“ Brand: Sainsbury's / Product Type: Kitchen bin „
I never knew kitchen bins were so expensive until we moved into an unfurnished flat and were forced to buy all the little extras that you really need but you don't think about having to buy before you have your own place. Bins are definitely up there as being a necessity and I had my mind set on a touch opening function and we ending up buying this Sainsbury's 40L Touch Bin in silver.
This is no ordinary bin, it is a great looking bin! The rubbish bin is an oval shape when looking down on it, with dimensions of 65cm height x 41cm width x 31cm depth. Its size is perfect for most kitchens as it can be manoeuvred into corners as well as being able to stand alone. The bin is made up of two pieces, a lid and base. The overall appearance of the bin is black and silver with a sturdy and stylish appearance.
The base unit is made of a stainless steel material that is a mottled silver colour. This makes up about three quarters of the overall bin design and hold the bin bag and kitchen waste. The stainless steel design looks sleek and stylish and is very strong and hardwearing which is exactly what you want when you are spending a fair amount of money on this sort of thing. One drawback as most people will know with stainless steel goods is that they need cleaning with glass/stainless steel cleaner regularly to avoid unsightly smears and smudges. So this is one to avoid if you do not enjoy this extra task!
Inside the base unit is a very handy plastic insert that has a handle on the top for easy removal. This means that you do not have to cart the heavy stainless steel base down to your bin area. Even with this plastic bucket insert there is a huge amount of space in his bin unit with a 40 litre capacity. If I owned a monkey I would definitely keep it in this luxurious and spacious bin!
The bin lid is the best part for me; it has a touch to open mechanism that simply needs one small press for it to open and close. The lid is stainless steel and plastic like the base, with the opening bit nearly all reinforced plastic and oval shaped. The lid is plenty big enough to allow large items to go into the bin without getting crumbs on the edges or items dropping out or missing it completely. The touch to open is great for when you have your hands full.
There are plenty of positives with this bin, but there are also a few negatives I have found, firstly the price, at £45 this is not cheap! I found that on looking at bins this was a fairly standard price for a touch lid function. Another drawback is that the lid sometimes doesn't shut first time, it can miss the catch and so you have to re-close it. With the lid having some springs and mechanisms crumbs can sometimes get stuck in them and it is very awkward to clean in the sink because of the size.
This bin was purchased from Sainsburys for £45 and there is often a delivery cost unless you can find a code or a weekend offer. It is stylish and functional, but what I really like to do with it is play with the touch lid!
This Sainsbury's 40L Touch Bin is too good to hide away! One push on the lid will open and close it while its stainless steel and plastic body is easy to wipe clean.
