“ Brand: Simplehuman / Product Type: Bin Liner „
It has taken me at least a year to find this bin, and summon up the courage to part with the (whispered) £90 it costs, the price being an awful lot of money to pay for a bin in my opinion, and far more than I wanted to pay at the start of my search for a bin.
The bin and I have been together for a little while now and actually, despite it being really sad to like a bin, I really like this bin, and there are a few reasons for this. Firstly there is a lot that was wrong with my previous bin which I hated with a vengeance, it was a brabantia, which I am not reviewing here, but suffice to say it didn't do the job, wore badly, bits fell off it and getting the bag out of the bin was a daily tussle. Not good. I inherited a new kitchen a year and a half ago, and in this kitchen there was no clear place for this round pedal bin to go, so it just lurked in my kitchen looking awful and failing to do what a bin should do - swallow rubbish efficiently.
Enter this little corner bin. Firstly it is 38 litres, so a lot of bin. It fits snugly in a corner that was perfect for a bin this shape and not for a round bin. Furthermore it looks very nice - the brushed steel is of a good quality as you would expect frankly for this price. There are rubber feet that ensure the bin stays put where you put it, and the movement on the actual pedal is good.
Simplehuman are a company that design products with that little "makes life easier" twist - and this bin does not disappoint in this either. I got sadly excited when I saw that there was a little switch if you wanted to keep the lid open without your foot on the pedal. In normal use the lid drops slowly and satisfyingly to a close, and the bag is properly hidden. There is a little void in the inner bin if you wish to tuck the bag in some more - it is this kind of detail which make simplehuman products great.
As for the bag change - easy. There are two inner handles to lift out the inner bin, sunk into the bin itself. These is a complete pleasure after the brabantia experience (a bucket handle which always snagged on the bin liner for me). The liner is easily lifted out and it is easy to keep the whole thing clean.
So far the bin is wearing well and looking good. I have discovered that the branded bin bags can be purchased for about £15 for 100 online, which seems fair. The bags are of good quality and don't snap at the pull (sorry brabantia but another gripe I had with you).
The bin has a 10 year guarantee, and according to the blurb on the box has been designed "to last years" - I suspect it will.
So the bin and I are happy together, and I would give it 5 stars or more if I could if only I could get over the price, however for something that gets daily use and actually does the job well perhaps it is worth paying that little bit extra.
The stainless steel corner bin tucks neatly into corners for maximum space efficiency. This simplehuman bin has an off-set lid designed to open without hitting the wall. It also features the smartbucket bin liner change system to eliminate messy overhang, and lid shox technology to give the lid a slow, quiet close.
