of the operational gubbins being hidden by the plastic inner bin. The peddle operation is reassuringly positive and opens and closes the bin hundreds of times before it goes wrong.

We did try a cheaper alternative bin for a while, but I found the function of having to juggle things like bloody poultry wrappers problematic compared to being able to scoop it all up double handed and using a foot to open a bin. When we bought our first one as far as I know it was the only bin of its size that was operated via a peddle. I did not so much want a big bin as I prefer to get rubbish outside of the house promptly but I needed a bin that was tall enough to stop the long term foster dog we had from putting his foot on the peddle and opening the lid of the smaller bin and having a root around. So a useful compromise was to buy the slimline midsized Brabantia at 30 litres tall peddle bin to replace our 15 litre bin.

The Brabantia 30 litre bin is approximately 66cm tall x overall depth of 39cm and a diameter of 29cm, so it can fit into most kitchens and utility areas with ease.

When bought new the Brabantia bin is supplied with a pack of Brabantia bin liners, which are great but expensive to replace and we have found the Tesco version a cost effective alternative. Although frequently as I empty mine often, I just pop a carrier bag in there to use them up, however that is not always the best option as they are perforated and therefore I need to clean the inner bin more often.

A nice option on the later version is that if you turn the bin upside down the bottom has a grippy disc area that ensures it remains stable on wet floors or slippery surfaces. The peddle operational workings are better covered in the new bin as well. Our older versions eventually where relegated once the peddle operation had packed up due to the steel rod brackets rusting through, probably due to bleach from floor washings.

Brabantia bins are sold with a 10 year guarantee, thus giving added value and confidence that the bin should last well. I'm not convinced that our second version lasted the full ten years, but we did have plenty of use from it before the peddle mechanism packed up and it is now a very useful pet food storage bin. The bins have a good top seal designed to ensure odour protection, however that does mean they are useful as feed storage too.

As mentioned we favour the cream colour option but these are available in a variety of colours to suit any decor.

      Conclusion Price & Availability:

In conclusion I would recommend these bins wholeheartedly and I notice they are sometimes sold used in various colours as well as new via outlets such as John Lewis. As well as independent retailers. RRP is a whopping £77.00, but it is worth looking around for a slightly better price, they are £61.34 at Amazon at the time of writing.

I believe that some things are not worth compromising on and I wholeheartedly recommend these bins.

Thank you for reading and I hope you found it useful
